Hi Scurry77! Haven't been on the forum for a while and glad to see our thread is still active. I had my little one at 41 weeks by c-section and she is now a month and a half. We are both doing great and its amazing to see how fast she is growing. Breastfeeding was difficult at first but definitely better now....you can tell as I now have time to check out EW LOL! Will be good to hear from the other ladies and hopefully catch up with everyone :-)

Congrats scottishgal! Great minds/bodies think alike. I gave birth to a beautiful baby girl on Sunday 7th too! She was 3.5 weeks early, weighing in at 6lb9oz! My EDD was 30 october. Baby Scarlett certainly gave me a shock :) waters broke first at 2.30am on Saturday and she arrived 3pm Sunday. Spent most of my labour at home which was really nice and I would recommend you all do it if you can! Just so that you can move around and eat and drink. Also tv takes your mind off the pain whereas in hospital everything is focused on the pain which makes it worse. Official established labour (after I was induced) was 2 hours and my contractions actually pushed baby out w/o me having to push more than twice. She crowned on her own. It sounds good but I was having irregular contractions for about 10 hours which for some reason don't count as real labour because I wasn't dilating. They certainly felt real to me and very sore!!! Anyhow best of luck to the rest of you with your labour! Xx edited by Scurry77 on 10/10/2012

Hey Ladies, How are we all doing? not sure who was at the dubai mall coffee morning the other day, was shocked to see such a turn out. i really enjoyed it and will be something i will keep going to when LO arrives. Thankfully he has stayed put for the last couple of weeks, now that i am approaching 37 weeks i feel like the pressure is finally off. My OB says things are starting to move which is exciting and terrifying all at the same time. 11Legs, how are you settling into your new role? Thank you for sharing your birth story. Any tips for those of us yet to deliver? Anything that you didn't take to the hospital but wish you had. scurry77, i did hear about the nappy factory explosion however so far in dubai i see no change to the stock of nappies, i imagine it will depend on what brand you have chosen to use. Ive decided to go with pampers disposables. Carrefour at midiff has tons of them on special offer at the moment. 37Aed for 66pack plus pack of newborn baby wipes. Needless to say i stocked up as they had a variety of sizes. I just bought newborn 1 + 2. Which event were you at? Myself, Blume and Ginger Dee were at the Bumps and Babes meet with Destination Maternity. It's a pity we didn't get to meet you. I enjoyed it as well and will be going for tomorrow's bumps and babes.

Congratulations 11legs - fabulous news, how is baby settling in? Im not sure if your story is reassuring or not! Its sounds like it was just chance that the nurse picked up that you were having contractions - thats a bit of a worry! And the screaming i agony wasnt so reassuring either :) Im scared! General question to all - Is anyone trying Cloth nappies? Just heard that the prices and availability of disposable nappys may be on the rise due to an explosion at a nappy factory in Japan - its got me thinking about Cloth nappies and whether its a viable option here. I really havent seen any info on this at all - from the ante natal classes or in shops. Anyone trying it? Or have tips/recommendations on where to buy the gear? Also i finish work next Monday (YAY) and im going to go along to the Dub Marina Mall Thusrady morning coffee on 11th - is anyone definitely going? Im a chicken and it would be nice to have at least one person that i can find and talk to. What are the ladies like there?

