It'll be fine. Once, LL's agent presented cheque early and it bounced. They said wait a few days, once the LL got the cheque, he presented it again and it was all fine. Happens all the time and as long as you're able to make payment, nothing to worry about. Edited to say: I actually think they can bring a case, only if its shown you do not have the funds to pay it anyway, which you do. Don't stress. edited by xmasbaby on 29/07/2012

i think its all about a slipperly slope. Its a tropical country with temperatures soaring, tourists are sold a tropical type vacation and come dressed for the same. Quite frankly as a Muslim observing Ramadan, I couldn't care less what people wear. I am more offended by the way people behave in general year round. Maids being paid what our hair cuts would cost, or labourers being denied basic rights, children bouncing around in the back seat of cars without seat belts on, those are the things that I would rather see campaigns about. Clothing - people will always have a view. In the 50s, the older generation gawked at the younger generation, the 60s, the 70's, and so on - its no different today - to me there's far more worrisome issues in the world going on to be worried about this. Oh well.

I've always heard it was banned, based on the 2008 incident (I was here when it happened) but I've never seen it on the banned list. Mind you, I went online to check out the various lists last night and all the relevant pages of the relevant websites, had nothing - so I referred to my 2009 list someon had posted on EW.

Kebabs? I just can't get creative which is horrible isn't it? We'll likely have tonight, tomato soup, grilled cheese on toast, salad, followed by kebabs, and mixed veggies. Later on we'll eat oatmeal - boring I know.

Food courts will be curtained off and any restaurants that are serving will do the same. Some will open at Iftar and those are usually visible by the fact that they are not curtained off. You should be fine

I don't know if this is similar to the offer being posted on the [url=https://www.facebook.com/volunteerindubai'>VID[/url'> page but according to the founder of Volunteer in Dubai, Lola Lopez .. You have done your part when you purchase the vouchers, the physical vouchers are just a receipt for you to keep HOWEVER you can volunteer to help with the distribution of the iftar Ah thats great! Thats what I was hoping!

Perhaps I'm dense but - just ordered 100 AED from this living social and I've now received an email saying that the voucher will be emailed to me within 48 hours. I specified that its a gift - its food for the labourers - now how do I get it to them!? I just assumed once I purchased, it would go into a common bank to provide their food. So question - what do I do now with voucher!?

We have one that we never used as my dd was a preemie and so too small at the time. We used one with our first and she loved it, and used it for nearly 2 years! Happy for you to have it for a minimal cost as I payed quite a steep price as I had it shipped from the states. edited by xmasbaby on 17/07/2012

Ididnt want my dd's eating processed sugars until they were over two. I did make a sugar free cake (clown decorated) that I did give them a piece off. All others had their choice of either sugar free or regular! Both were a hit!

We find QA definitely better than Etihad and Emirates but shockingly we flew KLM recently (dxb-toronto) and I have to say the staff were the most amazing ever. I was so so so impressed with them that I actually wanted to write a letter. It was 2 seperate flights both ways so 4 flights in total and each time they went over and above to check on me (as I was with 2 children 2 & 6). Whenever I fly Emirates, they are so rude. In fact one time placing my dd with a stranger and telling me their was nothing they could do. I put up a fight on the plane and said under no circumstance was I letting my 6 year old sit beside a strange man for 15 hours. They finally changed it but it wasn't easy. After flying KLM I will never fly Emirates again to Toronto even if this flights adds 3 hours. Another time, I asked if they could bring my meal a bit later as I was feeding the 1 year old (who had its own seat) and the 5 year old and they said no, you eat it now or never. This time with KLM, they offered to bring my meal after so I could tend to the kids first and even offered to watch them if I needed a washroom break!

That happened to me on the weekend. I totally panicked as it was Friday and I thought the kids need A/C! Anyways, I shut it off for a few minutes and then put it back on and the E4 message disappeared and the room started to cool. Prior to that it was simply blowing warm air. In the past when its happened, we called maintenance and they've come and fixed it... the last time it need some fluid top up.

