I was in my villa in Ajman doing some artwork when a local friend called and told me to put on the TV. He knew my cousin John worked in the Twin Towers for Cantor Fitzgerald (I think he was based on floor 105) and my aunt (Johns mother) worked in a building just a min or two away. I was horrified and very worried for my family members. I called my dad in UK and he was trying to get news from my uncle but was not getting a line connection. I do remember sitting there after they said it was the work of Islamic nut jobs wondering what my family must be thinking of me as I had only 2 years prior converted to Islam which had not gone down too well at the time. My cousin and aunt survived. John was late going to work that day and as his train was pulling in or about to arrive near the station which I believe is under the twin towers, the first plane hit. If he had been on time he would not be here today. edited by imanesmama on 12/09/2011 <em>edited by imanesmama on 12/09/2011</em>

This story was terrible and plenty of it continues to go on. These private homes are run on greed in my opinion and patient care is few and far between. It hit home hard for one of my work collegues. Her daughter has been in a specialist home for the past 10 years. She had a massive stroke at the age of 30 and is in one of the very few specialist homes that deals with her level of brain damage. The home she was in previous to this abused her by literaly burning the skin off both legs by plunging her into a bath of boiling hot water at 3am in the morning and leaving her there despite her screams. This home was actually closed down after a case brought by my friends family and other famlies of patients. Now the current home she is in is under investigation because my friends daughter (who cant do anything for herself at all) was raped. Another member of staff walked in on one of the male carers sexually abusing her and they believe its been going on for months. Despite case conferences, police involvment and a full investigation, my work collegues family visited the home a few weeks back and found Donna sitting facing a wall with her urine bag so full it had burst all over the floor which ment she had been left sitting like that alone for hours and bad bruising on her arms. To get her into another home is almost impossible because of the level of care she needs and the lack of homes that can offer that.

I remember seeing some young guy everytime we went to Hatta to stay on our friends farm. He had a white tiger cub that used to have its head hanging out the window of the guy's range rover as he drove along. My ex local partner used to always say "I hope that thing eats him one day, that will teach him to be flash, instead of getting a persian".

Do you know I think you are right with just using the conditioner. I have found in the past that the nits are resistant to the treatments no matter what they say on the box. But I feel then that I am a bad mother by not dosing my boys with something that comes in a box that swears all sorts of wonders and no nits by the morning. I have combed and comed using the conditioner as I know from experience that if you miss a few it is back to square 1. We went two years without a nit until now. I could cry. Conditioner and the Nitty Gritty Comb is the way to go. My daughter hates being combed but I make a game of it, telling her we will find the captain first and then give each nit we find a name like private fat butt, she can sit for ages in the bath while I shout out "Oh look I have captured Captains Grandmother haha.

I just use conditioner and comb. Never found any on me but I have been dying my hair since I was 13 and I am told they do not like processed hair. I have tried all the nit treatments on my daughter and found non of them really work, conditioner each night does the trick for us. Just wish those lazy mums at her school would bother to comb their kids hair because as soon as we are nit free during the holidays, she goes back to school and one week later the critters are back.

I cant believe its 2011 and UAE internet is still as slow as ever. When we were in UAE visiting the family in April I asked my sister-in-law if they had a monkey out the back turning a handle to operate the wireless internet. We got bursts of activity when the web page would load in 3 mins, but one morning it took me over an hour to log into my online banking. I took my laptop so I could create 3D art and upload it onto my website for clients but gave up after the second day there. Is there a reason why its so slow most of the time or does it depend on what package you have?

Slimming World is great, the food is delicious and you can still have a daily treat like a glass or two of wine or chocolate. It teaches you to eat healthy for the rest of your life and is not a fad quick fix, pile it all back on after diet. I am on it and have lost 12 pounds now since starting (just finishing my second week). You can try out their free 7 day menu online. I have sent some of the girls on EW some PDF info files and menus to get them started if you would like them also. Wow thats a huge weight loss in 2 weeks! I would appreciate the pdf files as well. Thank you [email protected] Will email them out when I am home from work today.

I just bought a condenser dryer after my vented one caught fire while on a dry session. I LOVE my condenser, it is economical as my monthly elec bill has gone down since I started using it (Im in UK though). It dries clothes perfectly everything from ready to iron to cupboard dry, things are easy to iron afterwards and you will be suprised how much water it collects in the dry cycle (you empty it after each session). I wish I had bought one ages ago as my vent dryer used to make the kitchen feel damp even with the hose going out the window.

Terrible and made even worse by the fact the mother is injecting it herself into the child and she has no medical background. Have you noticed on shows such as Toddlers and Tiara's that most of the pageant mums look like overweight, scruffy slobs, its as though they are living their dream through their child.

