Hi guys, I am coming back to Dubai for 6 days in January and I need some help here. The purpose of me visiting UAE is that I have to attest some of my documents in Dubai, and I have no other option. I am looking for some place to stay for 5 nights. I checked out the hotels and they mostly have very high rates as it is the Festival season in UAE. We all know Dubai costs a lot for someone who is unemployed. Can you please help me and tell me where can I find a studio to rent for a short stay? Also, as I have to go to different places for the attestation of the documents, I need to rent a car. Can you suggest any place with affordable rates for a rent a car? I really appreciate your responses Thanks alot

Hi, I got my dogs vaccines done the other week (27/5) and they weren't actually due until 16th June. Hope this helps :) Good luck with everything OMG, really? Yes this helped a lot... Thank you... May I know where did you take your dogs for vaccination, I don't think my dog's vet do it earlier than the due date. TIA

My friend is leaving the country in two days and she needs someone to foster her dog for a month. Her dog is a medium size dog ( she looks like a miniature German Shepherd), and she is really really lovely. She is very good with small dogs, and humans. My friend can't afford a kennel for a month, and that's why she's trying to find her a temp home. I really want to take care of her, but I'm traveling soon. Please help us find her a good home for a month.

n_b18, I go to Body Worx in JBR. They have 2 locations: Murjan and Rimal. I love it because I can buy one month at a time; I travel a lot. 450 dhs for 1 month and this price includes classes. If you check out their FB page you can see pics. "Bodyworx Total Wellbeing." I can't remember what a 3 month or 1 year package is; a little better savings. I am very happy there--it is not a spa, not a chattery, people don't read newspapers on the bench press-- it's a gym! Wow, nice...This is what I'm looking for... Thank you very much..I will give them a call to find out more about their prices.

Well the problem is still there apparently... The meter is still turning nonstop, even when we switch off everything in the house.... And now we've found a new problem...the meter number mentioned on the bill is not a match to the meter number on the meter itself....the number we have on the bill is 8 digits and the one on the meter is 10 digits, and totally different...We contacted DEWA, and even they have a meter number that matches the meter itself, not the number on the bill. We're totally confused now, how is it possible to have two different number for one water meter? is there a specific system going on? The DEWA customer care told us the technicians came and read the meter on Jan 8th, and there was nothing wrong with the water meter. They said they wanted to inform us, but nobody was home!!!! this is strange cause I was home all day and no one came to the door!!! Please help me with this again...Can you tell if your meter number matches to the meter number on the bill or there is a system going on that they double or something to the numbers? I really want to scream and bang my head against the wall :( edited by n_b18 on 12/01/2012

Well our problem is solved now. Apparently the water ball in the water tank was broken and the water was pouring in to the sewage drainage. So, now we wanna go to DEWA and tell them that we didn't use 131,418 (Usage of 7 months) gallons of water, and there was a problem with the water tank. We have paid them 5880 AED extra so far for the water that wasn't used at all. We just want them to put this amount as our credit, not refund. Do you think we have a shot here? Will they agree to this?

Hi ladies, DH received an email regarding a job interview in Ajman. The email was written really unprofessional, and there was only one mobile number and no land line or website for the company. So he tried the mobile number and a lady picked up the phone, she couldn't speak English and handed the phone to another lady who was a little bit better in speaking English. She told DH that they're interviewing candidates on behalf of Al Maya Group, and the office is located in Ajman but the job is in Dubai. When DH husband asked for the website and a telephone number, the lady got angry and shouted call this number only. DH was really ******, so he called Al Maya Group, and talked to someone in the HR department. They said they're not hiring at the moment and they don't have an office in Ajman. They asked for the mobile number, and they said they will inform the authorities, that someone is using their name and is scamming ppl on their behalf. So, what's going on? scammers are using every possible way to scam ppl. This company posted their ad on Dubizzle. This is the third time in the last 4 months DH received scam interviews. Just wanted to share this and inform others who are looking for jobs and receive emails for interview appointments. Just be aware and do your research first:) edited by n_b18 on 07/01/2012

