For us we wanted a school that understands our DS temperaments, he is highly sensitive, suffered from social anxiety, so picky with food & very dependant when it comes to self care. He is very intelligent & advanced for his age. I wasn't looking for a school with rigid rules & too focused on academics. IB curriculum looked good for my kid's personality. We had limited choices as we stay in Sharjah, we went to all schools in Sharjah, then we chose to send him to Ajman Academy. My kid is only 4, they worked really hard at school with us on my kid's temperaments, now he is a different child, very outgoing, loves kids, independent & cheerful. Everyone at school knows us. They are very caring & understanding. We are allowed to talk to his teachers without appointment unlike many other schools, we are always involved in activities & there are always workshops for parents. Travelling for 40 mins to reach school is not an issue for us, fee is reasonable compared to schools in Dubai.

Labour ban is totally different than immigration ban, immigration ban is the same for employees & domestic helpers. What's her nationality? If she's from the Philippines you can't recruit her directly if she goes back to her country , you have to go through a maid's agency or to arrange for a tourist visa to get her back here. I honestly don't think it worth the hassle. & if I were her employer I wouldn't be happy with her response to a job offer after few months of working for me, I'd send her back to her country rather than giving her a transfer. I wouldn't want my employees to think it is "ok" to find another employer while working for me before their contract expire, those maids talk among themselves about those stuff, if I give a transfer for 1, I should be open to others asking for the same.

As per law, she gets 1 salary after 1 year of service, she is not entitled for her leave salary until the end of her service year if she decides not to travel. So for now if she decides not to travel, you pay her her salary only, once her visa is due for renewal & she decides not to go on vacation she can get her ticket allowance & an extra 1 month salary. As you renewed her visa 3 months back, she is not entitled for anything before she completes 11 months of service. It is a limited contract renewed every year

Hair dressers are cheap in sharjah loool. I paid 400 for highlights, full colour stripping & full hair colour, I tipped 40 (10%), 50 for hair cut i tip 20, I pay 20 for eye brows threading I tip 10, & 10 for the girl who washes my hair. I pay 35 for eyebrows threadin at tips & toes but I still tip 10. 10 for mani, 10 for pedi, 30 for massage/ facial as I use the entertainer vouchers. But if I'm paying loads for a hair cut I won't tip. I know the hairdresser well, she's an Arab with 2 kids, she's paid around 2500 so she needs the extras.

I'd tell the kid's parent to deal with it, no one has the right to slap a kid on the face even his parents! A tap on the hand or bum is the max for physical discipline IMO. I wouldn't dream of smacking someone else's kid (not even mine but that is a different issue) , I tell my nephew & cousins off when they misbehave but I wouldn't smack to discipline regardless of the reason, I'm fine when my aunt, mum or SIL discipline my son but there are limits & they don't cross those limits My parents used to smack us when we were kids under extreme circumstances, but never ever on the face, we grew up fine & we didn't need therapy ;) , I don't judge those who smack their kids, but slapping or hitting on the face is a different story

I'm sorry but I think you are over reacting, take her to the toilet/ potty every 1 hour, don't wait until she asks, my kid is 4.5 yrs & I still have to remind him to use the toilet. Use a reward/ stickers chart, praise her everytime she uses the potty, reassure her that accidents are ok but next time it makes mummy happy if she pees in the potty. Make up a potty song, read to her some potty training books there are loads. I didn't potty train my son, I followed his lead, at 3.2 yrs he was out of nappies full time , I took a "lazy" approach, I introduced the toilet with pull ups on full time, he didn't get distressed about the whole potty training thing, when we took off the nappies he didn't have any accidents as he was ready. If you think there is something wrong take her to a GP for a urine test. But taking her to psychologist is extreme at her age. Those phases might be going on during growth spurts, she might be learning new skills that are distracting her from asking to use the toilet. A friend of mine kept on trying to potty train her daughter before she turned 2, but her daughter kept on going through those phases of wetting & soiling herself until she was 3.5 yrs, the girl was NOT ready when she was younger Good luck

