No idea but you're not after hydrofluoric acid and a large low-density polyethylene tub are you? Should we be worried? ;) LOL :) Definitely don't need that! Just some basic chemicals (non toxic and non harmful :) ) and some indicators... and few glass beakers, gloves etc. Nothing to worry about :) So anywhere else to try? Will def call this company that shaks recommended.

I've seen it in Home Center in MOE :) It's pretty big,it won't fit to the fridge, but it has an ice compartment on top,so that should keep the juice cold.

Does anyone know if this club still exists? They used to play indoors at Dubai American Academy in Barsha, but their website is not updated since 2009. TIA edited by Jass on 29/07/2012

dibdab replied : After a probation period I would only discuss a raise if it had been discussed initially - such as if there had been a discussion at offer stage that they were aware that the salary was low and this would be revisited upon successful completion of probation period. Yes, this is the case. The contract was signed for 3 months initially. It was said that the offer will be revised after the completion of a 3 month period based on performance. So I was really doing my best to learn as much as possible and working very hard during this period to prove that I am the right person for the job. Am I wrong if thinking that 'offer revising' means higher pay? Hugsys replied : Its worth asking if your on good terms with your employer, have worked hard and have something to show for what value you've added to the company since you joined. DH was given a 15% salary increase while still on probation (3 months into his new job) and another 15% salary increase at his probation meeting so its definitely possible! I would personally never ask an employer for a 40-60% increase so soon into starting a new job. I find that figure outrageous. If one of my staff asked for that 3 months into joining I would be very annoyed. Clearly you knew what the salary was when you accepted the job so to expect your salary to go up by 60% within 3 months is a bit silly to me. Thanks for posting that, the only thing that is confusing me is that there will be no housing allowance, and apparently this is almost a norm here... Does your DH receives housing allowance? Thank you ladies! Any info is appreciated :)

What is the vibe like - does the employer seem happy with the probation period? And could you ask other colleagues in your department how they have fared before? The employer seems quite happy, but I've noticed that colleagues are not willing to talk about incomes, somehow it is not common, or it is considered confidential, have no idea why is it like that. And two other people in the department have many years of experience (15 and 20 yrs) so their salary is not relevant in this case. I mean, even if I knew their salary, i could not possibly expect something similar.

What about producing/making something at home and selling it through Arte, Covent Garden market, Ripe etc.? Do you need some special kind of licence for that, or you just have to pay a fee for the booth? When you pay the fee for the booth you go under their license while selling on the booth. Just being curious... how much is the fee approximately?

Hi Jas, Fatoush dressing contains pomegranate molasses ( known in Arabic as dibs rumman) and not pomegranate juice. You can buy this at any large supermarket. The dressing typically conSists of olive oil, dibs, lemon juice, and salt. Sometimes sumac is added as well. HTH Oh so it's molasses not juice :) Thanks for the clarification! I've seen molasses in Lulu but I thought I need the juice so I did not purchase it :) I will buy it next time. :) Can you tell me just what is sumac? I've never heard of it... So it is legal to sell online through Etsy from Dubai? Maybe this sound like a stupid question but I know laws can be tricky here. What about selling online via your own website? Is that also ok? Sorry for a little off-topic :)

I bought flax seed in Lulu (it was some organic brand, can't remember the name), and have seen it also in C4. It is also called linseed so you can try searching it under that name. Also there are two varieties of flax seed, the brown ones and the gold ones. Although I don't know the difference between these two... ;)

All are good if the goal of your diet is to lose weight. If you are on low sodium diet than you should pick the one that has the lowest amount of sodium (Na). This is written on the label. But then, it is much better to cut your salt intake then to be worried about type of water you're drinking. edited by Jass on 02/03/2012

Never been to RIPE, I always somehow forget about it. I am a big fan of veggies (can't imagine a lunch without vegetables and a salad) and tend to by local fruits and veggies whenever possible. I buy them at C4, Lulu, Co-op and sometimes even at Fruit&Vegetable market in Deira.

I'm in a similar position to you but I have started attending networking groups and recently met with some people in the business. I am hoping something comes out of that. Network with as much people as possible. That is also a good idea. How did you find yor networking group? Does anybody knows about some chemical engineering networking groups, or just to recommend any that could be suitable. I got a contact once for a networking group, but when I phoned them a man told me that they stopped organizing meetings 2 yrs ago. @ loube I really hope that you will find a job, it must be really hard, my fingers are crossed for you!

you could offer yourself 'free' for 6 months, like an intern type position to gain some ME experience....but linked in is the other good place to advertise This would be tempting to a company, no? Administratively, what would a company have to do to get her in? Would be good for her to know as well - she can then offer this option to them. I would love to offer myself 'free' for 6 months, I do not mind working for free if it would give me some ME experience in engineering. So what do you think, is it an administrative problem for a company to hire someone for this kind of position. Does anyone know how this works? Would the company need to provide working visa, or one can work 'free' on husband's sponsorship visa? edited by Jass on 27/02/2012

Are you on Linked in - and made contact we companies / recruitment agencies that look after engineers? I am on LinkedIn but always felt a bit embarrassed to stalk the companies and their HR. I always think how would a HR feel if many people started sending them InMails. Am I wrong about this? You are very wrong! How else will you stand out amongst the thousands of candidates who they receive CV's from? You need to put yourself out there, what's to be embarrased about!? The worst thing they can do is ignore you or tell you that they don't have any positions for you. NO reason to be embarassed! You think so! Thank you so much MonkeyFace! Then I will definitively do it! :)

[b'>are you looking for entry level? really sorry to say that but for any of the big local companies, you wont be even looked at - they will be looking to take on locals who they can train etc. [/b'> yes most of these type of positions are subject to emiritisation. Well... with 2 yrs of experience I think I can only look for entry-level... but it seems a bit unfair that most positions like this are not available to expats :( And while posting here I was afraid that someone would actually write this... what sadly, but true gives only less hope.

@ GoodMorning I've tried asking people we know here (only the people who are working in the same industry as my husband, which is totally different) but had no results. Most of them do not even know the differences in engineering, think that mechanical, civil, chemical is all the same. @ kelly1814 I did that, I have all the records in my computer :) and I keep sending my CV and calling the companies, but in most cases I get only the chance to speak to a receptionist who is like: Ahhh ma'aam you send your CV and they call you if they like you. Last week I phoned a company and actually got a chance to speak with their HR and the lady was really polite :) , and told me to send the email with my CV attached but that the chances are small due to lack of experience.

Hi Ladies, I just need some advice from others who are/were in the same situation. I am struggling in finding a job and I think I am starting to lose faith. Moved to Dubai in October and searching for a position since then. I am a young chemical engineer with little experience (2 yrs) which a think is the main disadvantage (besides being a female engineer). But there must be some companies hiring entry-level engineers, although I see many entry-level positions that are for UAE nationals which makes my chances less. I would even volunteer in order to gain more experience, but it seems that that is impossible here. Any advice on how to gain more experience, or just how to make myself more 'attractive' to an employer? I was thinking about further education, but I already have a MSc degree and I do not think that one more certificate would compensate experience. Maybe learning Arabic….? I have ran out of ideas and simply don't know what to do anymore. How many of you were in a similar situation? Any advice is more then welcome. Thank you!

I've tried coconut water for the first time a few months ago in Sri Lanka, and loved it! Thank you DaisyLegs for asking about it here and to jcampos for the information provided, will definitely go to Co-op and buy few since they are so cheap. And I will leave it to my husband to figure out how to open one :) lol
