Hello, can anyone recommend a good Pediatric Neurologist in Dubai please? A Dr from Moorfields recommended the Children's Medical Centre as they have a specialist who comes in once a month from the UK Dr Sohal I believe. Any recommendations please?

Interestingly my post has been deleted. I used to direct people who were moving to Dubai to this forum. But the last couple of times I have done so they have come back to me with exactly the same points as the OP. One of the ladies I directed here has been an expat in other countries for over eight years and said she has never come across such nastiness on a forum. She was concerned all women in Dubai would be like this and I had to convince her otherwise. Recently DH was headhunted for a job in Asia and I myself posted on a few forums there asking questions and had nothing but positive and helpful responses. I expected the same sort of backlash received here but instead saw nothing but helpful, constructive and kind comments. It is a shame EW cannot be the same. I am not talking about home truths here, I am talking about people asking probing questions and making uncalled for judgements on others or personal attacks. Not so long ago someone posted here asking if there was any help or where to look for help caring for her dog. She was returning to the UK for an extended period for personal reasons and her DH was staying in Dubai but occasionally had to travel for work. The dog was elderly (I mean seriously old) and unable to travel and the return to the UK was expected to only be temporary in any case. The responses she got were frankly quite horrifying. A small number of people started speculating, are you having a trial separation? Sounds like you're getting divorced? All very upsetting for her. This is the kind of thing I think the OP is talking about. This person came on here looking for genuine assistance and advice but instead some people started practically quizzing her on her personal life. What business is it of theirs? She was asking about a dog not for marriage counselling. This is why now I sadly no longer direct any newcomers to Dubai to this forum, girls will be girls is absolute nonsense. People on here are not little teenagers they are grown women. Luckily this forum is not indicative of people in Dubai, in fact of all the women I have met in Dubai only one so far has been as judgemental and unpleasant as some of the comments on this forum. An expat forum is not meant to be a tough fighting ground like a schoolyard, it is meant to be a helpful exchange of information. Perhaps before posting some of these comments posters should reconsider, is this really the impression they want to give of Dubai? Well said !!!

Some people deliberately go on here to cause a stir. They have nothing else to do, so this is their entertainment. They love nothing better than to start a battle on EW. Some people really try and help, and perhaps their honesty may offend, but they mean well. So you have to try and pick the roses from the thorns... Your username makes me think you are going to pick me lol.. LOL - my username is directed at me - every time I sign in and type it, it makes me ask myself that question!!! edited by YRUFAT on 13/03/2014

I saw in 7 days this morning that 'Stomp' is also coming. This is a very similar show I think. Actually the shows are quite different. Stomp is more about percussion, and Tap Dogs is dance. In Stomp they make music with their drum sticks/hands, and in Tap Dogs they make music with their feet. In both shows, they make make music on anything and everything...

I have seen both shows Tap Dogs & Stomp - and I far prefer Tap Dogs. It is a very unique show, and the guys are amazing. I really hope a lot of people go because I don't think people realise what they are missing out on. They all think it just some a bunch of tappers - but it is much more than that. Their talent is sheer brilliance!

Would a shuttle bus work? for parents and children. Continuously going on a loop from Spinneys car park to the school and back again. Parents could hop on with their kids at Spinneys, alight at the school, walk them their kids to their class and then jump on the next bus back to Spinneys. Would take a lot of cars off the road. The principal had actually mentioned this back before the summer - so I don't know why it is not in place??? I don't know that stats, but I imagine a shuttle bus from Spinneys to School would save about 80 odd cars....??? Also, it would be soooo easy to build a gate in B Block and then a cement path to cross the sandy area which leads directly to the school. Semmer have opened their gates at peak hours for the school, why can't Cedre?? Imagine how many kids could then cycle, or walk? Not only would this relieve parking spaces, but how good would that be for the kids (and parents) to get some extra exercise in a safe environment?? edited by YRUFAT on 15/09/2013 edited by YRUFAT on 15/09/2013

