DH has asked to me ask you lovely ladies whether the Al Jazeera cards can be put in to either the OSN box or the Abu Dhabi Sports box. Really hoping we do not have to go and buy another decoder. TIA x

If I remember right, I just logged on to internet banking and their was a link there saying something like Order your Key Card. Took seconds to do and it was delivered to me within 5 days of ordering. It doesn't come up now on my account (assuming as I have already ordered it). Sorry can't be more precise edited by wiggywig on 22/05/2012

Nescafe espresso coffee (the one in the green lidded jar), Golden Circle Beetroot, Cheezles, Cinkers and Jaffas! You can buy Jaffas at the Garden Centre, SZR. My Aussie friend was so excited that she bought 5 packets yesterday :)

I have the Gaggia Titanium and love it. You can adjust the bean grinder to your taste and I just love the smell! It also has a neat little space ontop to store (and heat!) your cups. Voila - a mini coffee shop in my kitchen! I was just looking at the Gaggia ones on the internet. They seem fantastic. There are so many makes and designs on the market that it is just so hard to choose. Which brand do I choose? edited by wiggywig on 08/05/2012

Oh - just a thought - the other thing you need to look at is the space under the espresso outlet. Does it fit a full sized cappucino cup or only a demitasse/espresso cup? Maybe take a cup with you. I think our Rancilio had only about 9cms under the outlet so we had problems finding decent sized coffee cups that would fit underneath as most of the cappucino cups were just a fraction too tall. A lot of the machines only have a small space under the outlet. Very annoying having to put your espresso into a small cup then pour it into a large one if you want a latte or cappucino. All the crema will stick to the side of the small cup and you will lose a lot of the richness of the flavour. Hadn't thought of that. I do have a special cup I use for my lattes (I know very sad) lol

Cool! Sounds like you and I are on the same page regarding the fresh beans (which should be no older than 3 days past roasting for the best crema - we will generally chuck ours out after 10 - 14 days past roasting max as they get too "dry"). Would you mind popping back and telling us what you find out during your research? Will be very interested in how you find the machines and their coffee. Good luck!!! ETA: Thanks for the directions Wiggywig! edited by Buy me a Pony on 08/05/2012 Will Do, if I am not too high on caffeine that is :)

I'm sure the Nespresso is good for convenience, but I don't see how it can deliver the crema that freshly ground beans will bring. And can you finesse the coffee? I mean don't you just push a button and it all happens for you? Our coffee machine has recently died and after slumming it for a couple of months with the local coffee from a chain coffee shop I can't take it anymore. I am wasting money taking a sip of their coffee to find the flavour thin, bitter, the milk burnt and just throwing the cup out in disgust. It is a travesty! Am now begging DH to get another machine! So watching this thread with interest. Our first machine was a Krups - it had an aluminum boiler so it didn't retain the heat consistently, and not high enough pressure to create a genuine espresso. Perhaps there are better models these days as that was 10 years ago. You need a brass boiler and enough pressure to extract the crema. So when you go looking at machines ask what the boiler is made of... We then graduated to a Rancilio which made a great cup of coffee but only had one boiler, so if you were making multiple cups, you'd have to do all the espresso first then let it build up enough pressure to froth the milk. The Rancilio grinder is good though. This time I think we will need to get a double boiler (if it's not too expensive), although we don't entertain much over here so maybe that's a moot point. Can anyone tell me where this Infiniti Garage is? Might go in and check the Lavazza machines. TheMrs are you sure that's 399 AED for their cheapest machine not 3,999? I don't see how you could get the proper mechanics of an espresso machine made and sold with a decent margin for 399AED???? If you are travelling from Dubai to Abu Dhabi on Sheikh Zayed Road, between junction 2 (Safa Park) and junction 3 (Al Manara) there is an exit Umm Al Sheif Road. Take this exit at the small roundabout take 3 turn off head up the slip road (you will be running adjacent to SZ Road. At the very top of this road you will see Infiniti garage on your right. The Lavazza show room is in the building next door. Not sure where to park though. Might just see you there x

Thanks ladies, so much information. I do personally like using coffee beans, and the smell is amazing so will find it hard to move to pods. As you can go into some of these places and try out the coffee, I might make that my mission for next week. Looks like free coffee for me next week x

What about the nespresso. I have one and I love it. You can buy the pods in moe or Dubai mall or they will deliver. Not sure about the pod type, was really interested in the ones that grind the coffee beans. Just out of interest how much is the machines and pods?

Just called up our paediatrician. he says if there is no redness and complaint then no need to worry. And he advised to try eye drops [b'>Gentamicin[/b'> for 3 days. any comments? I personally wouldn't give eye drops to my child without a consultation first.