Local agency is the way to go about this. Completely agree with aevans in Dubai I always go through agencies but I had my share of lies & made up stories. If you go through agency, be ware of "take me back to the agency, I don't like it here", you have the right to change her once during the 1st 3 months for a valid reason but the second time you will have to pay 50% of the agency fee again. 2 yrs back when I refused to give our maid 2 days off instead of 1 she reported us saying that we dont feed her & we let her work 15 hrs per day without rest, so I sent her back to the agency who had a replacement employer on spot , when we finally had a replacement after 2 months, she got upset when I asked her nicely to clean her own room & wash her bed sheets at least once a week, she eneded up crying & asked us to take her back to the agency. I was firm & I told her clearly that I dont return maids to agencies & I don't care about the 10K I paid, if she wants to leave I'm happy to send her back to her home with a ban as she didnt fulfill her agreement, this happened 2 weeks after she joined. I gave her 2 days to think about it, her room is in the middle of the house, it is not acceptable for us to have a smelly disgusting room in our place, after 2 days she apologised & told us she was going to stay. If you go through agency be ware of those scenarios, agencies dont care about clients who already paid the fee, they will happily take the majd back as they always have other clients who are ready to pay immediately for a maid available on spot.

JW marriot Deira , 3 restaurants & kids area. You can also find vouchers in the entertainer Dubaj for the market place for the Friday brunch. I tried many brunches but this is the best in terms of food quality loads of seafood, good variety & price is reasonable. I also like rotana the one close to the airport , there is a play area for kids.

We have a Mercedes 2005 2 door clk covered through RSA & the premium is not high given that it's considered a sports car but your excess will be higher than a "normal" car Yeah I know, it is 1000. We paid 1950 for the premium & the value of the car is around 70,000 I guess, with road assistance & Omar coverage. But we're been with them since 2008. & we have another 2 cars insured by them. edited by wickedangel_78 on 06/05/2014 thats quite a high excess, we had a mustang which had a 750 excess normal is like 300 and we have been with axa since 1996 and had many many cars and other stuff with them. It is, but I can't change companies for an old sports car, it is difficult to find an insurance company for it. I have a car insured by AXA, I love their premium it includes rent a car, & they offered me a 3rd year agency repair without increasing the premium much in addition to Oman coverage, road assistance & excess of 250 for a 4WD

Are you coming back before it expires? I travelled several times to home town with a visa that is expiring in a month or less, but I'm not sure about the procedure if you are travelling somewhere else other than home town. You can renew your visa before it expires, my dad renewed his visa few weeks back, it will not expire until the 15th of this month but he's travelling on the 11th of this month.

You should cancel it immediately or you'll have to pay a fine (I think it's 20 per day but not sure) & it will be counted as part of the grace period anyway, so cancel it, she can stay for a month after cancellation.

Yup she needs to go back for a medical in her country, it is a requirement for some nationalities. You can't process her visa unless she leave the country anyway, if bringing her back from her country is not an issue (with some nationalities you can't hire them directly if they are in their hometown & you need to go through a maids agency) , then send her back to do the medical, ask her to send you a copy, then go to immigration, they will advise you on the needed document to process the visa. If you request an urgent visa you get it the same day or next day. The documents are sponsor passport copy, original house lease contract, maid's passport copy, maid's photos, salary certificate for employees. For investor they need copy of trade license, company bank statement, personal bank statement. I'm not sure if they ask for a bank statement for employees as we're self employed.

I thought this thread was for fun? We are all not perfect & all what I listed here I complain about them openly at home & to his face. He jokingly complains about me & my attitude every time my mum visits, I don't take it seriously. I know our relationship is solid & being irritated over tahini & tomato paste doesn't mean we should get a divorce. I know a pp mentioned more serious issues in her relationship but I guess she needed a rant, we all go through those moments, & it's easier to list what's irritating us to strangers over the net rather than talking about them IRL. Any advise & some empathy won't hurt. If you don't like what's written read it & move on. I enjoyed all posts & felt bad for those who are having serious issues with their husbands. OP thanks for posting this thread, Friday is always stressful, my kid woke up with a temp & I had a mc recently, I needed a space to rant & to have some fun. Bouncy so sorry for your loss Hun xx

I was told today that they are changing the rules regarding sponsoring dependants as in family members, earlier the salary was a min of 7000, but they are going to raise it to 15,000 so this is also something your husband needs to check with his company.

