I don't think "they" have that much control over the weather do they really? Am i living in the past? You are! Seeding clouds with rain, or chasing clouds away to avoid rain have been regular practices around the world for many years. I understand seeding, but how did they create the thunder and lightning?Even the UAE can't do that

Thanks for the replies, have discovered that this craving is a good thing, a daily crunchie keeps the doctor away, also a weekly helping of dark chocolate with a hint of orange, guarantees you a good life, thanks ladies, after all it is calcium, it's got milk in it :)

My experience at the Iranian hospital was awful, I went after having a fall, got there, had the x-ray, only to be told all the doctors are off for the afternoon, come back at 5. I insisted that i see the A & E doctor, she told me I was fine, just go home. Went to Jebil Ali Hosp the next day, to discover i had 3 broken ribs, same x-ray, even i could see from the x-ray they were broken. Never again.

I have lived in dubai for 7 years, apart from a few nutters on the road, I don't have a problem with driving here, have only seen minor accidents, usually on al wasl, or beach road. Yes there are the occasional big accidents, but that happens in every country.

In his defence he says he didn't cross the red, but it must have turned red before he got to the other side (so he must have crossed orange...). I think you get caught when you leave your side orange, but don't get to the other side before it turns red! How do you know though? Do you get a text? Something similar happened to me twice last week! Was slowing down on flashing green when big SUV behind me honking and flashing lights so i had to carry on or risk being rear ended.. it was amber as I was going through but not sure if it changed before I got through .. I absolutely never do this i always slow down when they flash green but BOTH times I was in a single lane with a fast impatient SUV right on my tail, I do not know which is worse being rear ended by one of those in my small car of going through on amber, difficult to make the call in that situation. To get a text, you have to register on the police website, otherwise you can check for fines on the police website

if you break a contract as a teacher, you will be banned for 6 months for work. However the new school can pay the dirhams to have the ban lifted,. If a school wants you, they will either pay the banned fees or you will work on a visit visa for 6 months. HTH edited by winterice on 15/03/2012

When I lived in Hor al anz, i would frequently have men in cars stop to ask me how much? I was dressed in jeans etc. was just waiting for a taxi. We complained to our employers, and they contacted the police. Their was an increased police presence in our area. The area i lived in was in front of lots of restaurants, it didn't put them off, although the police presence did. Oh btw some of my friends would go out in an abaya, they were still approached.

You will need omani riyals if you need to get petrol once in Oman, the border should be quite quick on a Saturday. If having lunch at a restaurant, either CC or omani riyals. Do you have Oman car insurance?

Definately ask for the discount, I guess, cause they are so expensive, that they need to sell them, Tempur showroom must be making a huge profit. But I am really looking forward to a goods nights sleep. Before I went to the pharmacy, went to homes r us, their mattress's are rubbish, despite costing 6000dhs.

10%?? Thats fantastic!! Which Supacare was it? If you don't mind me asking ;) Also, did you go back to the Tempur showroom and ask if they would match the price? edited by Embo on 28/10/2011 It was in the Arabian Center, I did think about going back to Tempur but the lady in the pharmacy was so great, and said that my old mattress would be taken away for free, have written confirmation of that, i thought just do it.

Side note...if you just buy the mattress itself, make sure you put it on a SOLID base (not slats with gaps in between). If your bed has the slats, get a piece of plywood or MDF from ACE and put on top. Happy sleeping! You will love it :) Hi, why do I need a solid base. TIA

Have decided to go with Tempur, I just need a good nights sleep, but will check out the pharmacy tomorrow. Tempur are offering two free pillows, i think they cost about 800 each, so sounds like a good deal. I just need to make sure they take my old mattress for free, cause Gaby seemed to imply I would have to pay, and I am not paying if the new mattress is costing a fortune

I couldn't find a park there today! I checked with our local pharmacy and they quoted a price about 600 dhs less than what Gaby quoted over the phone. She said she *may* be able to take a further 5% off that too but wasn't sure. Just something to bear in mind if you decide to get one. Every dhs helps! Which pharmacy is that? Tempur have a promotion on until the end of the month, 15% discount, but you have to buy the bed. So for the basic mattress and the frame, it is up to 13000dhs. :)

I went to Zens asia spa in International city, it was 95 for a mani/pedi. Whilst my nails were drying, they gave me a back massage. They actually make sure your nails are dry, before you can leave. Tips and toes shove me out the door before my nails are dry.
