 Guide to Art Galleries in Azerbaijan

One of the best ways to get to know a new culture is through art. Art is often said to imitate life and people's feelings are strongly evoked through art. It is for this reason that visiting art galleries will help you get to know Baku, it's political climate now and in the past and also it's people and their heritage. It wil allow you to make your own interpretations too.

Sattar Bahlulzadeh Exhibition Center

Gallery hosts exhibitions, including personal art exhibitions, of local and international artists.

The Azeri Miniature Art Center

Location: 15, Gulla str., Icheri Sheher, Baku

Open daily from 10am-6pm

Exhibitions of art works of modern Azerbaijan and foreign artists as well as the charitable events are organized in this center. There is the permanent exposition on the second floor of the center.

Qis Qalasi Gallery

The private art gallery “Qis Qalasi” was opened in 1999. The gallery has a total area of 250 sq. m. and consists of three exhibition halls with modern design. Visitors of “Qis Qalasi” have a wonderful opportunity to trace the development of Azerbaijani art in 20th century. Works of artists of all generations are presented here. There are exhibitions and sales here once in 30-40 days.

Absheron Art Gallery

“Absheron” art gallery arranges art contests for children and youth including various exhibitions of art works by gifted young photographers and artists.

Art Gallery

One of the most beautiful galleries of our capital city is located on the 4th floor of the Museum Centre. The Art Gallery, comprising five halls (overall area 400 m2, exhibition area 700 m2), is equipped with all the necessary light and sound equipment. It is unique and original, because the exhibits are lit by natural daylight from above.

Art Gallery Beyuk Gala, 19

The «Beyuk Gala, 19» Art Gallery was opened in 1989. From the time, it has developed, and now every year this Art Gallery holds tens of exhibitions, among them not only art, but also commercial ones. They also organize other events, such as artistic evenings and workshops, concerts and poetry soirees, meetings with artists etc.

In 2012, to fulfill the obligations assumed by the improvement in infrastukturasının art, create commercial-based Spaces of Contemporary Art "Summer" has established an exhibition hall. This exhibition of works created by local and foreign artists are exhibited. All profits from the sale ones are apportioned between the artist CREATE Contemporary Art Space, Create Space for Contemporary Art, the share of the profit is used to fund the programs.

Yeni Gallery

As the exhibition site for Baku Arts Centre, Yeni Gallery marks the latest step in a succession originally begun in 1986, when a group of artists in Azerbaijan established a collective. This group formed to implement collaborative projects and develop cultural and humanitarian content under the name Association of Creative Youth of Azerbaijan. In 1988, the Association of Creative Youth of Azerbaijan initiated the Baku Arts Centre, which became the hub of all creative activity in Azerbaijan.

Within the decorative arts, part of the world’s cultural heritage, dolls have every right today to loudly proclaim themselves works of art in their own right. This unique art form is at least 25,000 years old. Having been reborn and developed from cult, toy and theatrical dolls, they have become art dolls and stand worthily among the other arts. The creations of famous masters can be found not only in private collections, including those of presidents and kings, but also as exhibits in the world's best museums.

When it comes to graffiti, or more generally to street art, a bulk of stereotypes and myths embraces the consciousness of every man loyal to mass media. The terminology is confusing - the guys working in this genre are called writers, graffitists and street artists, and the work that they do is either referred to as contemporary art or considered to be deterioration of communal property.
