Thanks everyone... Just been to Lulu though and he says he can't cut this type of key and to try Satwa. Does anyone know where shouts in Satwa The key places are! At over 5 months pregnant I don't fancy trekking around there!

As you can see from my amount of posts I don't comment that often but this is turning into such a silly argument that I feel the need to. Surely the whole point is that regardless of whether you are in a car, on a bike, riding a motorbike, walking, etc, it is about common sense, consideration for the other users on the road and avoiding any form of collision. Of course you need to be aware of the potential implications of an accident from a legal perspective but should you not be more concerned about not taking the life of another human being or risking your own! I for one think that the way that all types of people use the roads is beyond a joke and think that a little common courtesy and consideration would make a world of difference. Oh and FYI I do live in the Ranches.

Actually the DIFC employment law doesn't stipulate whether it is calendar days or business days, in my experience they have calculated it on calendar days though. Most of the DIFC employment law is written on a calendar day basis.

hokeypokey, thanks for the info. Like you said it all looked to be legitimately part of the well know Enterprise group, which is exactly why we went with them. Ironically we only ever use well known companies for things like this so as to not be ripped off! Lesson learned - don't assume as they have the same name, logo, etc, they are the same company (or franchise) I guess.

Well that explains why they are not picking up the phone then. We have been trying to contact them to get our deposit back too! Same thing happened to us, we needed a car delivered to the house at the last minute, they said we needed to pay the deposit in cash (ours was 2000AED though!) and we would have it back 21 days after. We assumed that because it was Enterprise and we had a receipt it was legitimate.... guess we won't be seeing our cash again then! Excuse the language but b*****ds

We recently moved from Al Reem 1 to Al Reem 3 and when we were looking the cheapest 2e we found with a lake view was 170k. I am sure you have already spoken to them but both times we have moved in the Ranches we found House Hunters to be the best in terms of selection and service.

I live in Al Reem 3 and it only takes me 2 and a half minutes by car to get to the community centre or main gate, so not exactly a far distance. It is walkable in the nice weather to the community centre. I run and I know for example that it is only 2 miles from my house to the golf club, so in theory in good weather even that is walkable. We have a dog and one of the things I like about Al Reem is being able to walk around the lake with her. Also just be aware that there are differences in the layout of the Al Reem and Alma villas, we looked at a 2e in Alma and personally preferred the layout in the 2e in Al Reem. Also there are differences even between the villas from one Al Reem to the next, we were previously in Al Reem 1 and the layout downstairs is completely different to our current villa - even though they are both a 2e. They are also doing building work near to Alma, allegedly it is further villas, which is something to be aware of depending where in Alma the villa is located in relation to the works. <em>edited by Sarah80 on 19/06/2012</em>

We used posh paws for our furbaby (an American Cocker Spaniel puppy) for two weekend stays and she was fine. We then sent her there for a week whilst we are in the UK and will never ever send her there again! She came back a complete mess! They were three hours late dropping her off and when they arrived the driver told me I had to go and get her from the car as they couldn't get her out. I went and she was cowering behind the seat and wouldn't even come to me. She had an incredibly upset stomach and cried in a corner constantly for 2 days! She was traumatised. She wouldn't come to us, was sick and just cried and cried. Totally not like her at all. My husband emailed them to tell them that we wouldn't be putting her there again due to the state she was in and it took 10 days to get a response, which was basically she was fine when she was here and my best worker took care of her! No apology nothing! If that is a sign of the best care then I hate to think what the other dogs and cats must come back like. we now use Urban Tails and apart from the high prices I have nothing but good things to say about them.

Just to also say that the pup may not be as stressed out as it seems.... our cocker is a complete cry baby and cries if you just go into the toilet for 30 seconds!!! They love attention and really are the shadow of their owners. Dettox?!?! Gosh I hope not! It should be an actual puppy shampoo and at 8 weeks the poor thing just wants lots of love and attention!!!

We have a one year old American Cocker Spaniel and due to the length of their coat and the tendancy for them to get dirty quickly you actually will be bathing them more frequently then once every two months. For a start our puppy is groomed every 4 weeks as otherwise her fur would be too long for the climate here, and then she gets bathed every other weekend. They should also be brushing the coat daily and having a more vigorous groom weekly (especially to check their ears and eyes). Here is a link to the cocker spaniel club which actually says you can wash them as often as you need to as long as you use the right shampoo http://www.thecockerspanielclub.co.uk/cocker_faq.htm That said as a small puppy our dog was bathed more like every 3 weeks.

