In the week I was up all night with toothache, I sat on my balcony and watched a fella working thru the night and was still working at 10am, I put a large bottle of water in the freezer to get it really nice and cold, handed it to him along with a 100dhs, you should of seen his face, he was speechless. Come on it's not that hard to give a helping hand to the less fortunate. edited by salsB on 03/10/2011 Such a kind & lovely gesture, this poor guy will remember you, not days but for years to come. Bless u for your kind heart. Xx

Hi Ryas, your best route in here is through school nurses or councillors - I know that school nurses have their own support group here and I have a feeling they will be very receptive to any support you can give on mental health issues! Why don't you contact some schools you are interested in working in and get the names/email addresses of the relevant member of staff? I don't recommend going to headteachers in the first instance as you may not get the most helpful reception. PS. Every school here has to have a school nurse on the premises full time - its not like the UK in this regard. Dear Shamat, Thank u so much for your kind response. Your advice is extremely helpful & valuable. I have already started contacting schools and asking to link with their in-house nurses/counsellors. Please wish me luck, and if this work kicks off, it will be thanks to you!! ;)

Try looking in Mafraq, there is a centre being renovated there where you could find work possibly. keep looking, these things always work out when you are least expecting. Like someone else says, have a few CVs and distribute according to the experience highlighted in each one. :) thank you very much for your advice. I will be making a few amendments to my current cv and also create a few more according to the different experience I have. Highly appreciate your help. I don't feel like I'm alone any more. I know I can always run here when I feel lost. Thanks again to everyone...xxxx

Rashid hospital in Dubai has a Psychiatric Unit, not sure of your qualifications etc. But I do know the Director of Nursing there if you are in the mental health nursing field. Would this be of any help?:) :) thank you very much for offering to help, can't believe there are so many nice people out there, unfortunately my experience is more in mh community work and awareness in schools, but I really appreciate your support, I'm already thinking positive. x

Dear Ryas! Just ignore the not so nice comments- many people do come here without a job- you're not alone. It does take more time here to get a job- about 2 - 3 months on average as things do tend to move slower. It may be hard to find a job in your exact field of expertise- if like you say you have other fields of expertise try in those areas. the job market is just waking up again after Ramadan and the summer so you will probably see more jobs appearing- keep checking the jobs section here on EW as well. Make sure you have a few different CVs that are appropriate and more focussed on your other areas of expertise when applying for jobs in those fields. For HR and Training have a look at some of the larger hotel groups like Jumeirah and also Emirates airline too- check out corporate websites as some of them do their recruitment through them instead of using agencies. Agencies are notoriously slow at getting back to you- they are inundated and have also been hit badly by the recession. Really hope this helps and really hope you do find something soon...just keep plugging away and fingers crossed for you :) :):) Thank you ever so much for your kind words of advice and for encouraging me, Its so touching to see so many people going out of their way to help. I wont be giving up in a hurry. ta much edited by ryas on 18/09/2011

Good luck ryas. I wish you all tHe best in finding something suitable. This is a public forum so of course you're going to get opinions whether you ask for them or not, so don't let it get to you. ;) Thanks a lot.

Maybe go to the bigger hospitals and ask them to work with you to give a trial on offering some mental health services. The worst that will happen is they will say no. :)Thank you so much for the advice, I will keep trying the schools and hospitals and continue applying for other jobs too. So many nice people out there who go out of their way to be supportive. Thank you ladies.

It's def needed out here but there are very few services!! It's a cultural thing, it's like going back 30 yrs in UK. There are no support or statutory services to support vulnerable adults or children. Apparently there is a hospital in Abu dhabi that offers inpatient care, community services are non existent like they have in UK. Good luck in your quest - perhaps it might be time to look at how transferrable your skills are already and perhaps do some courses :) thank you so much for your kind words and advice. It really helps when people go out of their way to be so supportive. I have experience in admin, hr, research and was working as a Corporate Trainer until July, however I had to return to the UK due to family illness and therefore had to quit my job. But I will keep looking for employment in another field of my expertise. And thanks again for your advice.

Dear AR, I posted a comment in another strand, as i am in a similar situation to you. here is what i wrote, Hey, Its amazing to see how helpful some ladies are, especially with all the kind advice/suggestions they are offering. Well im in a similar situation, I recently migrated from the UK and I was working in Mental Health training & research, however I have noticed there are NO similar services here and the main focus is psychiatry and counselling I do feel there is a huge gap. If anyone in the related field has the willpower and is proactive enough to create a service (fill this gap) im happy to come on board. take care & God bless I wish you luck in getting your ideal job as i ended up taking a job delivering business training :( and im so miserable, if I have further info I will let you know.
