hello - for September 15 most schools open up their lists on 1st January or thereabouts. Contact the schools you like now to find out when they will accept applications. Some have already finished for summer but the offices are often still open at the start and end of the holidays. If the kids have British passports you will have a pretty good chance at DESS - places are easier to come by at year 4 (for example this year around 20 kids are leaving in year 4 alone) and that would then put you at the top of the list for year 1 as a sibling. They are opening year 7 and 8 from 2015 so it means you can have your kids there longer. I have kids at DESS and we love it but there are lots of good British Curriculum schools. Also have a look at Parkhouse, Doha College, Doha British School and Sherbourne for starters. School places are hard to come by and the process can be frustrating but there are places to be had - you just need to know all the application dates and have all the paperwork you need - the websites are the best place to start. Also, the registrar should be your new best friend at your preferred schools - politely keep in touch with them! Happy to help if you have any other questions.

Hello - there is a little place in Souk Waqif that fixed my leather bag they did it on the spot for me and it was super cheap. Its in the new handicrafts section. Its quite hard to explain where it is so will give you directions from Café Tasse - the Belgian place where all the outdoor cafes are - walk away from the café towards the central section where haagen daaz used to be - carry straight on and on your left are the shops that sell all the old wooden boats etc - on your right there is an alleyway between some shops - there are various trinket shops up here and if you walk to the very end you will enter the handicraft section (there is a sign) - walk around and on the right there is a shop with lots of leather hanging up outside - bags, bullet belts, hats etc - in there just ask and they will fix your bag. Sorry not sure if these directions are any good!

Hi Disa - there is no nursery but there are lots close. Calgary, Apple Tree, Busy Bees are just a few - have a look and go see them to see what you think. You do sometimes wait for maintenance but I think the for the price here the villas are good value. I have friends who pay much more with similar maintenance issues. It doesnt make it right but its just the way it is here. You can befriend the maintenance guys and get things done quickly and also make the manager your new buddy and things do get done even if a little slower than you would like! Good luck with moving I am sure we will meet in the park one evening!

Hi - just to add to this - we also live at BHG10 and there is a new manager who is very good. He always calls back when we call with any issues or questions and everything we have asked for lately has been sorted (new white goods, aircon on its way). We were also told that the whole pool area is being refurbished starting next week including new tiling, shade over the kids pool and a new gym. Obviously can't guarantee that until it actually happens but the manager told us this in person. I definitely agree that the things that make the compound great are the parks, pool, shop and lots of families. We also are all having fibre optic internet installed - not live yet but must mean its coming so another good reason to take a villa here!

Hi - thanks for this info - what docs do you need to register and how much is it? Do you have to pay cash or do they take card? I am thinking I will go there tomorrow and want to go with the right stuff

yes Giant has some nice patterns - various prices. I got deep purple with white spots as a splash mat for kids easel and its only 18.75 a metre. They also had red with spots and lots of other choices - its right at the back with the kitchen stuff.

That is bizarre isn't it - I can only think that they sometimes close and sometimes stay open and I have just been unlucky and caught them on the closed days. It would be great if they do stay open as after school is my favourite time to go anywhere as its generally quiet.

I went there twice on my way home from the school run last term and they closed at 12.45 - I can't remember if they open again at 2pm or 4pm but they definitely did close for some time during the week. The opening times are on the door as i remember I just missed it both times as got there at 1. Maybe give them a call to check - here is their number (and just looked and this page says they open again at 4. http://www.timeoutdoha.com/kids/details/8312-al-rawnaq-stationery

Thank you Shanni - I got a tin in Carrefour which is perfect - I then went to Tavola and wish I has waited as they had some for similar price but a bit better for cakes - never mind - I did a trial and we now have a HUGE cake - have frozen half! I also found that tavola do fondant icing but its 43 QR a kilo which I thought was pricey as I will need 2 - I found a recipe for marshmallow fondant which seems easy so I am going to try that first and if it fails will buy some. Its been quite fun as normally just buy birthday cakes but sick of paying silly prices really! Thanks again for your reply.

Hi Lexiej My daughter joined year one in Feb of this year. We also paid from Term 1 in September even though we were not here. It was definitely worth it and although she was a little nervous she was one of 4 new starters in that class alone who all joined the same week. She was welcomed with open arms and joined just as they started rehearsing for the year group play which was great for her as she loves that kind of thing. Don't worry there are lots of people coming and going and your kids will settle in fine. My daughter loves school and actually wakes us up in the mornings now - we are so pleased with how she has done in her first 2 terms there...good luck!

I have bought this in Carrefour but they don't always have it - its a carrefour own product in packs of 4 or 8 pots - at Villagio C4 you can find it with the kids youghurts or opposite with all the natural stuff. Mega mart also do a really good range of fat free yogs, sour cream etc although its more pricey