Hi Tosh. I am very sorry you had to go through all of this. Don't be too hard on yourself. You were trying to be humaine and that is a very precious gift you have. All of us have been duped one way or the other by people who we trust, whether it be financially or emotionally. These, unfortunately, are the lessons of life. Take from this experience, and learn from it, and grow from it. This is what builds our character. You know the saying, what doesn't kill us makes us stronger.... Walk away. Cut your losses. Move on. Be Free. Change your number so that neither the boyfriend, nor the landlord can contact you in anyway. Don't talk to the landlord again, this has nothing to do with you. Not your problem anymore. The more you say, the more you dig a deeper hole. Wipe your hands clean. From a legal perspective, I am not an expert, but I don't believe it is illegal to visit a boy in his apartment? I could be wrong... But just because his landlord saw you go in and stay, he has no idea, nor proof, of what you do behind closed doors. But get some expert advice on this matter if you feel you need it. Just my opinion. One day, something nice will come back to you, because in your heart, you were really trying to do the right thing. You will get yours.... and he will get his.... Chin up, and walk away with your head held high!

I am an ex-professional dancer myself, and I am REALLY fussy about who I send my children too. I can highly recommend Diverse Choreography. For any RAD teacher, no matter how experienced you are, the new syllabus is new to ALL. So not one teacher can be more experienced than another with this new syllabus. Therefore, it comes down to the way the classes are taught. How quickly the teacher is adapting to, and understanding, the new syllabus. How much she pays attention to the tiniest of details which is what technique is all about. I just LOVE the way my DS is being taught at Diverse. She has Miss Sophie, and she is militant with technique. As I 'spy' through the glass door, I see how Miss Sophie is so hands on with her corrections, and she doesn't miss a thing. Miss Virginia, head of ballet, is also just amazing, and although Diverse just added ballet to their program last September, they are already a force to be reckoned with and I look forward to seeing how it all develops there. My DS wanted to give up ballet, but after training with Miss Sophie, now she is keen to do her 2 classes a week which is now necessary in order to be prepared for the exam the following year. She is a converted ballerina!!! Off to see Swan Lake soon with her .... :) The other thing I have to add about Diverse, is that you do not have to run around town to do other forms of dancing classes. They do street jazz, musical theatre, modern, tap, hip hop, ballet, contemporary ALL in the one place. Such a relief.... As you can see I am a big fan of Diverse, and I would not send my children anywhere else. Good luck :)

Hi There - I think your smartest move would be to return the package to Aramex (why would you pay for something that you did not order??). Anyway, Isabelle's mother will at some point realise that she has not yet received the package and follow up with her tracking number. In fact, with Shop N Ship, she will see on her account that it has been delivered and will probably go into total panic as she will see that you have already paid to receive the package. To best help Isabelle, please, please send it back to Aramex and let them do their job to find the rightful owner. I know you are trying to help, but by holding on to it she has little chance of receiving her gift.

Soy, you've got info it's happened (more than once!), this guy totally wrecked her car because she has an account there... No cheating proof at all... I'd be so ****** if DH trashed my car because I had an account on a dating site (if he caught me with another dude, that'd be a bit in his defense, though). . edited by AmyAus82 on 27/01/2013 So you are listed on an internet dating service for 5 years, with the specific goal to meet other men, and you don't consider this as cheating? Do you think every meeting she has had was totally innocent? It was also recent as he opened the computer and saw it.... She has been actively out there looking for it!! How would you feel if your husband did this???

I think it could be great if you could find a new hobby? Maybe there is something that you are quite passionate about, but have never had the time to do or even try? Use this time here to try and explore new things and I think a counsellor could really help you find a new passion in your life. I have been away from my family for more than 15 years, so this feeling comes and goes all the time. I decided to own my own online business, so I have some freedom to be with the kids etc, but I also have some goals and work objectives. I use my brain daily, and have a sense of accountability to others, to myself. I also found a new hobby - actually thanks to my husband and we enjoy it together. So maybe there is something out there that you might like to try? Why not give it a whirl??? And please, do not worry, there is nothing wrong with you. This is called LIFE :)

Not that i am saying the OP is doing this - but there has been many a thread on here of posters offloading their dud (sorry wonderful maids) Just saying that i would be very very wary of a "wonderful" maid - as we know how hard they are to come by. you know that makes a lot of sense ! Its easier to find a bigger apartment or outside living arrangements than a lovely nanny! Well I don't think any family would go that far to keep a Nanny. But totally agree with Darkside that you must be weary. A shame we all have to be so cynical these days... or perhaps streetwise is a better term??