Al Barsha The distance between Barsha and Sharjah is a minimum of 50 km. The commute out of Sharjah in the mornings and into Sharjah in the evenings is horrible. It may take him anywhere between 1 and 2 hours twice a day. If you're looking at affordable housing you're better of looking at appartments in silicon oasis. But you will need a car as I don't think there's public transport between Silicon Oasis and Barsha. I don't know about schools there, maybe others can advice. Agree with this. I have no idea about the cost of living close to that area, others might be able to help

They changed the rules for starting school this year. For the year 2014-2015 the kid should turn 4 before 31st December 2014. You need to explore more about this, & I guess now it's too late to register her in a school most schools have long waiting lists & registration is closed. but you can go for a nursery with FS1/ KG1. I'm not saying you will not find A job, you might find a job immediately. I don't like rushing into things, it seems that you made up your mind regarding coming here, which is the 1st step, now figure out where you're going to stay them plan accordingly. Once you're done with this you can think about schools.

Did you give him dinner before he went to sleep, did he poop today (I don't ask anyone about their bowl movement yuk! ) & the kid is 4 yrs not 4 months Going out without his mobile, going to the supermarket without telling me, buying tahini & tomato paste everytime he goes to the supermarket.

1st make up your mind where you are going to stay before thinking about all this, you have a whole year before your kid goes officially to school, you might work in a school & have your kid with you a win win situation. Your kid is not even 3! She would benefit from having you around during the 1st few months as it will be all new for her away from familiar faces. Before deciding to live in sharjah check the location of your husband's work, then plan accordingly. The 1st thing I'd look for is accommodation in your case, you will need to furnish it & so on. It is still too early to worry about schools, daycare & so on. I don't even see a point of looking at schools or nurseries if you don't even know where you're going to live. Traffic is killing here, for a nursery it is better if you find a place close to your house, kids get sick a lot during the 1st year of school. Try to breath & stop worrying about all those stuff at this stage. Good luck!

Thanks for this. The situation is that the employee is under probation so does the company pay for these charges to get him out the country and can the enforce it? I know there is a 30 day time limit for someone to get a new visa but does the company keep the passport during this time or do they have the right to remove the employee as they see fit? TIA It depends on the company, some are not very nice & they insist on sending the employee back home & issue a ban. They have the right to keep the passport until he finds a new job/ sponsor It is different from one company to another but unfortunately in those situation the employer has the upper hand

Thank you Sage & Onion, I shall look into it as I'm put off having a maid for now! I went home last night and found the contract and yes it's only one year, so we aren't therefore going to kick up too much of a fuss as she will have done 11 out of the 12 contracted months. Wicked Angel, thank you for the advice, forgive me as I am so green with this, where do you get your deposit back from, Immigration? We will pay for her one way flight so we know she is on the plane! :) You take her to the airport, they will usually give you a paper or a slip once she exits (I don't remember it was 3 yrs back when we cancelled out maid's visa), you take the slip to the immigration, they deduct a processing fee (around 50-75?) then they will reimburse the remaining amount, but no one can get the money other than her sponsor Eta: make sure to go inside with her to make sure she left :) Sorry I don't trust maids in those issues edited by wickedangel_78 on 01/05/2014

Thanks so much for explaining. So if we live in Dubai , then also the fees for prenursery in a good school will be around 2000 ? What about school transportation ? Someone said it is 3000 AED per month but I di not find this information on the net ? If I will also work, then do te schools have day care facility to keep my daughter till I return from work I don't think you can find big options for after school daycare in sharjah or dubai, some nurseries are open until 5 pm but they are limited & fee is very high. Transportation is 3000-8000 per year but it depends on the area & distance between home and school. Expat working mums with kids usually to for a live in maid / nanny which is another added huge cost & hassle
