Oooh no, s3x tapes, how embarrassing! I'd quite like to be my friend. She seems to have life pretty much sewn up. Dunno hey, if she had a figure like mine then I could understand why it would be embarrassing, but at least all her bits are still in the right places and don't have richter-scale measuring capabilities....

They need to: 1 - thoroughly clean the drip tray and make sure no blockage in the pipe 2 - backflush the machine (if it doesn't have non-return valves) 3 - chemically flush the coils And as other posters have said, check where the intake air is that it isn't close to the sewage vent pipe. Also, check that nothing died in the ducts (yikes I know, but it does happen). Hth :)

Many people use fondant because it is easier and less time consuming than to cover the cake with a beautiful smooth coat of buttercream icing. Getting that buttercream perfectly smooth and divot free takes a lot of time and is a real skill. You can make your own fondant but many stores and companies buy fondant which are cheap and taste bad. I have a catering business here in Paris (I am moving to Dubai in August) and import fondant because I want to make a quality product but I use it mostly for decorations, not to cover the cake. I make more fondant covered cakes for adult parties since they are more adept at removing the layer of fondant if they don't like it. If you are ever buying a cake it is important to ask where the fondant comes from. Wilton fondant is terrible but there are brands like Satin Ice which are delicious. Cakes with higher quality fondant or that use good quality fondant in their decorations will be priced accordingly. Many children do not like fondant as it can be chewy so it is better to make sure your cake, if you order one, is just covered with buttercream. Let's hear it for delicious cake!! Boy are you going to luuuuurve Dubai.... Paris: "Hmmm, should I buy the A Brand, B brand, C Brand, D Brand or maybe I should try one of these four new ones they have here that I havent used before...Hmmm..." Dubai: "Feck! Thats Lulu, Carrefour, Geant and Spinneys Ive tried and none of them have fondant. Not rolled, not packet, nada. And that stuff Tavola sells that is so sticky you can put pictures up with it, I wonder if they have any left... Maybe nobody would mind if I used marzipan... Hmmm... Oh no, wait, cant do that either cause they only have yellow marzipan.... I guess it will have to be buttercream. No wait, there is only the imported [3 times the price of the SIS one'> icing sugar available. And what would you know, theyve only got 4 boxes left. Best I get them all whilst theyre here!" I think youre also going to have a fun time getting used to working with fondant etc in 100% humidity etc. Take cake from house to car in mid summer - approximately 20 steps... "So you see this here red puddle? Well, it used to be a rose." :D I make cakes with both buttercream and fondant, and just wanted to say that whilst covering cakes is one thing, for those of us that work on 3D cakes, it isnt an option. So, if youre looking for 2D or "decorated cakes", buttercream is fine, but the sculpted cakes is pretty much fondant... Having said that, I always use a layer of buttercream between the fondant and the cake, so you really can have your cake and eat it!!! Dont want fondant? Pull it off and only eat the buttercream then! PS for the record, Im one of the non-fondant-eaters! But I do also recognise that each to their own and when I get a request for a fondant cake, I dont try to change peoples minds... :)

Hi habibti :) Isn't it funny how there are so many posters on here who I have never met, but who have been the voice of friendship, wisdom, comfort or sympathy over the years - ladies who don't know me, but who were willing to give of their time and advice so freely at some pretty low points in my time here. It does restore your faith that there are still genuinely good people out there :) .... Of course there's also the psychos! :D

Thanks Elle for the info - useful to know. Agree the easiest is just to transfer into her name. I did chuckle though as the first time I read the post title, I read "selling husbands while he is away on business" and a fleeting thought was - who would willingly buy one! :D

Im pretty sure you just need a copy of his passport and a letter from him authorising you to make the sale on his behalf. In the authorisation letter though it needs to say his passport number and full name as well as your passport number and full name, and the details of the car. Something like this - "I JOE BLOGGS holding British Passport number 12345678 authorise my wife JANE BLOGGS holding British Passport number 87654321 to sell my 1988 RED FORD EXPLORER registration DUBAI F67890 on my behalf. Please accept this letter as authorisation to carry out the sale of the car and all subsequent transfers of ownership, cancellation of insurance and any other requirements as deemed necessary to conclude the transaction. Should you require any verbal verification, I can be contacted on 0097150 2345678. Yours sincerely Joe Bloggs" Its worth getting a couple of the above letter printed as you'll probably have to give one to the new owner, one to the RTA when doing transfer and one to the insurance company etc etc. I would also keep my original passport handy in case RTA or the likes wants to see it. Just been through similar with cancelling DEWA, Etisalat etc on our previous apartment and my husband not being here, but all was in his name. Hope the above helps :D. ETA obviously he will need to actually sign the letter and you'll need the originals :D edited by wikkid on 29/04/2012

Not that Im advocating for the Kenwood machine (tongue in cheek) but if you are going to be making heavy things such as bread doughs, its very important to get a machine that has a powerful motor - making dough really does take it out on the motor and if it isnt up to scratch then youre going to find yourself regularly getting the motor rewound/replaced...