Very interesting, being slightly naive, im not sure why someone with qualifications couldnt get a job here, is it to do with having a "record" ? edited by egg on 06/01/2012 Nope, it's not that, MF mentioned it, it's their nationality...they don't have any kinda issues themselves... The National ran an article on it on 5th Jan. Bus/economy section. It is online, but I shall not be the one to link it. For obvious reasons. yup, just saw the article, thank you for mentioning it

This makes me really really sad. It's not only my friends who are facing this issue, I know few other people from this certain nationality who are recently having problems with their visa. I really hope things get better, because most of these people are highly educated (I'm talking about students with GPAs above 3.00) and very skillful. I really hope things get better soon, cause I can't see my friends like this anymore. They're really unhappy, and to be honest desperate at the moment. As a close friend that makes me really sad, and helpless.

Hi ladies, Two of my dear friends are looking for jobs in UAE, but unfortunately, due to some complications (I think I'm not allowed to mention the reasons on the forum) companies are not willing to hire them. Please note that these complications do not have anything to do with my friends' educations, CVs, work experiences, personalities, skills, talents, attitudes, or anything like that. So, the problem isn't personal, if you know what I mean. Anyways, they're currently on student visa. They both have Master's degree, and I can say they are really talented, and hard working. They are now looking to find something in freelance,part-time, or promotional area. So, please if anyone of you knows how they can find these kinda jobs, I'll appreciate it. They have looked all the promotional jobs in Dubizzle, but nothing yet. TIA edited by n_b18 on 06/01/2012

Well that makes it difficult. You are at DEWA's mercy then. I hope it is a meter problem. Can you hear the meter turning over if all the water is switched off inside? It makes a clicking sound. Perhaps you can hear something through the door? We tried it again this afternoon, when it was quieter. We could hear the meter clicking when the water was switched on, we switched the water off and couldn't hear a thing! So there's no leak apparently.

Believe me when I say this, try weight lifting and cardio exercises together, and you will get the result you want... I used to be fat before, but I managed to lose 25 kg in 8 months with this method. Of course I was on a diet too but exercise helped a lot. The good thing about this kind of exercise is that I don't have a saggy body after losing that much weight. I have a toned body now :)... And ppl who don't know me, can't believe when I tell them I used to be fat. you just have to be very committed to the exercise and your diet. I spend 2 hours in the gym everyday, and I do weight lifting, cardio and ab exercises all together. As far as my diet, I eat whatever I want, but not too much. edited by n_b18 on 05/01/2012

No problems. Someone told me of your post and I am happy to help where possible. I understand the anxiety. We moved into our Meadows villa from Australia on 7 August and on 16 Sept received an SMS from DEWA saying our payment was overdue. We had not received any statement from DEWA before that date. We were advised we owed DEWA 23,000 AED. Yes, twenty three thousand! Welcome to Dubai. A simple problem with the water tank that cost 50 DHM to fix. But because it was not detected till half way through the next billing period, we ultimately chalked up 40,000 Dhm in DEWA costs. Approximately an olympic sized pool of water had gone through our tank in 6 - 8 weeks and literally been sent down the sewerage system according to one of the Director's at DEWA that I spoke to, so it was not detectable above ground. It has been a nightmare courtesy of a Landlord who has failed in so many ways to maintain this villa. I am now absolutely paranoid about our water readings and diarise what the week's reading is every Friday to check whether anything looks askance. How are things tonight? Are you any closer to detecting the cause? DEWA told me they have to come and check the meter themselves, as the door of the water meter is locked outside and we don't have the key for it. We have called them twice to remind them the urgency of the issue. The guy was also shocked when he heard how much was the water bill. He told us the problem maybe the meter or the system default. I called the maintenance company of our villa and they told us we have to wait for DEWA to check the issue first, and if they didn't find anything they will come and check :(((((( I really hope the issue is with meter or DEWA itself, as getting the LL (who lives outside the country) involved is a complete headache. edited by n_b18 on 05/01/2012 edited by n_b18 on 05/01/2012

Thank you all for your posts:) The thing is buying a household item is a little bit tricky, as their house is decorated with lots of EXPENSIVE antiques, and they both have very specific tastes for their personal items. To be honest we can't spend that much on a housewarming present at the moment...So, how about a bottle of wine, flowers or even a very delicious and beautiful cake (they both love desserts)? TIA

We had to deal with sooo many agents when we wanted to move to Emirates Hills. It was absolutely frustrating...Many of the agents don't even bother to show up at all, and some of them just lose interest when they show you a house you don't like for some reason...We are going to move again by mid Feb, I am sure we're going to experience more of these frustrating stories.