Thanks Taurusbaby and ScottishGal4. The kicking and moving shouldn't stop although it may become less frequent as you get bigger and there is less room. If you ever become worried about less movement have a glass of cold water, this wakes the baby up! Anyway I don't mind sharing my birth story which is a bit bizarre to say the least. Just to explain the first time around I was in the UK and after a long labour of around 27 hours, the doctors decided to do an emergency c section as my baby's heart rate had been high for a while and the baby was in distress. So the second time around here in Dubai I opted for an elective c section as I had been told that if you are in labour for 10-12 hours they would want to give you a c section so I thought what's the point in waiting all that time?! I was booked in for Wednesday, a week before my due date at 9 am. I had a feeling I wouldn't make it because the pressure down below had been intense for weeks. The baby moved down at around 33 weeks whereas the first baby tends to move down around 37 weeks. I have never experienced Braxton Hicks nor contractions that start and then stop and even the first time around it was only when the labour actually started that I had my first contraction. On Sunday night I was feeling a lot of pressure down below and it was coming in waves. I just thought it was part of my body's process of getting ready for the birth. I managed very little sleep and it stopped being so regular in the morning. It was happening about 3/4 times an hour as opposed to about every 10 minutes or so. I drove my daughter to nursery and even had one of these weird motions whilst driving, dangerous when I think about it now but hey I didn't think it was anything to worry about. At about 10am I started getting them again and thought I should phone the hospital. They of course asked me to go into the emergency room. Not expecting it to be anything of concern I left my bag at home and drove to hospital (probably shouldn't have done this either). I got to the hospital at about 1040 and they put the bands around my tummy and didn't think it was contractions I was having. The doctor examined me at 1100 and said no I wasn't in labour. I had also asked her to check me on Saturday at my last antenatal check up as I was very paranoid that something was going to happen and she had said no I was going to be fine for the planned section. By about 1130 the weird motions started coming more frequently and it just happened that a nurse came to check on me whilst one was happening. She told me that I was having contractions and that she would ask the doctor as I was not in labour. That was when the fun really started. As I was having contractions but not in labour, the doctor said that the only option was an emergency c section between 1-130 and this was at 1210. I started crying as the first time ended the same way and I had hopes for a lovely planned section - yeah right! The contractions became longer and intense. They were trying to prep me for the section and kept having to stop because I kept grabbing hold of anybody near me as the contractions were coming more quickly and more intense. Before I knew it I was 7 cm dilated, screaming, begging for drugs. They told me that there was no time for drugs so I believe my words were please kill me then! In what seemed like a few minutes I was told that I was fully dilated and had the urge to push. Without meaning to I pushed twice so then my doctor said Are you going to try naturally? At this point I was beside myself, screaming and absolutely going crazy so I said no please can I have a c section because I cannot take anymore. The next thing I knew they were putting an oxygen mask over my face saying I would be asleep shortly. I woke up at 3pm and my baby was born at 120. I can't get my head around the fact that I was supposedly not in labour at 1100 and had a baby just over 2 hours later. When I saw the doctors that had been with me when I was in labour on the wards they still couldn't get over how quickly it had all happened seeing as the first time around the labour had been so slow and I was not in labour when I arrived at the hospital. I think that if I had been in control or could have had drugs I would have tried naturally but it was never going to happen with the state I was in. The doctors jokingly said to me next time I could try naturally! Not sure if I can see even envisage what is going to happen in the next hour at the moment never mind another baby! We have now been home since Thursday and it seems to be ok. My toddler is slowly adapting to the baby. I am waiting for her to ask me when the baby is going home. The baby seems to like sleeping for long periods at night which I am not complaining about but I think could be shortlived. She is still a bit jaundiced so we had to go back to hospital today and have to go again on Monday. I think she is ok, just looks tanned! I would like to meet up soon and intend to go to the Bumps and Babes Monday coffee morning soon. My mother in law is here next week so I am not sure if we will go then. I hope that you are all feeling well and are not too nervous about the next stage. I hope that you all have lovely deliveries (apparently they do happen but just not for me :-( )

Great news 11legs....happy to hear your little one is here already! If you can, tell us more about your birth story :-). First one down....only means the rest of us are really close now. Looking forward to hearing all the updates of other babies arriving. A few of us met a couple of weeks ago and it was nice. We are hoping to catch up again at the Destination Maternity bumps meet up on Oct 1st. Hopefully we can meet more of you ladies there. Scurry77 - I don't think the kicking stops. I only have two weeks left and she is still kicking up a storm inside. Am guessing we feel it more now because there isn't much space in there for them. Luckily am only getting (or feel ) the kicking when am awake and it doesn't keep me up at night. Scottishgal - how are you keeping up after the little scare you had? Good to hear that City looked after you well. We'll see you at the bumps meet?

MrsPink Good job on the swaddle bag. I think a couple of the girls have met up once and are planning on doing so again - unless they all hated each other..lol. Ive glanced at Jules across a crowded Yoga room - does that count? :) I didnt know it was her though. Im still stuck at work so i cant go to the usual Thursday morning coffee meet-up at Cafe Nero in Dubai Marina Mall, but im hoping you guys keep your legs crossed for a few more weeks so i can meet you all before you have your babies. Im working until 8 October so the first coffee morning i can make is thursday 11th. Im really looking forward to meeting everyone so people please keep cooking those babies a while longer! I get the feeling the first month or so of new babies will mean we are all locked up at home and not out and about. Im not due until 30th October so i will probably the last out of the gate...Im getting very nervous now:) By the way are your babies still kicking up a storm? I thought they were supposed to slow down towards the last few weeks as they ran out of room, but my little girl has done no such thing and if anything seems to have become more active. Felt like she was doing Riverdance in my belly until 4 am this morning - not good when i have to get up for work! Just wondering when i can expect to get some sleep again....tired.com