Congratulations on the new addition to your family ;) If she hasn't had all of her injections yet then you really shouldn't be socialising her with other dogs, even if they come to your house rather than you taking her out.

Its fine Greenish I already knew that that was the response i was going to get and haven't taken it personally at all - just wanted to give my account of what actually happened and also to say how surprised I was at the relationship Animal World has with Jumeirah Veterinary Clinic (you would certainly never guess it by seeing the shop!) :) I am not trying to support Animal World and I do think it is unethical and supports the industry, etc, etc, but I have my puppy who we adore and would not change her for the world. As I said though if and when we do add to our furbaby brood I would find an ethical breeder or adopt. I agree with everything you have written! Except where you say if unethical breeding ceased there would be no need for shelters.... people will always take pets on not knowing/understanding the responsibility and unfortunately horrible people will still dump them! So regardless of ethical versus non ethical breeders there will sadly always be a need for shelters.

I totally agree with you and I wish I could convince my husband to get another dog (or even 2).... would definitely get them from K9 friends this time and I even managed to convince my company to sponsor one of their kennels. My dog in the UK (who sadly died 6 years ago now) was a border collie cross we rescued from Battersea Dogs Home... she was born with cateracts and was completely crazy but a lovely dog.

OK so I am going to get shot down for this but we actually bought our puppy from Animal World. My heart melted when I saw her and I didn't want to leave her there. She is now a year old and we have had no health issues with her whatsoever, so whilst I do agree it is not an ethical way to make an addition to your family it isn't true to say that all puppies from pet stores will be riddled with health issues. She wasn't from Thailand she was from Holland just for clarification (again I do know about puppy farms, etc, and I know that by buying her we are keeping them in business but I couldn't leave her in the cage!). One thing I do want to say is that whilst Animal World does seem like a pithole they actually have been working with Jumeirah Veterinary Clinic for many years. When you purchase a pet from them you can take them for a full check up at Jumeirah VC at Animal Worlds expense. Dr Michela actually told us that whilst she doesnt support pet shops selling animals they actually do medically take good care of them. Again before everyone jumps at me I am not saying that buying a pet from them or any other shop is the right thing to do I am just giving my honest account of my experience! When we make any more additions to our family we would definitely either adopt from an anmial shelter or seek out an ethical breeder.

We used Posh Paws on three occasions and had collection and delivery issues every time, on her last stay there she came back in a very poor state (I won't go into details on here) and subsequently we cancelled her future stays there. We have now used Urban Tails twice and are delighted with their facilities and the care she receives, it is slightly more expensive but the peace of mind is totally worth it. Just to add though that Urban Tails also don't allow drop offs and collections on Friday's so if you want just the Friday nights stay you have to drop them there on Thursday and pay for two nights.

Maybe my view is slightly different because I don't have children and I work full time but I don't think I know anyone that has a full time job here and is home at 5.30pm. I don't think it is a case of making work a greater priority but if you know you are supporting your wife and young family then there is a pressure to put in the hours. I find in Dubai that people expect you to be able to work on weekends or into the evening, etc, especially depending which industry you are in.

Excellent post arohadxb and far better than my ramblings :) Lady Luck it does make me laugh that on this thread you are so self righteous and opinionated on the fact that women should be at home with their children and not work and on the meanings of EW Usernames you comment about whether being a Breast Feeding Counsellor is a real job....surely someone helping women to breast feed succesfully would be something you would endorse or are you more concerned about whether she is at home with her children?

Gatta Matta everyone is entitled to an opinion and it is one of those subjects in life that will always divide people but when you make statements such as: "Well your hardly going to say my children suffered emotionally because I choose to chase my own egotistical desires to be recognized as a successful business woman rather than meet their everyday needs." in relation to a woman choosing to work do you not think that people are bound to react vehemently?

Wow... Lady Luck thank you for reminding me why I rarely comment on this forum! Who exactly are you to judge peoples lifestyles and work situations?!? Myself and DH will in the near future start to try to have a family and when we are fortunate to have a child (if we are) then I will most definitely be going back to work afterwards.... probably when our baby is 3 months old as sadly that is the state of the maternity system in this country. I am sure that at first I will be racked with guilt but quite frankly I believe that us being able to provide for our child in the here and now and the future is far more important than losing my salary which is higher than that of my husbands some months! I would try to negotiate slightly shorter working days or maybe go down to four days a week. So come on Lady Luck judge me......