It's really funny, every post I read (The ones that I can relate to) it reminds me of my own issues with my inlaws some how...I don't know maybe this is normal for some of them to be this much rude and impolite... I think they should remind themselves, the important thing here is that their son is HAPPY and he doesn't have any problem with his wife's way of cooking, baking, organizing, decorating, raising the kids, etc. They should be thankful that their son is married to someone who makes him happy, if he is not happy, then he should be the one sorting things out not his mother for GOD sakes... I don't know would they appreciate someone treating their own daughter the same way they treat their DIL???? DONT THINK SO

We have been married almost 11 years now. I never saw my faher in law but we have a very close and tight relationship with my MIL. The other day I was talking to my sister about her, and said that I think we have a very normal and healthy relationship. We have our moments of disagreement, the moments of mad competition of mentioning she loves hubby more than I do, the moments of her reorganising and redecorating my home, our long chats over tea in person and over hours of just living....on Skype...... Now it has gotten to a point that even if we have a very bad day the day she is leaving, less than 2 months later I want her to come back, cause I miss her:( I look at her like I look at my dad, he is not perfect, I don't agree with everything he says and does, but he is my father and I love him to bits.... I am very happy that I have reached a point where I can say the very same about her....I love her, no matter what... Yes, I believe your relationship is normal, and healthy...I wish I had that kinda relationship with my MIL...but imagine if you had to put up with those moments of disagreement every week you see your MIL,FIL and also your SIL :(.. and you had to listen to your MIL criticizing your way of organizing and decorating your own house...believe me it's really unbearable...

How do you guys feel about your in-laws in general? I'm just curious to know if there are others who feel the same way as I feel about mine... To be more specific, I have had issues with my in-laws for the past 8 years of my marriage, but I've always managed to overcome my frustration and showed no reaction...I don't know maybe the solution is to live in different cities, and not close to each other. You mean: Devils in law?? I have stories about them, last time I had a word with them was more than 2 years ago, to be frank with you, I'm happy like this, told DH if he wants to visit them he can do it, not me or my children, last time I was in there house FIL insulted me and my family- to be specific my blood line - and my children are 50 per cent from my blood, so I won't let my children subjected to those priks. DH knows they had mistaken but he can't tell them they were wrong, they are over 80s, as he says; it's too late in the day. so I replied to DH; well it's too late for them as well to know my children. Devils in law, best nickname ever....will use it from now on

To be honest I think the only way is to stop talking to them AGAIN and move to another continent(which we're in the process)...I can't stand them anymore and everytime we visit them, they manage to say something stupid and ruin the day for me. My SIL is another story. She is not married and she lives with them. She pretends to love me and she tries to be close to me, but she proved herself when she said nasty stuff behind my back to a friend:(...DH also has his own sort of issues with them and he agrees with me all the time. He has even told me couple of times to not visit them anymore or if they say something I should react and tell them they're being rude. Unfortunately, I can't be like that and have a fight with them all the time, it's better to stop seeing them and if we have kids someday,I never ever let them see my kids... I think that's a good punishment;)

DH has applied for maybe 100 positions, but nothing only 1 or 2 thank you notes. I believe in this region things are totally different, first you need to have connections to be able to find an appropriate position.Second, your nationality matters ALOT. Third is your salary expectancy! Be aware that in Ramadan everything gets slow... But I tell you the same thing that I tell to my DH, don't lose HOPE. You are qualified just be patient and you'll find what you're looking for :)

Thank you guys, you were all very helpful to us :) As for the update, we've decided to stay in our current place in the Springs for one more year, and move when we could afford to pay for a nice apartment in Marina. The fee for DEWA is less than the agency, deposit, and relocation fee that we have to pay right away, and it doesn't worth it honestly. So, we're staying and I think we can manage to put up with the noise, by going to bed earlier and when there aren't many cars passing by. Thank you for your supports