Hi Xmasbaby, I've been in the same predicament, having been given these as the best type for me by specialist running store Pro Feet in London for my last marathon and having run the living daylights out of them, I tried the same search as you and came up with very little. I did actually go to Leader Sports and whilst they seemed to have the latest mens version, they didn't have decent ladies ones (I can't upsize to mens as I have small, narrow feet) and they tried to palm me off with a pair that looked as though they'd been languishing in their stock room for 15 years. No joy anywhere else, so I ended up switching to Saucony, which are OK, but not as good as the Wave Rider. So, if you find some, please do let me know :) Same here - they were also recommended to me by the running specialist store back home due to my gait (underpronation!). Anyways, no luck BUT I was able to order them off of Amazon.com and have them shipped to my shop and ship account. They weren't badly priced either -

I did the surgery with Atlanta vision in 2008 for about 13000 AED and it was the best thing I ever did. So based on my recommendation, my friend did hers via the cobone deal and yes, she had the same thing - where they added 3000 AED for the more advanced (same as mine) option. She also felt like it was a bit of cheat but had the surgery and now about 1 month into is has 15/15 vision (I do as well 4 years on now). She did find she had dryness - alot and I recommend start putting drop in before the actual surgery. Thats what Dr. Ashraf had recommended to me but they didn't with my friend b/c they went in on a cancellation appointment. Her eyes took a much longer time to heal due to severe dryness but overall is now perfect. Good luck but yes if they are sneakily adding that extra 3000 AED, a bit sad but then again better than what I paid! lol

Am I the only one who can't see the need for a phone to play games-my ancient Nokia makes and takes calls-no camera-no apps-no nothing-and like it like that! Drives me crazy to see people sitting together for lunch fiddling around on their phones and not talking to each other. Sat on the metro the other day and the couple next to us texted each other the whole way...... I certainly wouldn't be playing games in lieu of speaking to my friends, dh etc. Not that I have to justify but I play games when I'm on my own downtime, the same way one might watch tv though I find the challenge more stimulating than tv. Go figure I enjoy reading too ;)

Hello Safa, My plastic surgeon is Dr. Sahar at Cosmesurge, and I cannot recommend her enough. She is a true artist. I am beyond delighted with my results. I have the belly of a model, and that is above and beyond what I had expected, and I'm only 3weeks post op! If you put your email, I'll be glad to show you my before and after. I decided to go back to work at 2 weeks post op and was so nervous about whether i'd be hunched over. This is my first week of work and I feel great. Would you mind sharing with me - I am also thinking of getting one done. I've seen Dr. Buthainah and was very pleased with our discussion but I dont know anyone whose actually had the procedure done. My email is xmasbabyzerofive at gmail dot com Thanks

its part of the Arabic/Asian culture and you don't really have a right to speak up on it Is it knowledge worth imparting to children (or adults, even) - that there's nothing wrong with having different skin colour? You would think so, I absolutely agree, but as mentioned it is 'cultural thoughts' and if parents themselves (so many examples from other posters) believe this, who are we to interfere? It would be like someone of another culture telling me to piece my daughter's ear when she was a baby, circumcise my son and stop drinking alcohol.:\: A while ago I saw a family with a small girl (of about 5) wearing a hijab - I thought that was absolutely wrong on a small girl but it's a cultural thing and parents' choice the values they instal in their families. Same issue here. They believe light skin is right, so why do we have to interfere? In some cultures it is acceptable to murder a son or daughter deemed to have brought dishonour on the family, should we also stand aside and not interfere? Just because something is cultural doesn't mean that it should continue to be so, and this line of thought, that someone worth is determine by the colour of their skin is simply wrong. Children are so vulnerable, they are succeptible to their parents' beliefs these comments will stay with them for the rest of their lives. Some may outgrow it but many do not not. Pomegranate - The difference with making a young child wear hijab is that it doesn't destroy their pysche, where their self worth is tied to their skin colour. Its simply 'different' while one view actually attacks the core of a child's identify (one they can't change no matter how much whitening cream they use) and ultimately society in the long run. I absolutely agree with Sea of Love's comments above. Just b/c one doesn't have the same 'cultural' issues, doesnt mean they should speak to it. I think its quite a riduculous comment for one to suggest that people have 'no right to speak up about it'. As part of either culture, you should welcome any voice that empowers our children to value themselves more regardless of skin colour. It is wrong - its racism against our own, and that is disgusting. As I said earlier, I am quite fair by Arab/Indian standards and was always asked if I was mixed and it was like a 'status symbol' to have 'white' in you and yet, I was still told to scrub and not get dark as though that would destroy who I was. You should their faces now that I go back to Canada with a tan - its like why would you do that yourself?! I am sorry but this is unacceptable and to think my children will grow up with the same mindset is upseting. If people realise this is an issue, then people will speak out to it, and hopefully over time, change the way we think. edited by xmasbaby on 06/06/2012