So happy to hear things came right for you guys - I havent been on the boards for a while, but I remember you were struggling from a while ago. Even if youre both commuting quite a distance, the main thing is that at least you feel you are getting a handle on your lives again which is a really nice big positive step in the right direction! Congratulations and I hope its a smooth road ahead for you guys x Edited cause I seem to have lost the ability to type coherently!!! edited by wikkid on 28/04/2012

What a pity elle that I didnt know you were going as I had to buy a washing machine and stove just a couple of weeks ago... :( May be worth thinking what you would accept for everything together and also put an ad on dubizzle for the whole lot as a single purchase maybe? Might be worth your sanity :D

Ahhh, Kenwood hands down for me! I love mine so much santa brought a friend for my one for christmas so I now have one in Muscat and one here!!! The motor on the kenwood is very powerful, and trust me when I say I've been pretty hard on mine - from making cakes, biscuit dough, bread to chopping onions, making sausages and even the odd jug of strawberry daiquiris! My Dubai mixer has been going for the last 6.5 years with not even one glitch! Jashanmal are the official suppliers for Kenwood and I think they can order for you if you go in with a specific model etc. @ Loube - did you adjust the K beater when you got it? You get a little spanner type thing with the mixer and you use this to lower the level of the K beater so it just skims the bottom of the bowl. No need to scrape the bottom with a spatula etc if it is set at the right level :)

Green-ish - hows it going back home? Saw your post about the horse, yes, excited and hoping that all goes through ok! Desperately need to get the exercise back in swing, so getting back into riding would be a double bonus :) RSF - made myself a hardcopy cake photo album the other day and managed to actually do a "footie" section! Hope all is going well :D

I did... I was very naughty.... why for fun! My offence, who knows :) So how come you're back in DXB wikkid? To cut a very long story very short, DH has been offered a great opportunity in Muscat, but it has its risks so its better that one of us has a stable income during this period, and as fate would have it, I was offered a great job in Dubai so I took it for a 1 year contract :D. Cross fingers for us that it all goes to plan so that this time next year I can be a lady of leisure....heheh :P

Its a 5 year old arab stallion, well behaved but still will need a good rider. He's pretty green so ideally Id be looking for someone that was good with flatwork. It more of a pleasure horse than anything, however I would like to do a bit of jumping with him as well next winter. He isnt very big (about 15.2hh or so) so the person would have to be not too tall as well :)

Apparently cheap and nasty, falling apart and not going back together so easily! :D Funny though how "cheap and nasty" is obviously popular since the founder of Ikea is one of the wealthiest men in the world. Oooh, Im an old poster but havent been on the site for quite a long time, but just a couple of days ago I put 2 posts up, one asking for help in the form of donations, another in the form of info.... but... I did say please and thank you!! I do kind of agree with the OP. The forum may be a place for exchanging info, but I think that there are a lot of people who get more out of the site than just info - take for example the "please pray for my babies" post a couple of years ago. I dont think there was one poster on this board that did not have an emotional attachment to that thread and it was such a painfully sad but equally beautiful thread that brought out the very nicest facet in everyone that posted. If thats what you take away from the site then great for you. If however you use the site for information, then thats also perfectly acceptable. But I think that what the OP was getting at was that it really isnt difficult to just say "please" when youre asking for help/info, and take 10 seconds to post a thanks when someone shares information with you or tries to help. Its a common courtesy, and certainly my mother would have given me a clip around the ear if i didnt say thank you when someone helped me! I dont accept either that english is a second language to some and therefore some should be excused from common courtesy due to the language barrier... I mean if you managed to navigate your way to be able to sign up to the site to be able to post, you should be able to suss out please and thank you.... I dont think the OP is looking for personal gratification, merely airing her views with regards to the decline in the levels of common courtesy which seem to be less in existence with every passing day (well at least thats how I read it!). I see it every day all around me, and at times it gets to me too. You hold a door open to help someone pushing a pram, and get a glare for your efforts; you smile and say thank you to the cashier at the till and they chuck your change and receipt on the counter instead of handing it to you. The list could go on and on.... Ok rant over! Im sick today, so maybe I should just be ignored :D

May be worth phoning first though to see if its still in stock before you drive all the way there. Note, sometimes its kept with the condensed milk and other times its by the cake stuff...

Acid Green is the most effective colour to accentuate dark purple as it is directly opposite it on the colour wheel. Orange and sea-green are the triad splits. Yellow and lime green are the standard split complemetaries. Royal blue and cerise pink are the analog colours for dark purple. HTH :)
