I know the said organization you are referring to... but no where on their posts have they named any applicant... who told you that the applicants were named? My nephew has screen shots of it.

Well I'd be getting in touch with the organisation and reminding them that naming and shaming on social media in the UAE is classed as slander and not allowed!!!! How is it slander when it actually happened? That is correct Izzy. He did ask- he freely admits that. Others asked too. I guess it's about what is ethical. Can the org choose to cull applicants anyway they like? Yes of course. But to brag about how successful their "test" was is a bit wrong. It is Interesting how the opinions here and views are quite varied. As for my nephew, it was a learning experience for him and he will seek experience elsewhere.

What was the charity? Not a charity. It is a volunteer organisation. And the internship is a paid position

I think the main issue is the complete lack of professionalism- and the posting on social media of how clever there were to put the applicants through a 'test'. As for asking about a stipend- yes you and I know that things are different here in the UAE but in the US and Canada and Australia and I'm sure many other countries, if the word "internship" is used in the job advert then it would be accepted that a small amount to cover expenses would be paid. As for him asking? Well he is young I guess!! But publically naming is wrong and unethical.

May Allah grant Sheikh Khalifa the best of health. Ameen. Inshallah. But what usually does happen in such situations- is their a hierarchy of his replacement? Is it voted on within the family? I am genuinely interested

Well OP based on the large number of families that decided to not return to Star after the Summer, ( heading to other Dubai schools not leaving the uae) I'd say a place for you DD will come up faster than you think. Also noticeable are the parents that were Previously very involved with the school , seem to be the ones kicking Star to the curb in favor of other Dubai schools. Interesting..... Could've coincidence but I'm not so sure That place for yourDD might come up rather soon if this trend continues If you still want to risk sending her there. Strange that you would make this comment last night, when today was the first day of school? Clairvoyant perhaps? Lol no! But parents do catch up at orientation day or in the uniform shop. Conversation does cover 'who's not returning' right along with 'which teacher and who is in your LO class' - it's a normal conversation no ?

I don't have children there myself but have heard positive things from friends with children in both the elementary and high school.

Sounds to me like you've dodged a bullet! If the receptionist of the school (the first person most prospective parents would come in contact with) is speaking so poorly and unprofessionally about the new owners, then maybe that same negative attitude will be shared by teachers, head and so. Sounds like it has the potential to become a toxic environment. Sorry to hear that you don't have a school place. It's such a stressful thing here! I hope there is a seat for your child in a good school on the horizon.

Anyway, in response to your post, you missed nothing- the thread was pulled as normal. I hope you get the answers you are looking for. FWIW, the sale of a school shouldn't necessarily be cause for concern- however the fact that the parents weren't informed would have me seeing red and demanding answers. edited by Vanillacupcakesdxb on 19/06/2013 edited by Vanillacupcakesdxb on 19/06/2013
