Ladies, I need to file a complaint against my landlord! I've spent over 10k on AC & water pump repairs and he doesn't reimburse me! Some details: - He is responsible for those costs according to the contract! - He was sent the quotations and agreed on email that we pay and he reimburse! - He plays games since then by not picking up his phone and not answering messages! - The rent contract is between him & the company my husband works for. - He got the one year rental cheque 3 months back! How it works with RERA since he lives in the UK : what happens if he does not show up at the hearing, what happens if we win but he does not pay, etc... Thanks for your advises.

Hi all! I'm moving with my two children in two weeks from the UK to dubai! Our new home is in sports city - obviously used to having a GP five minutes away here in England ! Can you lovely ladies please recommend me a good GP/ Peadiatrican local to me ? Same for a dentist of possible ! I would prefer a British doctor but not essential - just a good Pead who is friendly and doesn't just prescribe antibiotics for anything !! Thanks ladies ! For dentist, I recommend Agnes Roze. She is French (speaks English) / quite good and a little expensive (everything in Dubai is pricy anyway ;) I take my DD to her and happy so far.

Our maid is from Sri Lanka and has been looking after our 2 kids and our villa for the past 7 years. We pay her 2200 dhs per months and buy her groceries along with ours so I'd say it's probably an additional 300 dhs a month. Other costs to factor in are the annual visa renewals (6000 dhs) the optional health insurance (700 dhs), annual flight back to home country (2000 dhs), birthdays, xmas, etc... All in all we budget around 3300 dhs per month or 40,000 dhs per year Finally managed to find this post from Alexias and hoping she's still around and can guide me! Looking at your 6,000 annual visa cost makes me wonder why we are asked to pay 11,000 by our PRO to hire a Srilankan maid?! We've spent: 1000 visa application 2000 deposit 1000 status change & over stay Total of 4000 and having her employment letter so far But asked by PRO for another 7000 for the residency! He says its for processing fee Etc. Is this normal?!

Thanks everyone for responses. She is a Srilankan maid. Looks like I made a wrong calculation at the time thinking of about 7 to 8,000 including deposits Etc. ! I'll try to go and understand the situation a little better before giving the money to PRO! If I can somehow figure out which office I have to go to for the residency etc ?

It looks like this maid also has visa overstay fines that need to be paid There was only about 250 dirhams for her overstay already paid. No more fees for this.

the visa processing fee is definitely 5000dhs... deposit is 2000dhs (as far as i know this is only refundable when you cancel or transfer the maid's sponsorship from your name) I understand for the deposit. The PRO already spent 4,000 for the visa application/deposit/change status. She has now the employment letter. The question is should we spend another 7,000 to get her the residency/ medical fees?! Is the total of 11,000 normal? ?

Hi ladies, I am getting a little uncomfortable as DH PRO at office keeps asking for money to do the maid's paper work! We've paid him 6,000 which seems to be spent on: Visa application about 1000 Deposit of about 2000 Change status & over stay of 900 PRO has the balance of about 2000 and is asking us to pay another 5,000 saying it will be spent on processing fee! Does it mean I have to spend 11,000 knowing the 2,000 deposit will be reimbursed later on for one year of having the maid? Is this normal? Many thanks for your clarifications.

It's the most popular area for rental, so you wouldn't have problem finding a tenant. Just find one in a good tower for a good enough price, you will have to do your maths yourself... Park Island, Bay Central and Cayan were in high demand when I worked as an agent not that long ago. Many thanks Silvstet for the info. I hope this investment will be more successful than what we did in Europe which is empty for the past 5 months! Do you know if the whole rental process be smooth if we leave Dubai in future? Appreciate if you know of any tips.