Kind of comforting we are not the only ones I guess but still it is a ridiculous amount to pay. I thought most of our cost would be water but it is the electricity and apart from the ac we don't consume that much so I can only think that the ac units are not running as effectively as they could. KellsBells ours are on auto and only switch on when the room gets below a certain temperature.... not sure how we set it that way but the fan comes on and off! We still have a crazy bill though and I think it is because there are 5 external doors in the downstairs of the house which all allow heat and humidity through the seals of them. I'm just hoping they drop drastically when the cooler weather comes and we can switch the AC off otherwise we have an electricity consuming gremlin in the house - perhaps DEWA will claim the dog goes round switching all the lights on whilst we are out! :)

Hi blueindigoblue, That package is similar to my husbands and we don't have any children (just a child replacement puppy). I also work full time and have a monthly salary of 30,000aed. I think we would struggle to live on your package without children let alone with if I am honest. We do have a good lifestyle and we manage to save some every month but even removing the savings and cutting down I am not sure the below package alone would cover us.

I agree with Amelia - we were in JBR for 4 years (just moved to Arabian Ranches last month as we wanted more room and a garden for our puppy). We loved living in JB|R as there is so much happening down there and is great for when you are first getting to know Dubai. Some people complain about the noise but I think that is if you are on the main thoroughfare as we were one row back (still with full seaview) and never heard any traffic noise at all.

Caroly did you have any luck in the end? We moved into a villa in the Ranches last weekend and the previous tennants ripped out the du telephone cabling in the living room to install a satellite dish. Du say they don't do the cabling its up to Emar, Emar say to ring Emril and Emril say they don't do the cabling and to call Du.... viscious circle! Desperate to get our TV back up and running downstairs!

I'm glad that there have been some positive comments on Posh Paws that have been added as I was beginning to panic. Our 4.5 month old American Cocker Spaniel (or child replacement if you prefer) is due to be collected on Thursday morning to spend the weekend there whilst we are at Emirates Palace celebrating our 1st wedding anniversary.... was tempted to smuggle her in my bag but don't think E.P. would be too impressed with her running around :)

I have been horseriding since I was 8 years old and had my own horse from the age of 11 to 18 years old - so I believe I am a "horsey" person. I HATE the Grand National. I am aware that horses can die in all circumstances and that some of them are tragic accidents, one of my close friends and her horse were killed whilst merely walking down a country lane. Do I think all forms of events (dressage, show jumping, eventing, horse racing, etc) should be banned? NO. However, do I think that more can be done to make the Grand National safer than it currently is and reduce the number of deaths? YES! I personally don't like steeplechase forms of horse racing because the odds of fatalities occuring is higher than a flat race and I therefore choose to not watch the race and never will unless they improve the conditions. When the weather has been dry in the UK (which for the last 2 years in the lead up to the race it has) it is one of the fastest steeplechases due to the condition of the track and this in turn leads to even more accidents occuring. It is notorious for having some of the most dangerous fences on the race circuit and it is time to improve these conditions.

I totally agree with miss balamory..... 33 horses have died in the past 11 years running the main race, not including the pre-races the day before. You're obviously entitled to your opinion but don't think an average of 3 horses dying per Grand National is "Bla bla, rubbish"

DC2DXB, Just to let you know that I took our American Cocker Spaniel to Snoopy Pets on Friday and they did a wonderful job grooming her. She came out looking and smelling beautiful and they did the perfect Standard Cocker cut. I would definitely recommend them. I have to say that the area was slightly off putting as they have loads of road works and to park the lady had to come out and let us in to a rather grubby car park but we left her there for an hour whilst we went to MOE and she was absolutely fine and happy.

Thanks for replying so quickly DC2DXB. I have booked her in for Friday at Snoopy Pets, she is only 14 weeks old so we are doing a gentle introduction to grooming. Thanks for the recommendation as we want to take her somewhere reputable and definitely no where that is going to nick her ear and put her off of grooming for the next 12 years :)

We used a company called Modern Printing to print our wedding invitations, they also supplied the card and paper we needed. http://www.modern.ae/ The contact person I went through was Murali, he is excellent and they use to do all the printing for the old company I worked for. The invitations came out exactly how we wanted them.
