Hi all, I have a 5 year old daughter and I would like to have her eyes checked, it was recommended by a pediatrician in the UK as one of her eyes might be a little crossed. Any recommendations? Thanks.

hi sakhifa, the doctor she was at today was a gyno. she had a scan done in august, the technician said it was nothing, but as it was summer the doctor was not there to check it. she asked today and the gyno said she would track it down. later my wife got a call from the nurse or assistant, saying the doctor said to go see a surgeon. when she asked to speak to the doctor, the doctor had left. there are a lot of things that should/should not happen with doctors - after 8 years in the middle east i am no longer surprised by what can pass for healthcare in this region. edited by withnail on 04/11/2012

hi, we're looking for a gardener, we live in jumeirah 2. there is one who does some work for others in our compound but he is charging 2000 AED to put in new grass (and yard is not that big) and he wants 1000 AED to trim dead branches off some of the trees in our yard. i don't know much about gardening but this seems excessive to me. can anyone recommend a good gardener that they are happy with and who is reasonable? thanks.

hi, i have recently moved to dubai, jumeirah 2 area. previous tennants left some furniture in our place. a set of drawers with a mirror, for the bedroom, and an ikea shelf - it can be laid down to put a TV on or stood up to make a thin shelf (4 squares in it). the stuff is not in the best shape cosmetically but it is solid. i really hate throwing away things that still have life in them so if anyone knows a nanny or worker or family who would appreciate and use free furniture, please respond to this. thanks.

hi, i am looking for summer time activities for my 3 year old daughter. we move to dubai end of June, and she starts school in september. both my wife and i will be working so we are looking for activities/camp for july and august. we came across dubai holiday camps. does anyone have any experience with them? are they any good? one of the french daycares runs a camp in july but not august. it looks quite good, but if dubai holiday camps is any good we would prefer that as they cover august too. thanks in advance for your help.

hi, yes i am a man - i didn't realize i wasn't supposed to post - as you said i am posting for my wife (and daughter) so hopefully everything is OK. i think carrefour was open, but closed for an hour or two at 11 or 12 am and then opened again, but most shops in the mall are closed. ramadan in summer is brutal in qatar to be honest since you can't even take your kids to the park or pool. i'm glad to hear that dubai is different. thanks.