She has a 30-days grace-period from her date of cancellation. After that you will be paying a fee for each day she stays. That means you have to start her application before he 13th of March (never mind her residency card, that doesn't matter). Soon as you've started the application process, you won't have to pay any fees. If you say the company keeps copies: does that mean she has her passport, because you will need her original passport. If she's available to start right away, let her, and make use of the 2 weeks you have between now and the 13th of March to do a trial run. 7-10 days is usually more than enough to see if she's a match to your house/family. That means you have plenty of time to start application (Typing, medical etc.) before her grace-period ends. Many thanks oopsiedaisy. She started working today (not yet settled in) so I can see a bit how she is. On top, she will have a husband staying with her! By looking at the copy of her "electronic work permit cancellation", I can see Feb 13th as the expiry date, however the bottom of the page is dated Feb 9th! So looks like the employer cancelled her few days earlier! The original passport is still with the employer. She tells me they even asked for her original ID card right after the cancellation (which she gave them). The employer told her once she find a family to hire her, we should send them an offer letter in order to collect the original docs! Is this normal? Is it us or my husband has to ask for it from his co. ? Would you pls let me know where to start the process in case we obtain the originals?

Hi ladies and gentlemen. I have been searching for a job and trying my best but its seems being African is the only crime I committed. I am a young lady and a graduate extremely hardworking, well experienced and fit to do any given task... yet whenever I tell them am an African I get weak response and no feedback. Even to work as a nanny yet no one wants to give a try.....pls why the discrimination what crime have we africans committed???? We never told God to make us africans.why are parents killing the zeal of the young african generation to make a decent living??? This is so unfair as I am discouraged and so feel so lonely in this race of life....thanks all for your time and contributions....God bless. Well... I was contacted few days ago by an African who was looking for job! She was sending me "good morning" messages and texts and finally found me over the phone! I invited her for an interview the same day and discussed all details and agreed on salary etc ! She was supposed to contact me yesterday to simply tell me what time she will come today with her suitcase to start the job!! All of sudden, I had to chase her for hours last night (same person who was sending me "good mornings!") and ended up hearing she wants more money!!! I guess I shouldn't had been that kind from the beginning!!! Now wind777, you just mixed up all your cards! The op is applying for jobs and don't get a call back, and in your case the applicant just walked away from a job offer with you... You can't generalise here, your post is something way different than the op's post I am sorry Gorobattie I am not here to argue this! Op tries to say she doesn't get response because she is African! I tried to say maybe that is not the case! Maybe Africans in general are not popular due to this kind of behaviors? I am sure there are good African ladies out there BUT there seem to be many families who are quite disappointed hiring Africans as well (more than other nationals). Once again, I shared my very recent experience as a person who didn't discriminate and invite for interview etc. The certain African candidate could simply behave and refuse the job by picking up her phone or sending a message instead of playing games for hours!!

The maid room with a separate shower and bathroom seem to be too small for certain maid having husbands on their shoulders! For others, they expected to fly to their country for 1.5 months in summer just 5 months after the work start!! And I obviously said NO, sorry!!

Hi There, It's a new rule in Dubai that you can pay around AED 750 more and change her Visa status to residence Visa. Also Medical is required - it can be anywhere though - you can try cosmos insurance which is in Business bay - they will help you with insurance facility. Hope this helps :) Deepika1490, let me use the opportunity to ask you my question even though it's not my own post! ? The 750 extra can work for Kenyan maids too? I interviewed one and she is in Dubai on a 2 months tourist visa which finishes end of March. Do you know what I should do for the paper works without using an agency ? Many thanks to you

Agencies are your friend I think. Then you can see if you like them and sponsor them if they are very good. I do think we also need to remember that these ladies are often away from thier own families and also need to be treated properly so be careful with the agencies. Thanks lovinthesun but the Kenyan maid is already here in Dubai with a tourist visa of 2 months! Why would I need to use agency in this case? Will I be able to do the paper works myself without paying extra fees to any agency??

DJ Jeff... Agree with DJ Jeff! Haven't used them myself but i know of someone who was happy with them... Between, I remember you were looking to a villa rent for a party and needed more details? Your email might have been deleted if ever sent me! If still looking, send me your contact to be passed on to the person I know. Thanks, I will check DJ Jeff as well! We have a venue secured already but we might look for a villa to rent the week of the wedding just for our guests. If you have any recommendation please email me [email protected]. Thanks! :) The owner of the villa is not willing to rent the place for long stays (days or weeks), however the place can be rented for any special occasions such as birthdays, gatherings, parties etc as it has a nice garden & pool. Sorry I couldn't be of help for the weekly rent.