hey ladies, how are we all this week? I'm so sorry that i made arrangements this week and had to cancel at the last minute. Great to see you all had a lovely time. We went for our 34wk app at city yesterday and ended up being admitted as i was 1cm dilated and 70% effaced.. They monitored LO for 24hrs and he should no signs of stress. I was also given 2 steroid injections to mature his lungs as my Dr feels we are not going to make it over 37weeks. Happy to be home again now but also cant believe we are now on baby watch. For weeks I have been feeling so prepared as i thought i still had 6weeks now feel in a panic to get the nursery finished.. All the staff at city were wonderful and really made me feel in good hands.. I would really like to attend the destination maternity coffee morning on the 1st but will just have to see how things progress would really love a catch up while i still have bump..

Hi girls! Sorry Ive been off-line for a while. I had a miserable cold for over a week and what with work being busy and re-painting our flat I havent had much online time. Im sad i missed the meet up on saturday - husband and I were at AnteNatal classes all weekend at AH. Ive come into work this morning feeling like i need a weekend to recover! They were great but a bit scary...esp the ladies in the birthing videos making such awful sounds :( Im def more nervous and scared about labour now - how are you guys feeling about it? Have any of you made choices on pain relief options....i think im going to play it by ear and see how fast i progress before i scream for the Epi :) I feel ready for baby in some ways i.e. ive got most of the baby things i need and my hospital bag is packed, but in every other way im starting to feel a bit panicked! Im hoping things will be better in 3 weeks when i finish work and have time to meet up with you guys and other mums - it was sad but alot of the mums at the classes were a bit offish. I was hoping to meet other mums and make some connections but i guess because everyone had their husbands there, so was a bit anti-social. So anyways next time you guys meet up pls let me know (sjnevison at gmail dot com)...next weekend (21/22) is out for me as I have my nephews birthday party on Friday and im having an afternoon tea/baby shower on the saturday - but apart from that im pretty much free every weekend. I finish work on 8 October so i can also meet on week daytimes after then. Jules i didnt make it to yoga on that saturday as i had my last scan and im thinking i probably wont be able to make it to many more - ive got SPD and have quite bad pains at the tops of my legs and in my pelvis - its sore but ive only got 6 weeks left so i'll just have to suck it up!! Ive got a gym ball that im rolling around on to try and get rid. Im hoping it will decide to fade a bit once im not in an office chair all week but we'll see :) Oh and welcome MrsPink - cool name by the way! Ive got a swaddle blanket from Mothercare here and also a couple of muslin swaddle blankets coming from Aden & Anais that i will be using. I havent seen any swaddle bags like this though in Dubai - they have sleeping bags but no swaddle bags that ive seen. You may be better just ordering from Amazon and getting them delivered here - if you have a shop and ship account it makes it much cheaper!

Hi ZiGo, I find that when you are pregnant the doctors seem to tell you something and get you all worried and it generally turns out to be nothing to worry about. I think in my first pregnancy my blood pressure went up towards the end which sparked a bit of a panic where my midwife monitored me closely for a few days but it was ok and I did read that this was not unusual because of the extra weight you are carrying. I hadn't thought about genetics and I think I may have been a bigger than average baby but second babies are often bigger. I have got everything in my hospital bag from size 1 nappies to snacks but I am going to check what the hospital provides so I don't duplicate anything. There was a post on here about what ladies thought was a good idea to put in your bag. It would be worth a search. I had two separate bags the first time around, one for me and one for the baby. I came unstuck though when I went to hospital to be checked out when my waters had broken and contractions had not started because I didn't end up leaving the hospital until 5 days later. I didn't think to take the baby's bag as I thought I would be going home. Don't know about a oxigenifier - never heard of one of those. Bumps and Babes is an Expat Woman Coffee Morning for mums to be and those with babies. They meet every Monday at either Mall of The Emirates (MOE) or Dubai Mall. This Monday it is at MOE at Costa Coffee near Ski Dubai. I used to go when my daughter was smaller and not mobile. Perhaps see you there?

