Newborn Visa in Azerbaijan

If, as an expat, you choose to give birth in Azerbaijan you will have to apply for a birth certificate and register the birth. It is important for temporary residents and foreigners to contact their respective embassy after the birth of the child in order to process a passport and visa for the child. According to the regulations of most countries even newborns are required to have an individual passport.

Residents should apply to one of the civil registry offices within one month of the birth. There are many civil registry offices in Azerbaijan and are all listed on the Ministry of Justice website.

Be aware that there may be a lot of red tape and you should call in advance to find out exactly what documents are needed in order to register the birth at the registry office. It is also a good idea to find out the operating hours and plan ahead. Do not leave this until the last day, be prepared.

For birth registration

According to the Ministry of Justice website, the following are documents that you need in order to register your child’s birth.

a) The certificate of medical institution proving the fact and time of birth;
b) The certificate of a doctor assisted the birth once it takes place in the house;
c) Documents identifying parents and certificate of marriage concluded between them;

There is no fee for this service. Once you have completed the above, take the documents to your embassy to begin the process for a passport and visa for your newborn child.
