Thank you very much CouchPotato!!! ☺️ We have to travel this summer so we might go with canceling visas in May. I'm guessing this means our medical insurance will become invalid? Do you happen to know if my drivers license would be valid if my visa is cancelled? Thanks again!! Enjoy your weekend ? Lost as ever ?

http://www.thenational.ae/lifestyle/personal-finance/ensure-you-have-access-to-cash-if-your-husband-dies#full Sounds like we do not need a separate will done in the UAE (and in fact, it could nullify that ones we have in our home country) but that we need to get our home country wills notarized at our embassies.

Hi there, Sorry to high jack the Dubai forum but I thought some of you may have been there. I would like to find out if anyone has been to Derma Beauty Clinic in AD? I am particularly interested in their Smoothshape services. I want to take my mom there..Any feedback would be great! TIA! :)

I use to use GoNabbit which was before living Social took over. I have only purchased food vouchers and a massage and didnt have any problems. Mind you, done the same with Groupon too. Problems start when it involves things being delivered to you ! Thank you mushypeas! :)

I have used LivingSocial a couple of times and not had any problem, I have only bought service type offers though never anything that had to be delivered - if that makes sense. I have also used Cobone too (again service purchases) and although they are not so efficient administratively I have always had my purchase delivered. Thanks Cornish Pixie :)

hi, I bought a ring from them last year. They are an Irish company and I cannot say enough great things about them. Their jewellery arrives as per their delivery dates stated and you also receive all the relevant certificates and also letter stating the value of your jewellery for insurance purposes. Their customer service is also great (I ordered the wrong size ring so had to be resized) so I am a very happy customer. P.S. I was in the UK when I received my package so I don't know about their UAE delivery but I imagine it will be the same standard. I hope this helps :)

Hi khatoon, If you and your friends/family you want to have a video conf call all have gmail accounts go to your Google+, you can have a 'hangout' session where I believe you all can have your video on and have a video conf call for free. I hope this helps.. I hope this helps :)

Hi coffee_mate, We were in Istanbul for new years and we drew local money (Turkish Lira) from the Istanbul airport when we arrived. Everyone uses the local currency. The Euro is not very popular there, we had to pay the taxi in Lira, you also need Lira if you need to buy Travel Cards or just a sandwich form a shop. I guess most hotels accept Euros but that's about it. You are also more likely to get ripped off if you try to buy things with Euro. So I suggest you get some Lira when you arrive in Istanbul. Don't buy your Lira from here though as the exchange rate is pretty bad. You can draw money once you get to Istanbul either at the airport or near your hotel - there are plenty of ATMs around. I recommend the airport though so you don't have to stress for the rest of your holiday :) We absolutely loved Istanbul and I can't wait to go back there again soon. Enjoy!!! HTH :) Thank you! I will take your advise and get Lira's on arrival! Can't wait - it's my birthday trip! You will love it there!! Have a great Birthday :D

If you were on your Husbands visa and had a labor card provided by the company you will have no issues moving to a new role. NOC's no longer exisit and if they did you do not get a ban as you were on Hubbies visa References from whomever managed you are good to have as most companies ask for them now Thanks a million louisedvs :)

Thank you very much both, cat-trax and Al Quwatain! :) @ Al Quwatain: I am working legally. I was hired for a specific project which initially was for one month only but was extended up until now. My contract was then renewed each month and since the project was winding down, I (and I guess my company agrees) saw no point in waiting for the official completion of the project. Therefore I am allowed to resign at such a short notice. Thanks again for the helpful advice! :) <em>edited by lost_in_the_city on 21/02/2012</em>

Thank you Gorobattie!!! @americanfamily3 : Thank you for the tip!!!! I am playing with the idea of starting a business in which case I will not be allowed to operate under my husband's visa. Re ID cards - it seems they are/will be linked to the visa: http://www.uaeinteract.com/docs/Emirates_ID-visa_link_in_Dubai_from_April_1/48256.htm Thank you both again! :D

Thank you very much!!!! Very helpful indeed - I am planning on getting my drivers but also in between jobs so I didn't want to be doing the admin twice. Thanks again! :) I also found this if anyone is interested - your drivers license is valid until its expiration even if you are no longer resident of Dubai: http://gulfnews.com/news/gulf/uae/traffic-transport/driving-licence-valid-after-visa-cancellation-1.46179

hi there, it took me two weeks to fully recover, the first week was ****... I didn't go to the doctor as I had no energy to get out of bed but took Paracetamol every time I felt the fever creeping in. I also took Berocca every day. Make sure you drink loads of liquids - tea, juice, water...and Manuka honey helped me too - one tea spoon in the morning and one in the evening. Unfortunately it is a virus so no medicine can help but it can only relieve some of the symptoms. You have to just ride it out...Feel better!!! :)