Sadly UK has adopted the American attitude of Sue for anything. This woman is a disgrace and I hope her case gets thrown out. I sometimes work alongside social services, they have a tough job, blamed if they do, blamed if they dont. This woman was to blame for being a poor parent, she chose drugs instead of properly parenting her child. If she wins, bet the money goes straight up her nose or in a vein. Just yesterday one of our chavy tenants came into our office carrying 3 full bags of sainsburys shopping in each hand tottering in on a pair of sky scraper heels to get a form to sue the council because she claims she has put her hip and back out tripping on a paving slab the day before and is in pain 24/7 and can hardly move or do anything. My collegue and I had to fight back the laughter as we handed over the form at the cheek of the woman because she looked just fine to us in those ebay faux louboutins and her 6 huge bags of shopping, she even bent over quick as lightning to pick up the pack of tabacco that fell out her pocket. <em>edited by imanesmama on 14/05/2011</em>

Maybe they do a lot of online work outside of UAE or do things for people they know. I ran an online art/media business for a couple of years without a license after my partner and I sold our salon and restaurant. All my clients were from USA and living in USA. Gulf News even wrote an article on my work which was in their Friday magazine complete with pic and I was never investigated and never told it was wrong. Late partner was an ex minister of labour and he said what I was doing was fine and no need to make a trade license as it was a hobby that turned into people asking me to do things for money or buy the work I had online. I would not report her, if its wrong she will get caught eventually and the authorities will deal with it the correct way.

I have not had it done but my work collegue had it done in spain a few months back on her eyebrows. It looked too dark as she is very fair but after a week or two faded to a really good shade, she just went to spain again this weekend and had them topped up (had it done over two procedures), again slightly dark but within a week will fade to the correct shade. So if you do have it done do not be alarmed if they look darker than you intended them to be as they will fade.

Dr Khan is great, had a few clients in my salon who had lipo and other work done by him. I actually met him after I referred a client to him, we had a meeting together about possibly refering clients to each other when he was based at Welcare Hospital years ago. I personally have not had lipo done, although would love to (brother-in-law is a plastic surgeon at Rashid Hospital) and I keep telling my brother-in-law to bring his equipment home each time I am in UAE and re-sculpt me while I bite on a wooden spoon lol. From clients I had in the salon who had lipo done, they seemed to get over the bruising quite quickly, I actually removed the tiny stitches on one who had it done in France and the scars were so tiny you could hardly see them about 6 week post lipo (from the tiny incisions they make).

No you can not claim child benefit if you and the child are outside UK. The only exceptions are if you are out for less than 52 weeks because a close member of your family is ill and you are looking after them or if you work in one country but you live in a different country, you're a Crown Servant posted overseas or you're posted to work in another European Economic Area (EEA) country.

I also suffer with this, sleek glossy hair turning into a greasy sticky lifeless mess for no apparent reason. No babies invovled and hormones stable. Seems to kick in when the humidity rises here and as Ismanesmama advised, mint based shampoos definately help. Sounds bizarre but washing once in a while with plain old fairy liquid (my hairdresser recommended it!!) works as it's a plain and simple detergent with no additives and strips the hair of any unecessary built up grease or chemicals in the hair. Note to self: leave fairy liquid in the bathroom for tmrw as my hair is rank right now!! My father who is 72 (still goes nightclubbing and wears speedo's while riding around on his racer bike) swears by fairy washing up liquid, washed his hair for years with it and still has a luxurious head of hair.

Greasy hair is due to a build-up of natural secretion's ( from glands in the scalp called sebaceous glands). The sebum passes into the hair follicle and spreads upwards and over the hair shaft. It is not absorbed into the shaft hence your hair looks lanky and lifeless. You need a shampoo such as MOP Basil Mint Shampoo, this gently removes oil from the hair without overstimulating the sebaceous glands or visit a salon and purchase something from their professional haircare range. Sadly supermarket shampoos often contain ingrediants that over time cause problems to the hair. One particular shampoo (I cant for the life of me remember the name) that used to promise soft beautiful locks, achieved that by putting chicken fat into their forumula and another used silicon which caused water to get trapped in the hair shaft causing mould (of course you can not see it but it can cause colours and chemical treatments not to take properly). You will also find many who have oily hair also have dandruff due to overactive oil glands around the roots of the hair. This overactivity causes the natural shedding process to speed up, causing dandruff.