Saw the photo she sent me unless there was a male British blue at the vet at the same time?!! ;) Do you know of a vet in Dubai so I can make the arrangement for deworming, microchip and potential vaccination in case the owner can't find the list book?! Thank you kitten67 for the detailed reply :) Just asked the owner and said she is an indoor cat (but then she got pregnant last year and owner thinks it happened at the vet!) Re the breed, she is a 3 year old British shorthair blue! Do you know about the breed? I heard older cats are usually less active and friendly! I hope she is a playful and friendly one and not disappoint us  The cat is in another Emirates! Do you recommend I go there, see a vet there and get the medicals done, leave the cat for a week with the owner and bring her to Dubai? (No idea about the time effect of deworming etc) so she is fully fine when coming to our place? Or simply bring her to Dubai, go straight to the vet and bring her home? And a silly question, can I give her a bath from time to time? I know cats don't like water ;)

Hi ladies, Considering fostering or adopting a cat for the last few weeks! A small family of three of us, DD is 8 and loves animals. Would you adopt a 3 year old directly from an individule? The cat seem to be a pure breed, female, 3 year old and got speyed only last year after giving birth to few kittens! I am new to the subject and don't know what to expect from the owner! She tells me she only has 2 vaccination book (one missing for now!), the other one shows only couple of vaccinations done in Aug last year and expired already. Looks like no deworming and no microchip has been done yet! What should I do? I strongly need to bring a totally healthy cat to our home as DD does not have strong immunity system. Should the owner give me any other paper work that I will need when leaving the country to take the cat with me? I am so concern, specifically on medical side! Appreciate your help the cat lovers!

You could start by fostering. Check bin kitty collective or K9 friends on Facebook. There are too many cats and dogs here desperate for homes. There usually are kittens on the page too Slightly off topic.. But can you or anyone else share their experience of fostering ? How does it work? The pet stays with you for how long and what you do when you go on holidays? Is the foster family responsible for putting them in kennels/cattery? Or they can go back to bin kitty/k9 friends for that period? We'd love to foster a cat but not sure of how it works. Any details would be great? Contact Bin Kitty or Feline friends. Explain you have never fostered before, they will walk you through it. Personally I have never enjoyed anything more, gave me my Kitty " fix " as I wasn't able to bring my hoard along with me. They will match you up with a cat/kitten, and will take care of all the vet bills etc. when you go on holidays another foster parent will take over the care while you are away. As far a food is concerned I always absorbed those costs but they also offer to provide food. HTH. Thanks everyone for the info. and advises. I am now considering probably to foster and hopefully adopt if everything goes fine :) I didn't even know about fostering existence! Tried to see bin kitty fb page and still waiting for the request acceptance. Just for curiosity, how if for whatever reason (child medical condition etc) you realize you can't continue fostering? What will happen to the poor pet? and since people asked here for vacations, is it going to be easy to find another fosterer till you return back? Thanks again

Hiccups, thanks for being so thoughtful and a little harsh indeed! I totally agree with you on the responsibility part and know it by heart. As said I used to have a big dog in past and yes, DD does remember her birds and fish and we get their news/photos regularly. We even studied how to bring them to Dubai at the time (even the red fish!!) if they are not with us today, the reason was the law here which didn't allow and not us! Appreciate to have advises on what I asked pls to help for the decision. No doubt that the adopted pet will be loved and taken care of ?

Carrefour has organic salmon. They also have organic beef. Most Australian meat here is free range, you can try spinneys on Mondays they usually have offers on free range & organic meat. They have liver, I buy lamb liver from there. As for chicken Al Rawda products are not labeled organic but they are free from hormones and they chickens are fed properly (check their website) I wouldn't bother about organic white fish, buy locally caught fish, it is sea fish. Hi wickedangel, i usually shop btw Carrefour, Spinneys and Geant! Most of the time I struggle finding fresh organic milk in Spinneys as looks like the supply isn't very regular!! No fresh organic milk in Carrefour & Geant! Do you have any recommendations? For chicken, where they sell Al Rawda that you mentioned earlier? Thank you

It just reminded me of one of my maid's conditions few years back (not in Dubai). I remember telling her on the 1st day of work (while explaining stuff) that she is responsible for any damage caused by her! If any cloth's damage, she will need to pay for it from her salary or replace the item with a similar one! It may look cruel but assure you, the attention level will be increased significantly!