Hello ladies, I hope you can help me with my question: I work for a company in the UK, however I am based here in Dubai. The plan is to try and build up a client base for the business before opening an official branch here. My question is: Am I allowed to approach local business on behalf of my company even though it has not yet registered a branch here? By the way all the technology and services will be done form the UK, if this makes any difference... I would really appreciate it if you can help me with this a I am rather confused on the topic. Thank you! Lost as always ;) <em>edited by lost_in_the_city on 24/01/2012</em>

Thanks! Any news on the new "final" due date? They keep moving it. It depends on the Emirate you are in, see below form the official website: http://www.eida.gov.ae/en/news-updates/news/emirates-id-distributes-2-million-brochures-titled-register-now-across-the-uae.aspx Hope this helps :) It is noteworthy that the period for starting to impose delay fees on residents (above 15 years) across the UAE has been divided into 4 stages. The first stage covers all the residents in Fujairah, Ras Al Khaimah, Umm Al Quwain and Ajman in addition to all government and semi-government (federal and local) employees and their families, effective from December 1, 2011. The second stage covers all the residents in Sharjah, effective from February 1, 2012, while the third stage covers all the residents in Abu Dhabi, effective from April 1, 2012 and the 4th stage covers the residents in Dubai, effective from June 1, 2012. In contrast, national and resident children below 15 years were given a grace period till October 1, 2012, while those subject to the social security law and individuals with special needs and those suffering from autism were exempted from population register and ID card registration fees and from renewal fees of expired cards.

I am so jealous!!! I love CT!! This is not quite on the Garden Route but within the CT area. It is something different and you have to love seafood! There is a lovely beach restaurant (well restaurant is a strong word, its more like a causal braaii aka bbq on the beach) where everything is cooked in front of you on a big fire, and the bread is home made (the best bread ever!!). You pay a set fee (can't remember at the moment but quite cheap) and there are 8-10 different courses of fish and prawns and any sea food you can think of. It is an amazing atmosphere, very relaxed and you can even bring your own wine/drinks. It is a great experience and I strongly recommend it! Here is the link if you fancy trying it out :) http://www.strandloper.com/about.asp Make sure you book in advance... ENJOY!!!!!

Thank you for your replies. I think the fact I haven't started work yet may be part of the problem! Will try one of the coffee mornings to start with and see how it goes..... Btw, lost in the city, I like your name - it's exactly how I feel all the time here! I feel exactly the same hence the name :) It too me a while to get a job and I know how you feel. Have you started applying for jobs yet? That will keep you busy for at least a few hours a day... <em>edited by lost_in_the_city on 30/11/2011</em>

We have just moved from the UK - been here a few months now and the homesickness is now starting to set in! Any words of advice on what I should do to ward it off (other than jump on the next flight back to London which is what I wanted to do yesterday!). What's the best thing to do to meet people here? Hi SXI, I must say I am in the same boat as you...The best thing to do is just find things you really enjoy and look for similar clubs to join. Are you working? If you do this is one way of meeting people, although it hasn't really worked for me. If you don't work, you can always try the Coffee Mornings if this is your thing... :)

If you stand with your back to IV you are looking at the Aviation Club - you need to walk around the left hand side of the Av Cl building as the entrance is at the back. Thank you very much Suethack! :)

Dear JSW, I am so sorry that you are going through such a hard time. I went through something similar, although I wasn't married to the guy I thought he would be the one (babies, white picked fence, the whole lot!). The only advice I could give you is look after yourself, it sounds like you have already given a lot of energy to try and fix this but without the return. It is now time to stop, take a deep breath and take the time to be very very kind to yourself. You have been through a terrible ordeal and you need to be nice to yourself. It took me about 2 years to get back to my old self, and later I met a wonderful man. Sometimes things happen and we have no control over them but a few years down the line you see that it was for the better at the end (I know this is the last thing you want to hear right now). In the meantime, use this as an opportunity to be selfish and focus only on yourself. Do things that make you happy, explore new opportunities, like travel or new career, spend more time with your girlfriends (they are always a great support and good shoulder to cry on). It is going to be a roller coaster (feeling down one day, feeling better the next) but time does heal and you will be happy again you will see! It is always scary doing something out of your comfort zone but it is so empowering once you have done it, you then wonder why you didn't do it sooner! I hope you feel better soon! Sending you hugs!:)

I love the Nespresso machine gift for the office - the rest of the people in the office will definitely appreciate it and they can always remember your DH on their coffee break :) Re the boss' present - if he is a Man Utd fan, you can order him a personalized Man Utd jersey with his own name on the back? Not sure if this can be done here in Dubai though...you may have to order it from overseas to be shipped, you still have 3 weeks left :)... Sorry not the most helpful of posts...Good Luck with the move!!! :D