I think you should get her checked out. When my DS was 3 he did the blinking thing and we kept asking him about it, obviously he didn't know. We spoke to his teacher and she recommended just to stop mentioning it and not put any emphasis on it and eventually it would stop. It did. The same DS when 5 went through a stammering phase, again we ignored it and went away in time. My DS is now 12 and from time to time does these things but after a week of ignoring, they go away. Certain children have these little quirks. Personally my DS does this when he is a little stressed. Saying this though, for your ease of mind, I would still get her checked out. Hacking happens, but I don't know that it's all that much more common in the US than in other parts of the world. I only know one person that it happened to -- my daughter -- and it was fixed w/in 24 hours. She suspects it was 'skimmed' at a restaurant, but there's no way to know for sure. You can always monitor any and all transactions online. Just happened to stumble on this a few minutes ago, maybe it will be helpful: The Scam: A “skimmer” is a small, unobtrusive device that reads the information on a credit or debit card’s magnetic strip. In some cases, crooks install them in gas pumps or at ATMs, turning a routine transaction into an assault on your privacy. Skimming can also occur in retail situations, often restaurants, where a server will swipe your card through a handheld skimmer before running it through the establishment’s legitimate card reader. With the stolen data, identity thieves manufacture fake credit cards. Avoid It By: Don’t swipe your card at any machine that looks tampered with or otherwise sketchy. If you’re eating out and are concerned about the risk of skimming by waitstaff, bring your card up to the register so it doesn’t leave your sight. Read more: http://moneyland.time.com/2012/04/17/10-ways-youre-going-to-get-your-identity-stolen/?iid=pf-article-mostpop1#4-skimming#ixzz1u6FM9t2p Thanks, very interesting

You will get a very bad rate buying dollars at the airport if you do take some dollars Best to buy them in town at any of the malls And take more than 1 credit card Our UAE credit card got hacked when in the US, and it became obsolete because we couldnt get the replacement card while there (obviously) Thanks Arch. This is one of the reasons why I was asking the question, as I have heard about card hacking in the USA is quite high.

You could make a game out of it with the twins. By saying something like "who can find something beginning with B and put it away in the box" Do this for about 10 mins (if you can get them to last that long), keep doing this throughout the day and there you go a tidy apartment. Worth a go I think. x

Don't feel guilty about them entertaining themselves. It actually does them good sometimes to do that. Don't worry about the mess ( it is only toys and they will quickly be cleared away) just do what you have to do to get through the next couple of days. I have twin boys although they are nearly 12 and at times like this is a great to have twins as they do amuse each other. If they need to be put in front of the TV all day, that's fine, one day of telly is not going to hurt them x Thanks WW, I never knew you had twins too!! another surviver (LOL). i cant stand the place being in a mess though, and just paid a maid to come in two days ago to clean up, cant justify spending that money again - it's been scarce till very recently due to unemployment. IGNORE THE MESS. Just to let you know it does get so much easier the older they get. Again IGNORE THE MESS, have a cup of tea, put a DVD on that they both enjoy and if possible sit still with (haha) and watch it with them. xx

Very very best of luck to you x 12 years ago there wasn't that many clinics to choose from. Everyone has different experiences. Hi Scruffles. I went through something very similar about a year ago. Had a mammagram (showed something), ultrasound (still showed something) even went for an MRI. I was advised to have a core biopsy done. I had no hesitation in having the biopsy done. As far I am aware this is the only thing that can tell you one way or another. It was one of the most terrifying time of my life. Biopsy came back clear, but have been going back for 3 monthly checks. I have another mammagram and u/s on Thursday, this will hopefully give me the all clear (after 1 year). If they are advising you to do the biopsy i would definitely go ahead with it. Please try and stay positive and fingers crossed for you. Just remember in most cases everything is good and if it is not hopefully you would have caught it early. Big hugs to you xx

I had twins through IVF and can remember how excited we were at the 6 wk scan that there were 2 in there. Throughout my pregnancy, I was excited, then scared, excited, worried, in fact probably every single emotion you could think of. At 37 wks was taken in to deliver, pure relief that i had got to 37 weeks. Pure fear when I got them home. What do I do with 2 of them. You work it out, plod along, make mistakes, but you watch these 2 shining lights grow and grow and then you think YES how amazing was that. Good luck x

As she is entitled to paid leave, pay her March salary and the 3 weeks that she is off for in April, then at the end of April give her the week she is owing. This system has always worked for me and my maid and it at least gives her a little money for May. edited by wiggywig on 25/03/2012 But that's the point! She's NOT entitled to paid leave YET!
