I don't usually reply to threads but this one made me so sad and angry that I just had too. A few years ago my oldest child went for her FS1 assessment at a well known school. I had no idea what to expect and had not prepared her as I thought that they would just watch her playing and have a light hearted chat with her. She knew some numbers and some letters but not all and was naturally a little shy at that stage. The teacher insisted i leave imediately and wouldn't let me prompt her at all (She was 3 for heavens sake!). I later found out that she had "failed" the assessment. Shortly after she was assessed by another well know school. This time the teacher encouraged the parents to stay and play with the children and she discretely listened in. It was much more relaxed and as my daughter was playing with me she was happy to chat and play and didn't even realise that the teacher was listening. She passed the assessment and is still at this school where she is one of the brightest in her year. The other school missed out because they failed to understand that children are just that 'children'. Don't be upset, I'm sure you will find a better school who will nurture your child not judge him. Many of us have been there. Assessments at 3 years old are just ridiculous! edited by Chula on 14/06/2012

Thank you for replying. I haven't been to see that one. I'll put it on my list! Any feedback on any of the others?

Hi Muu, I have three children under the age of 5 with the youngest just 9 months old. I have flown alone with all my children as babies but i was really dreading my latest 7 hour flight as it was my first time flying alone with all three. I couldn't book a night flight as i couldn't risk my 3 and5 year old being asleep on landing. I needed them to walk through the airport. I booked a bulk head/bassinet seat but as my baby was too big to use the bassinet i took advantage of the extra floor space by putting a blanket on the floor for my baby to play on. My baby is crawling which has to be the worst time to travel on an airoplane and with two other children to look after i almost cancelled my holiday but in the end it wasn't half as bad as i expected and definately worth the effort. Just be prepared with plenty of food, toys, diapers etc and you will be fine! Good luck!

Hi Cleo4e, I've been here 10 years and had three babies born here. When i first arrived i drank the tap water and i believe it was fine but these days i prefer to drink bottled water and i have the big gallon bottles delivered. I use the tap water for cooking and tea and coffee but i have always used the small bottles of water for my babies until they are at least one year old. I usually use Aquafina or Arwa as i think the have the lowest sodium content. I don't think there is actually anything wrong with the tap water but it can be affected by how clean or dirty your tank and pipes are so i never risked it. I hope this helps.

Hi Mummyto3, I am also a mummy to three and living in Umm Suquiem. I was a little concerned about the drive before she started but it is fine as long as you give yourself enough time. We usually leave about 7.10am. It doesn't take that long to get there but parking can be difficult so I always set off early. I love the school and have been very happy with my daughters progress and the support she has been given. I would say that they are of a very high standard. We were offered places at two schools very close to us but so many people recommended DESS that we decided to send her there and we have not been disappointed. It's definately worth the drive. Good luck with you little one starting in september. I'm sure they will be very happy there. edited by Chula on 03/04/2011

Hello Ladies, My DD1 is in Reception and DD2 will start Reception(Foundation 2) in september. For reception children they do staggered entry. My DD went 2 hours a day for the first week. Then 8am-12.30pm for the following four weeks and then 8am-2.15pm for the rest of the year. From Year 1 upwards all children are at school from 8am-2.30pm. I hope this helps. See you both in September(Not that i'll know who you are, lol)

Hi Brown eyed girl, My nephew will be here on holiday for a month soon. He is 3.5 years old. Would Jebel Ali Play group be suitable for him or is it mainly younger kids. Also do we just go along or do you need to register or something first. Which church is it in? Thanks
