Origins sell fantastic mattresses that are so super comfy, I bought mine from them and it was only 2,600 for a 180 x 200 and 2,890 for 200 x 200. Check out their website as they also sell awesome sofas. www.originssofas.com I hope this helps!

Hi there, I was in a similar position to you. I lived in Dubai for 6 years and moved to Qatar 2 months ago! I don’t have a child so I will leave that side of things for someone else to advise you on but one thing I have noticed is that the network and support for Mums with young children here is amazing! Check out Doha mums, it looks fantastic and if I had a 2.5yr old son I would not be concerned at all about that aspect so be reassured and I am sure you will make loads of friends through that. Doha is very different from Dubai but the slower pace of life isn’t a bad thing and Dubai is so close for a fun weekend now and then! With regards to furniture, it depends what you have and where you will be staying but furniture here is awful unless you want to buy from The One and then you will pay The One prices. There is one company here though called Origins Sofas who were my saving grace when I moved here. They are very much a word and mouth blessing and fortunately I found them shortly after getting here. They are a company that worked primarily on projects but when friends started to ask them to provide their sofas and mattresses as a one off they started to cater for the likes of you and me and thank goodness they did. As it happens, after I bought my sofa and mattress from them, I have started to work for them and can’t sing their praises enough. Their sofas are fab, they are European style from contemporary to traditional, L shape to Arm chairs and the choice of fabrics are also great. They also sell hotel standard mattresses which are also hard to find here and the prices for both the sofas and mattresses are great. Maybe even slightly cheaper than in Dubai but fantastic quality. If you want to check them out, their website is www.originssofas.com. I am also currently in contact with a removal company for a few signature pieces and boxes that we are bringing over from Dubai so I can also send you their details if you want to get a quote for your personal items. Oh and in answer to where should you live, we live on the pearl as it is modern and great to be on the water with a great view of the marina with the boats. Also you can walk around the marina and there are several restaurants that serve alcohol which is brilliant and all the towers have pools and gyms like they do in Dubai which is great for the children. I’m sure there are some people that would say it is better to have a villa with a child but having come from Dubai we wanted as much normality and comfort as possible so that we wouldn’t get put off Qatar before we started. The supermarkets here are great and there are also some great malls. Everywhere also seems so much closer together. Anyway, I hope this helps and let me know when you are coming incase I can be of any more help. Natalie Hi ladies , I shall be moving to join my husband who just moved to Doha on work last month . Needless to say i am very speculative of how we will adjust to a new place with our 2.5 yr old son . I couldnt think of a better place to ask for some suggestions . 1. Which is the best area to live in , in terms of being comfortable .For eg...close to hospital, pharmacy, beauty salon and most importantly a grocery store ;) 2. I need to put my son in a nursery now . He will turn 3 in Oct .So what are the options and what is the process ? Do i need to seek admissions for KG1 now ? 3. What are the general documents required if i need to join work ? I will be leaving a good job in Dxb but you gotta do what you gotta do . So i'd like to be prepared . It would be great if you can suggest some good job sites and networks . 4. Should i move all my furniture or is it better to buy stuff there ? 5. How difficult or easy is it to get a babysitter /maid ? Should i bring one along or should i scout for one from a local agency ? I dont have one at the moment since the babysitting service is good out here . 5. Lastly in terms of quality of life and things to do ..... Ive had a good time in Dxb for the 5 yrs that i was here . Not a party person but will miss the beaches , good food and great friends . Sorry if this was too long ...;)

Hi Marycatherine, I am looking for crockery etc and would love to know which restaurant supplier you use. Please can you tell me the name and address or contact number if you have it so I can go and check it out. Thank you very much. I would say only bring the stuff you mention if you're getting a shipping allowance. Check what it would cost to ship and decide accordingly. I buy my kitchen stuff from a restaurant supply store where you can buy 1 plate or 32 if that's the number you want. However, it's 99% all white dinnerware - but a wide variety of shapes and sizes. They carry serving ware, cutlery, kitchen utensils etc. at fairly reasonable prices and I always get a 10% discount on my purchases (is it a bad sign when the sales staff all recognize and greet you at the kitchen supply store????) There are lots of cheap and cheerful sets at hypermarkets and Carrefour has a cutlery section where you can buy the exact number of forks, knives, spoons you need or want. Can't advise on the schooling issue. Good luck.

I have just moved into a 2 bedroom apartment in the Pearl and need to furnish it. We have come from Dubai where there are many options and styles available to you, however, I am learning very fast that there are not many places to buy furniture here in Doha. If anyone is moving on and selling furniture or can recommend decent places to find/buy furniture here, please can they let me know! Thank you very much. NG.