Brighton College in Brighton East Sussex is an excellant day and boarding school. It is just 5 mins from where I live and the reputation is excellant. Know quite a few who attended there and their children now attend. There are many international students there and children who's parents work overseas. http://www.brightoncollege.org.uk/ I used to swim there as a child as our neighbour was the headmaster when it was a boys only school, now it is mixed. Its one of Englands leading private schools. My nephew attended Eton College as a border and loved it http://www.etoncollege.com edited by imanesmama on 10/05/2011 <em>edited by imanesmama on 10/05/2011</em>

Im an old mum, wel I think I am lol Im 45 this year and my daughter is 7. I am told I dont look my age at all and I hope thats true. I find I have less patience now than when I was younger though. Interesting. I was 39 when my one and only was born, and I remember the paediatrician saying to me that I had enormous patience with my child because I was keeping her amused when she was unhappy about a vaccination and didn't slap her when she cried. I think I may have come from a different background than many of the other children this paediatrician treated.. Gosh I cant imagine slapping my child if she cried while being vacinated. Although in my job (Social Housing) I see some terrible parenting skills, it would make you shudder.

Thanks, imanesmama . seems I need to visit a dermatologist! Hopefully it is mild, and not sever! Also gotta try this Ultra Calming Cleanser Yes definatly visit a dermatologist. I diagnosed myself but still went for a second opinion in case I made a wrong diagnosis. Sometimes other factors can cause redness such as stressed skin. Oh yea, that's me! I knew it has something to do with stress. My skin is not fair, and I haven't had anybody in close family who has experienced rosacea. No one in my family has rosacea either. Stress over time can really cause havoc with the body. About a year after I returned to the UK after the breakup of my marraige I ended up with rosacea, excema in my ears, little bit of psorisis at lower back of my head and a hiatus hernia (gosh I sound like im a knackerd old dear), all most likely caused by stress so my doctor says. Hernia mended itself so it seems as have no probs, but the other things still remain.

Slimming world spaghetti and meatballs! Snap! I'm having the same - no syns so eat as much as you like :) Can anyone explain the basics of slimming world to me. I have tried reading online and I get the red/green days...red being protein and green being veg? What is a syn and how many do you get and what about the healthy extras, how many of those do you get in a day? Sorry, sounds like a wonderful plan but I just don't understand it. I get confused by red and green days, hence using their new program of extra easy. You are allowed as much free and super free foods as you like (salad, fruit, veg, meat, fish, poultry etc), 1 portion from Group A of the healthy options (milk or cheese) and 1 portion from Group B of the Healthy Options (Bread, Cereal, Cereal Bars, Crispbreads, Dried and canned fruit, Oil and Soups), if you want more than you allocated portion of Healthy Options you can have them but you deduct them from your daily Syns amount. You can choose to have between 5 and 15 syns per day. I always have a curly wurly bar after dinner (6 syns) and the remaining syns I use up on extra bread, milk, using ketchup on my slimming world chips etc). So when you make up your own menus, you write down all the ingrediants, cross off the ones which are free, then cross off what is your healthy option allowance and what is left you work out the syn value and deduct it from your daily syn allowance. Sounds difficult but within a few days you get the hang of it and its so easy.

The books totally confused me, however I joined online and its been great. I follow the Extra Easy program which is red and green days mixed. I open my food dairy each day and add all the things I will be eating and it lets you see if your eating too much or had too many syns. Takes the pain out of it totally. I have lost 8 pounds this week (my first week on it). I also bought the book 100 extra easy days £3.50, it gives 100 days of menus so you do not have to think what to eat. I am diabetic although no insulin issues really and I find it is keeping my sugar levels great. You have potatos, but you can have as many or few as you like, or you could choose something else instead as all veg is free food. edited by imanesmama on 08/05/2011 8 pounds in a week? That sounds OK to me! Can I join online from here? And where can I get that book from? I know it sounds ridiculously lazy but I'm running around after a toddler and pregnant so I need it to be as easy as possible. I want to be slim with no effort, in other words! :D I am not sure about UAE as its not one of the countries listed on their website. However you could contact them and see or just register yourself at your homeland address. I bought the book online from them although they might not ship to UAE. I do have the PDF files I downloaded from them and a copy of the food diary I can email you with instructions, so you can just write down what your eating on it and make sure your not going over your limits. If you give me a few days I can write down in simple terms how it works so you can try plus a few weeks of menu's to make it easier. Just pop me an email at I find it easy and I work full time, and have a 7 year old who is not an easy child, but I found if I set out my menu for the week I can whip the meals up in no time. Today I had turkey bacon sandwich for Breakfast, Seafood Omlette for lunch and Chicken Kiev (you slit a chicken breast, stuffed with 3 dairylea extra light cheese triangles mixed with herbs and garlic and wrap it in bacon or turkey bacon). edited by imanesmama on 08/05/2011 edited by imanesmama on 08/05/2011 <em>edited by imanesmama on 08/05/2011</em>