11Legs, I also have a bigger than avg baby :) but our doctor says that a lot of it has to do with genetics, as both my husband and I were above 4.3 kg at birth. I also repeated the sugar test at 32w, everything is okay :). My doc is also giving me an option of induction at 37 w for a natural delivery, to ensure an easier labour... My husband has been reading up on labour and birth and is now asking me everyday whether I had packed my hospital bag, but I am still not sure what I actually need - any advice from those of you who have? I am also super psyched about the nursery! The wallpapering has already been done, but the curtains are taking a bit of time as the cost of fabrics from the same collection is sky high so I was researching online stores in Europe! Found it at half price including delivery YAY! Now just need to find a good tailor - again would love some suggestions from someone who has already been through this :) I must say that, with this being our 1st baby we am absolutely clueless as to what we need to buy, we opted not to get a changing table but instead use a changing pad spread on the bed. I have also been told that we should look at getting an "oxigenifier" something like a humidifier but in addition it spits outs oxygen aswell... 11Legs - what is the MOE Bumps & Babes? has anyone else of you ladies been there?

Hi everyone. Hope you are well and not too uncomfortable. What an eventful couple of days! My insurance company told us fibs about maternity benefits last year so as a result we did as suggested and signed up to the government hospital to lessen the potential shortfall. However, they stopped paying antenatal claims so I queried it and good job I did. They told me some more rubbish about me having double the amount I thought I had to spend on the delivery. We then queried this further through my husbands HR department and it turns out if I had chosen a hospital on the network such as City, American, Medcare etc everything would have been covered despite being more expensive than where I was. As a result I have now changed hospital at 36 weeks! and am now going to deliver at Medcare as the insurance company, despite being in the wrong would not meet the shortfall from Latifa hospital (despite it being much less than any of the private hospitals that they will now have to pay out for?!). The only issue to deal with now is the fact that Latifa has got a thing about my baby being too big so I need to repeat the sugar test without the nasty drink. Medcare are arranging this despite saying they thought the baby was a bit big. I wouldn't mind but they are talking about doing the c-section in 3 weeks time and I wonder if it is worth all the fuss but they know best! I am looking forward to not being pregnant anymore but a bit nervous about number 2 arriving. I am so uncomfortable as she has been down for a few weeks and sometimes I struggle to even walk as the pains in my legs are quite bad. My back isn't great either. Never mind not long to go now... I am going to try my best to go to MOE for Bumps and Babes on Monday. Lisa (who runs it) said that there are a few ladies at similar stages to us. bye for now

Hi everyone! Certainly is getting close now isn't it?! My due date is 6 weeks away now! Scurry very much feeling like baby had a huge growth spurt this past week or so, after not doing much for a while and along with it has come more trouble sleeping, feeling uncomfortable when sitting like there just isn't enough room in there, feet and hands swelling up and some new aches and pains in my back and pelvis - the things we go through eh? Dr britt had a good theory though, she said if pregnancy was comfortable right up to the end no woman would ever accept that they have to go into labour and would just want to be pregnant forever- this way women are usually glad to have to give birth just to get comfy again :-) My baby shopping is coming on now, but need to get a few more bits and then start getting it all washed and set up, but feel like I have plenty of time because I'm not working sure I'll start to feel more rushed soon though! Haven't even thought about my hospital bag but guess it would probably be a good idea! I'm still going to coffee mornings and am pretty much there every Monday and thursday so just let me know if you're coming along and I'll keep an eye out for anyone who fancies it. Going to try the yoga at exhale today, as I'd seen some of you were doing it and it came recommended by one of the other coffee morning ladies, I'm hoping it will help with some of my aches and pains. just the small matter of my first drive to jbr... Hi girls! It's so good to hear from you all, and welcome ZiGo. Scurry - hope you had a lovely holiday, and ScottishGal lucky you being away again - hopefully it will feel a bit cooler here when you get back. So I have just 2 more weeks at work after this week - can't wait! And due date is 5 weeks tomorrow. I'm really starting to feel quite big and heavy... But sleeping is slightly better for some reason and I'm not really suffering with ligament pain so I think I must be lucky there. I need to pack my hospital bag this weekend. Think mine also may be a suitcase! And baby stuff is more or less there now. Scurry - I haven't had a 3D scan done - think I'd rather wait and see what he looks like in real life! And haven't looked into professional photographer for newborn photos but I could be interested in this. Also Scurry - have you been to Exhale yoga recently? I haven't been for a while due to doc appts and other commitments, but am going to go this Saturday. Would be great to see you there. All - let me know if/when you plan to go to the coffee mornings. I'm definitely going to go once I finish work, and would be up for going one morning (preferably Thursday) before then if some of you lovely ladies also go. :) Actually taurusbaby just thinking about your post - maybe now is a good time to arrange our meet-up.... Take care ladies xxx
