Hi Claudia, Smart casual , but really they are not looking at you..... Make sure he has his shouders covered too !!! My husband came on his own , was shown a lovely villa, but was not shown any school. Its so diffcult because you cannot choose a school until you have been offered a position and and know exactly where you will be housed. We were in temporary acc for nearly 6 months. It was a lovely brand new 2 bedroomed appt , but with 3 teenage boys it was a bit of a squeeze.. I think you need not worry until he has afirm job offer. Best of luck.

Paradise beach club in Mirissa, lovely place right on the beach, not a luxury hotel but really good , i have been there 3 times. If you call ask to speak to Upal, his English is not too bad. Royal river resort is another brilliant place to stay, only 4 rooms built over a rapid river, a natural rock pool, great service. Its well away from the norm tourist hotels and is on the river where they filmed bridge over the river kwai. Chayya citadel in Kandy is nice, great location and far better than the 5* hotel in Kandy. Thraproban in Unawatuna is right on the beach , very nice bedrooms and serves some fantastic food. We did stay at lots of other hotels that i would definitely not recommend !! I lived in SL for a while hence the reason we visited so many of the beaten track places !

We have a lemon tree and its grows really well and produces lots of small lemons. I think the gardener chap bought it at the garden center by the sewage works.

I love the no nonsense of Ravis in Satwa. This time of year you can sit outside . Food is great and cheap. We also went to an Indian restaurant in the Wafi. Very nice food and it serves alcohol, for 3 of us and 1 bottle of wine and a few soft drinks, nearly 600 dhs...... Hmmm i know which restaurant i prefer !!

OMG.... An extraction should always be the last resort once everything else has failed. If your wisdom teeth are impacted and giving you problems , your dentist may suggest removal but, you should be aware that an extraction is not always easy..... Thats why lots of people have them out in hospital !

We went earlier this year, stayed 1 night at the Golden Tulip, nice rooms, fantastic seafood BBQ nice couple of bottles of wine. Second night we stayed at the Khasab hotel......hmmmmm well. Its really basic. We had the family room, but it was really grotty and basic. Pool was dirty and lots of missing tiles. There is a small restuarant and the food was actually not too bad. Alcohol is not permitted. My son left his ipad charger in the room, and they wouldnt even send it back to us ! Not impressed at all !

It really depends if you are travelling with children and how old they are. We lived there for a while and we found that sometimes even though its actually only a short distance to visit the attractions the journey takes hours and hours and hours because of the roads. There is now a new road from Colombo down to the south. We stayed in Mirissa. Loved it. Look at. Paradise beach club. Its far from a club as we would know it, but you can stay in a small cottage, kids upstairs and you diwnstairs. Food , service and prices are great. Another fantastic place is in Kithugala. I cant remember the name as yet ( let me know if your interested ) it has 4 rooms and is built high in the tea plantations above the water rapids. We stayed there twice. Next day we did the white water rafting. Its where they filmed the bridge over the river Kwai. Not sure if you can find these out of the way places on the internet. Try looking at www.go-lanka.com Happy to give more info if you would like.

Yes the insurance is usually fantastic, but not in my case, i will have to pay the full cost of the op and treatment. Can anyone get a health card or is it limited to maids etc ! Thanks

Is the cost of treatment at Latifa hospital much less than at other hospitals , health card or not ? I cant imagine how much the op or treatment would be at City or the Amerian hospital ? Thanks.

I have a great orthodontist for my child. Dr Sirajeen. Opposite the Karama fish market. 04.3345955 I think he will work out being about 1/3 of the price of the original orthodontist i was referred to ! Yes, you dont have glossy magazines and coffee while you wait, but the treatment so far has been very good. Once inside the surgery its spotlessly clean and the orthodontist and his nurse are super efficient. Not many expats go there and it is not linked to any health insurances, but the prices are very reasonable. Good luck.

I need to have some treatment for a large septatious ovarian cyst. My medical insurance will not pay for the treatment because it is pre-existing ! Does anyone know if anyone can use the government hospitals, like Latifa hospital without having a health card ? I have seen that Latifa Hospital has a good gyn & obs department. Would I need a referral or could I just turn up as an emergency patient if needed ? Thank you .
