Yes I used Malik Properties a month or so ago when renting my apartment. No issues with them at all, they have an office in Tecom

Hi x0x0, I am from Glasgow and lived there until one month ago!! Happy to help and answer any questions you might have - I know how daunting it is to move to a city you have never visited.

EJC - yip we are delighted but it seems nothing is straightforward! Just worried that something might go wrong and we could loose our deposit if we dont have the visa in place yet!

Still negotiating EJC......and now as things are dragging on I am starting to get cold feet. Dont know if we are rushing in as its the first one we have liked and I think it might be over priced. Also starting to get a wee bit annoyed with the agent as it really doesn't feel like she is on our side or acting for our interests as well as the LLs. But its been so hard to find anything so far, so we might end up just going for it. Can I ask where you live and how the process was for you?

Hi Olwyn, we arrived 2 weeks ago from Glasgow so I know how you will be feeling!! Its a steep learning curve with everything we have tried to do. Go on to www.propertyfinder.ae and dubai.dubizzle.co and search for the areas you like within your budget, then call the agency that is advertising that property. In our experience do not just register with one agency as they wont call you back, or take you seriously until you go out and view something with them. it takes a lot of perseverance and calling round as the customer service here is shocking IMO. You will also find that many of the apartments you see are advertised by numerous agencies. When you phone to ask for a viewing, they will tell you they need to check that the apartment is still available and will call you back....then you dont hear back from them!! Sorry for sounding negative but its just so frustrating. I think the problem is we have quite a small budget ( up to 60k) and so we are just small fry to them! We were looking at The Greens, JLT, Marina and The Green Community. So my tips are - be persistent, call all of the apartments you like the look of, as you may only get to see 10% of what is advertised. And try not to be rushed in to anything or fall for the 'hard sell' a lot of the agents are really pushy. Also I would second the recommendation from EJC regarding Allsop and Allsop - great service. Good luck and let me know if you need me to rant about any other experiences I have had here!! :)

I was there last Friday, it was my first brunch so I can't really compare it to anything, but thought it was lovely. Food great and drinks flowing. Lovely atmosphere I would highly recommend it.

Hi, thanks for all the messages, just one additional question? Clothes for work?? Will be working in an office environment so assume i can't wear flip-flops, I think I will be commuting on the Metro so hard to think in advance what to bring out to wear for work. I wear jackets and trousers every day in Glasgow (and a coat!). What do the working gals wear in Dubai??? Karenl - will be arriving at the end of Aug and I am an East ender! What about you, where in Dubai do you live? Cheers Nic

Thanks for all responses, so happy the advice is to bring my Uggs! And sounds like I should do lots of shopping before I come out - Fab! Minimax 17 - still doing our research into apartments, but leaning towards JLT.
