Assist AE is licensed by the DED as a 'concierge company' as it says in the full legal name: Assist AE Concierge. Unfortunately the DED does not have an activity code for such a company and therefore one activity code must be chosen for the trade license as it's not possible to put delivery services, businessmen services, tour & travel, transportation, maid services, etc all on one trade license when the company is formed in the mainland. Assist AE was advised by the DED to use the 'delivery services' activity code as it's exactly the same as a competitor's trade license who started their concierge company prior to Assist AE. But the DED understands that concierge services extend beyond only simple deliveries but they did not want to create a new activity code just for us. Concierge companies carry out a vast array of services, but many of them are outsources just like our maid/nanny services. Assist AE does not have the manpower (and also prefers not to get into this line of business) to provide maids/nannys and when clients request this, it is outsourced to companies such as Busy Bees, etc. In cases when the internal team can carry out the task, it is best in order to be able to provide the best customer service because unfortunately when outsourcing it often happens that good customer service is non-existent. There are other competitors of Assist AE who formed their concierge company in freezones in order to avoid this 'grey area' regarding the DED and activity codes, but then at the same time if your company is formed in a freezone then you are only supposed to do business in that same free zone. Which of course is not the case for many companies, including our competitors, in Dubai. Assist AE is starting a brand new school shuttle service which will be launching in September 2013. This service will operate under the brand name Assist AE but will be registered with the DED as a stand-alone new company under a 'transportation license.' This will take place during the summer time, prior to the start of the service (and each parent will be provided with the trade license copy), but only after we gauge the interest of the parents to make sure the service is viable and we will definitely proceed. Emails are already pouring in from interested parents, so most likely this will be taking place soon! If anyone would like to discuss further, I am happy to chat. My details were provided below by one of the lovely ladies; please feel free to contact me any time. Thank you, Zuzana

I also go to Dr. O'Malley and he is really great. I'm super picky when it comes to dentists as my teeth are very sensitive, but he is very caring and tries to make sure he doesn't hurt me, which is all you can ask for in a dentist. You'll be in great hands with him!

You could call Feline Friends, maybe they could help by finding her a foster home or permanent home. Hope she finds a good home soon!

Were you able to find someone for your daughter's pick-ups? Just in case you are still looking, my friend uses a company (assist.ae) for her children's afternoon pick-ups and is really happy with their service. You may give that a thought if nothing else works.

I completely understand how you feel! I have been using various web developers through Elance but have not been happy with any! They are great from a pricing perspective, but lack creativity and have to be told everything from A to Z. Communication can be a problem, but more importantly I also wish for creativity but never get it. Hubby says that's expecting too much...I'm on my 3rd developer right now...1 guy to design the site, 2nd guy to tweak it, and 3rd guy to tweak what the 2nd guy tweaked grrrrr. I hope your situation gets sorted out for you quick and easy. Hang in there!

We stay in Concord Tower in cluster H and we love it. We have a 1 bed + study, really big and spacious with 2 big balconies. Prices are around 55-60k. The building is well maintained and located in a good spot in JLT (avoiding the dreaded roundabout). Good luck with your search!

I've heard of these as well, but have a friend who used assist.ae and was really happy with them. Professional and quick service, she said the lady on the phone was really nice which is rarely the case in Dubai! She uses them for school pick-ups for her kids, and for odd jobs like picking up groceries, paying her bills and such. I still need to give them a try myself.

I personally use supermart.ae often and they're good and fast. They don't have a large number of items on their website, so sometimes it's frustrating when I'm trying to find something specific so I have to call them instead. Alternatively, if I need products from a number of different stores, I use assist.ae, where I just hire a personal assistant by the hour who does the runaround for me (in a car, not a bike) and delivers it all to my doorstep. It's worked really well for me so far. I just send them a shopping list and I don't have to spend hours going around town myself.

The wedding actually took place in Uganda, Africa, so our certificate is from there. Problem is Uganda does not have an embassy/consulate in the UAE. What happens in that case?

I have my marriage certificate from my home country, can I just take it directly to the Ministry here in Dubai to have it attested? Or do I need other attestations from my home country first? This is really confusing and any help will be appreciated.

Not sure if you're looking for someone to babysit all day while you're at work, or if you just need someone here and there for a few hours. If its the latter, I use an amazing young lady (American) and my son loves her! She runs her own concierge company but loves the occassional babysitting jobs and never sends anyone else. Her name is Zuzana and her number if 0554495089. Hope this helps!

You could check with Banyan Tree Al Wadi in Ras Al Khaimah, beautiful resort and I'm sure they would be willing to accomodate a small wedding. Good luck, hope you find the perfect spot!

Unfortunately I don't think they exist here in Dubai. Maybe if you get lucky and work for an American company? Back in the US they are very flexible like that, but honestly haven't heard of any company here in Dubai with such flexibility. Terrible, I know.

I bought an amazing cake from House of Cakes before, but they're in International City which is far from Marina. They do deliver though but I remember it was not cheap. Another one I can see online is Sweet Lane Cakes but I haven't tried them yet so can't really comment.

You can rent him a Lamborghini for a day :) Cobone has a deal right now for 3500 aed which is really good because anytime I checked in the past the price was 5000. I've rented an Audit R8 for my husband's birthday in the past and he was soooo excited it was amazing! If your hubby is into cars, he'll love this for sure! My husband dragged me all over Dubai that day so he could valet the car at all the malls and hotels that matter LOL

If your phone here is pre-paid (which it seems to be from your description), then you'll be perfectly fine in the US, you'll just be roaming. Do put a lot of credit on your phone and you'll be fine.

I just had a computer issue recently, and a friend of mine recommended this guy from the US, his name is Harsh. Super nice and seemed like he really knew what he was doing. His number is 050 117 6590.

I would say it depends on what kind of a new years eve you're looking for. If you want something peaceful and absolutely relaxing I would go to the Banyan Tree Al Wadi. Perfect desert setting with your own private pool at your villa, amazing spa and thai food. But if you're looking for a 'happening' place to party at, then this is not the place :) Sorry, I'm really not good with the party places for new years...I've always left the country for new years and spent the holidays overseas.

I also find the working hours in Dubai way too long, not at all what I'm used to from back home. But unfortunately it is the norm here and can't really get around it. Even at my job everyone seems to think 10-12 hrs a day plus weekends is not a big deal...just the way life goes in Dubai. Helamima, when you hear something about those part-time jobs, pass the info along :)