I want to do Slimming World but I read the book and it looked like such hard work :(, and I have the odd insulin issue so I'm not sure eating a shedload of potatoes will work for me! imanesmama would you recomend a dermologica facial for spotty teenage skin? No acne just red spots and loads of bumps under the skin. Yes I would recomend a facial for teen skin. Its the perfect age to start getting teens interested in taking care of their skin. Since I owned my salon Dermalogica has added so many new products. They now have a new range for teenagers called Clean Start which consists of cleansers, scrubs, spot treatments and skin protectors ie: moisterizers with built in sun factor. Google Dermalogica clean start and you can see the range. Teens with spots need to try gentle exfoliation each day, as spots and blackheads are often caused by a buildup of dead skin cells that block the pores. By gentle exfoliation (with a good brand not something like those harsh scrubs in the supermarket) you can improve skin prone to breakouts. <em>edited by imanesmama on 08/05/2011</em>

Thanks everyone for sharing. Anyone used [url=redness relief'>http://dermalogica.com/us/html/products/redness-relief-spf20-137.html?type=skin_concern&cat=sensitivity+or+redness[/url'> from Dermalogica? Yes, I used it for quite a few years and loved it, perfect base for my makeup. I have now switched to Cliniques redness solutions cream only because with a busy working and home life its easier for me to pop into boots and get my skin care rather then trying to find a salon nearby with everything in stock. It does not remove the redness completely, it just calms it down and helps to hide the redness so its not so prominent. BTW Dermalogica's Ultra Calming Cleanser is perfect for those with Rosacea, its so gentle on the skin and aids in keeping the redness flareups at bay. I always know when a cleanser is too harsh on my skin because I come out of the bathroom with red blotches. <em>edited by imanesmama on 08/05/2011</em>

You will not regret having a Dermalogica facial, they are fantastic. As I have mentioned before in threads on here, it was the product of choice for the salon I owned in the later 1990's and the results on clients skin especially clients with problems such as acne, severe dehydration etc was great.

I use Clinique's Repairwear Lift SPF 15 Firming Day Cream and Repairwear Lift Firming Night Cream which I alternate with Super Defence SPF25 Age Defence Day Cream and Super Rescue Antioxidant Night Moisturizer depending on the climate and whether my skin is stressed. I am an avid skin care fan (am a trained skin care therapist) and have looked after my skin since I was about 12 years old, I am almost 45 now and have virtually no wrinkles thanks to my mum always nagging on the importance of good sun protection.

I have rosacea, its kind of like a butterfly pattern (on cheeks and forehead) and flares up more when in the sun and stressed. I use a medicated cream from my doctor called Roszex (Metronidazole) which really helps to improve the condition. I also use cliniques redness solutions cream (green colour) under my makeup when I am looking a tad flushed. If you have facials I would advise not to have steaming performed during it as this can flare it up. Go see a dermatologist to confirm it is actually rosacea. This is supposed to be a great product like for rosacea, however I have not tried it yet as my rosacea seems to be under control at the moment http://rosaceacare.com <em>edited by imanesmama on 08/05/2011</em>

So how many of you fight over the way the children are brought up?! According to DH, I spoil our children. And that is the main reason of our fights (everytime DS decides to throw a tantrum)! We do occasionally. My daughter is his step-daughter and she totally adores him. However when we met he soon realised I spoilt her in everyway possible way (my mistake as I was trying to make up for her having a useless father) and she now has a few behaviour problems towards me only. We tend to argue when I give in to her demands, he feels I should put my foot down and say NO. However if he has told her something and said No, I will not go behind him and say yes. The arguments (not that often) occur when he sees me just go out and buy her a bike or something for no reason or promise her a materialistic reward to get her to behave (I am trying to control this with his help).

Our shouting matches are normally disagreements about something we are discussing on the news or if I have let my daughter have her own way (she was dreadfully spoilt before I met and married him 2 years ago), those are the only two things to be honest that causes fire in the house and he is always the argument starter. Within 5 mins of a shouting match he ALWAYS comes and apologises both to me and my daughter (on the very rare occasions she may have caught the tale end of our disagreement). I never hold a grudge as am too much of a softy so within 5 mins its all over, so I never sulk to be honest.

I am type 2 but fortunatly I do not need injections I take metaformin instead as do my work collegues who also have type 2. Is your type 2 quite severe? as I do not know anyone with type 2 who has been prescribed injections, all are on some form of tablet. I really dont understand quite well why Metaformin(glucophage) isn't working alone for me, so My Doc prescribed Bayetta which is not an Insulin ....I am exercising + watching very much what I am eating yet the BS readings is awful:( Im sorry your having such problems. Alhamdulillah since I was diagnosed in 2007 I managed it with diet, then things started getting a little worse (basically because I was being naughty) so they put me on the tablets, but my sugars right now are fab even when I forget to take my meds. I hope you can find something that is able to get your sugars back on track, maybe ask if you can try the other medication some of the posters have mentioned. You are lucky Mashallah, who is your doctor? I do not have a doctor in UAE as we are in the UK but are coming back next year. I am also going to have to find a good diabetic doctor when we come back.
