Its only my SIL I have kept in touch with. I see my brother when they come for hols both here and in France but he never contacts me inetween. I phone my mum but she has dementia so she can't phone me... mind you she didn;t when she was well either. Thats why its such a blow that SIL has eacted so badly

thank you. I did not phrase it great as I got upset, had adrink, then sent email. never a great move! I said something along lines of feel like I have no family, but thats fine! Regret that now. hould have phrased it better but I have apologised and said it was because I was hurt but too late... damage has been done

I am happy just to let it go.. I know my sis in law has been ill and still has concerns and now her dad is terminally ill so don;t want to fall out over christmas cards....but its as if its too late now. Maybe we were not as close as I thought we were if i can't be forgiven for what I said. I regret the email i sent, but the hurt was genuine. edited by Go girl on 23/01/2013

I would still pay if they wanted to come over...and they know that. they just want to make me suffer for daring to have said anything... and its working!

The one on the Palm would be the nearest to Jumeirah. DH hasn't been there for a while, one side was filling up but there was still another side to be opened. Ghantoot would allow you to park your trailer but, unless things have changed, the others wouldn't. Probably only 10% of the berths at Ghantoot are taken. Last time we were at Festival City Marina it was about a quarter full. The west bay of DMYC has plenty of spaces and is cheaper as the berths do not have electricity or water. You can try negotiating with all of them but it doesn't mean they will reduce their rates. @ Go girl - DH used to be the marina manager at Ghantoot. Do you still have a boat there ? Yes I still have a boat there. edited by Go girl on 02/10/2012

thank you all so much... some really good advice. I won't cut all ties... but won't visit this summer. I am only in the UK for 5 days and she lives 300 miles away. Its not going to be worth the journey for the stress when I get there. I think its best to give myself some space and a year off doing the duty thing as its not appreciated anyway. I will keep in phone contact but will probably not be as often as I used to call her. She was an older mother when she had me and that does explain some of it and some of it is just plain selfishness. I am a mum myself now and could never treat my son the way she treats me. I will make sure my son has contact with her too although again limited as he doesn't really get anything from it. I may not visit the Uk for 6 months to a year after this summer and I appreciate that her age / state of health I may not see her again but can live with that if that does happen. I tried telling her how I felt on our last conversation but she doesn;t hear it so I have to accept that is the way she is and there are some things I can't change. The cigarettes are an issue as she has been falling asleep with lit cigarettes so is unsafe to have them. As no one nearby will buy them for her... that is why she asked me to post them. I was hurt as its the only time she has called me in years. Again i have to accept that that is what is important to her. If I visit this summer the first thing she will ask is for the duty frees and will be an atmosphere when I haven't brought them. I am so grateful for all your advice and am feeling a little more at peace now I have made a decision I think I can live with. Thank you.

thanks Div. Tried that and no pattern that I can see. Some times sick when haven't eaten for a few hours. Sometimes straight after a meal.