I think unless you're of Asian/African decent, its hard for one to appreciate the struggle that children of colour encounter. Its something you grow up with and commented on by family members from the time you are born. We are mixed and my own family called on the day my children were born and the first question is 'is she fair?' - not is she healthy, are you okay - its is she/he fair. These are smart people but its so engrained in them that they don't even realise how stupid it is. Its not about the grass being greener, its about the way these races perceive beauty and the white/more European you look/finer features the 'prettier' you are seen in the eyes of your own race and you can only imagine what that does to one's confidence. Its the reason why most coloured artists/models/bollywood/hollywood stars of ethnic orgin are photoshopped to be several shades lighter when on the cover of magazines. In recent years, there has been greater awareness - several articles recently on Beyonce's photoshopping etc - and the reality is ads such as Dove's aimed at kids, reinforce what they are already taught at home. I recall when I moved here, both Indian and Arab women telling me the best hammams to go to so that I could SCRUB the TAN off. "Dark" is considered "ugly and it truly does affect the way children feel about themselves which is not the same as straightening one's hair, or tanning. Its engrained into their beings and until that overriding feeling ends, there will always be a market for ads such a Dove's.

I love them and actually find the scrubbing quite massaging..But I'm pretty used to them and have very dry skin so perhaps it hurts less :) I love the DLC for monthly and for a really pleasurable experience one and only. Enjoy but if you have a tan, it will be gone!

yes there are buses but bear in mind they are packed with people and you have to wait for them to fill on the return journey. i've been to lots of concerts at yas and get a private driver most times. they drop us off, we call them when we come out and jump in as they pull up. for the 600 dh it costs for a nice sedan it's well worth it IMO - and that's usually split between four of us. Thats what we're doing. Save ourselves the stress.

I would be inclined to not say anything. May you explain why please? Although I 100% agree with what Redlesley is doing, I wouldn't individually say something because I think any person could find fault with another person's parenting. and I'm sorry but THAT is the most ridiculous argument I've yet heard to date. So if you saw someone in your family getting a child to smoke or drink alcohol say, would you also be inclined to say nothing? Or if you saw that child constantly near a naked flame? some situations are nothing to do with parenting style but everything to do with education I have to agree that this has nothing to do with parenting style as well! This is about safety and protecting children and its everyone's responsibility. When I was growing up in Canada, I recall as a child that safety belts were not really the norm until I was about 4 or 5 but then it was drilled into our heads with tv commercials, the police enforced it and other parents informed other parents. There were campaigns at schools - it was full on! Hospitals wouldn't let you leave unless you had a car seat safely installed. I know thats the case in AD now isn't it - I really hope you can get through to them. To me this is about providing information to protect societys children - and I think thats everyones responsibility.

May be you can buy them a car seat as a gift anyway and enclose a folder of printouts with some info on the car safety (ideally in Arabic) specially for children. As for bad eye, would attach a blue eye pin or similar to the carseat, so they don't think that you want to brink any bad luck. Also, if they have Facebook accounts, you could also share the page for Buckle Up In the Back Dubai. At the end of the day, do what you think is right and then leave it up to them to make a decision. edited by dramaqn on 03/06/2012 Excellent advice and perhaps what I would do (including the little blue eye pin).

Just watched this with tears running down my face. How on earth do parents get over this? To lose a child is unthinkable, but 3 in such awful circumstances must be a living nightmare. There was also a Spanish couple who lost 3 children, wonder why we haven't heard much about these poor people unless they have simply "gone to ground" and don't want publicity? My heart goes out to everyone involved. I was thinking the same thing as the Spanish couple also lost 3 children, I think 2, 4, and 7. That would equally devastating I would imagine. Everytime I see anything related to this, I am so heartbroken so I can't imagine what those connected feel.

I've sponsored my parents so they can come and go without the need for a visa. They are from Canada but the process is the same for everyone. I have to say, it was relatively straightforward and within a week of submitting the documents, I got an sms saying it was approved. Its renewed annually for the same cost as a child so like 700 AED though you must put 5000 per parent the first round. You need to go and apply the application at the DNRD (Immigration Department) . You should have the following documents: a. A copy of your passport with your residency page b. A copy of your parents passports along with passport pictures d. A copy of our lease. Ours was a villa so that was all we had to provide (they want to ensure you have space for them) e. Your last DEWA bill f. A salary letter from my employer g. h. Document to prove your relationship with your parents - so I provided the long form of my birth certificate - this document should be certified by your embassy/consulate i. You need to sponsor both your parents, if your father is not present (divorced or deceased), you need to present a proof of that, and the document should be certified j. Affadavit of support - basically a letter that I signed that said, I was solely responsible for their wellbeing and that we would be responsible for any expenses they incurred here in the UAE. - happy to email you the letter we used if need be. j. Fill the application in any of the typing centers They reviewed it when I submitted it and then said it would take 7 days. It did and then once approved, residency visas were issued, they entered, took them them for their medicals and then within a few days, passports were stamped. It sounds onerous but if you have all the info together, its quite straigtforward.