Years ago I struggled with painful fingers, I would wake up with them all bent over and find it very painful to straighten them and I couldn't open jars/bottles. I was advised to give up instant coffee, what a difference. I no longer suffer from sore fingers. If I go to a restaurant and they give instant coffee, I know about it the next morning. Can you have coffee, for example, from a Nespresso machine (capsule)? Or you have to grind it yourself?

Thanks ladies, I am early 40s, and my mother and grandfather had rheumatoid arthritis. My mother has 2 knee replacements, and 1 hip replacement. I did an x-ray at least 8 years ago, and was told that there were signs on arthritis in my hip. But this is not the part that is affecting me right now... my fingers hurt, particularly my index finger, it can be quite painful. Spraying deodorant, perfume, opening a bottle, and even knocking it or catching it hurts. I have not done any RA blood tests, but could it be detected so early, if indeed I have it? Or do I just have normal arthritis. My fingers are not swollen, just sore. Given my family history, I would like to try and knock this thing on the head before it gets too bad. So I am really looking for a preventative route...if this exists??

It is possible that the soil vent pipe, which is connected to all the toilets, is located on the roof, and, if it is downwind or close to the air inlet grille of the the main air handler unit, also located on the roof, its going to suck in poo-air. All houses have the SVP and they are all stinky and mostly located at high level, so this is a possibility. I presume its a centralised air con system and not split units which is why the smell is getting distributed all over the house. I would get onto the roof and see where the SVP is. Unless they have already checked this out? edited by hilsbils on 25/07/2012 edited by hilsbils on 25/07/2012 You know the worst thing is that my very own brother, is an excellent air con and refrigeration mechanic who has won awards in Australia - but he can't help me from there :( He has given me some ideas to test, and I have sent him photos, but it's hard. He too believes it comes from the plumbing. We did have the plumbers in to start with - and they did find a few things such as the vents on the roof, and spotted a few problems with some plumbing, but nothing helped. I do remember when we first moved into the house, this particular bathroom has a bad smell, right from day one. The plumbers fixed this, but there must be more to it.... WOW - you really seem to know what you are talking about. They did in fact visit the roof, quite a few times actually, and our roof now looks like am amusement park as they have pipes and vents going off into all different directions. I would, however, like someone else to take a look. Maybe they had the right idea, but not the competence? It is not centralised, it is just one a/c, but happens to be split over two rooms - so hence we get the smell in the second room as well.... Great to see you have some ideas though - keep 'em coming... I find that these trades-people will often focus entirely on their own discipline so the a/c guys may only have looked at the a/c and not examined the plumbing system. Whatever is located near to your main air-inlet grille is bringing in a bad smell. A septic smell would rarely be in the duct /condensor etc itself unless something has died in there? I was in construction in my previous life and my Dh and I chatted about this cos he is a mechanical guy so I cant take all the credit unfortunately. He is a mech-elec-plumbing geek ;)

Do you live in a villa or an apartment? If its a villa it could simply be bacteria growing in the ductwork, and humidity in the ducts will keep it growing. Ive seen an air-handling unit cleaned/ sprayed with basic vinegar solution to clean out the bacteria growth. I presume the maintenance guys would have done this already and explored every avenue. If its an apartment it may simply be that your aircon ducts are picking up smells from the outside - perhaps from a nearby restuarant, or neighbouring smoker etc. Thanks - this is a villa and we were the first ever tenants. Right from day one we had this smell. It appears to be more like a septic smell - originally we thought it comes from the drains, which I think it does....somehow, but we ran some tests which eliminate this. So there must be a drain... some where in the cavity surrounding the supply air ducts in the return air path which sucks it in. The guys claim that the ducts are spotless.... so I want a new company with a new eye...

Hi there, I am so sorry to hear about this. Definitely seek legal advice first and think about whether you will plan to return to the UK etc. You need to think about getting your children out of the country etc, so please speak to someone who knows the ins and outs of the local law in terms on protecting your children as well. Good luck to you (cyber hugs!!!)

I can't recommend Dr Rolef enough - you will be very happy with her. My DD has had problems since she was 1 yr old, (now almost 5 yrs) and I have seen about 4 different GI's in Europe, and not one found her problem. Not one even bothered to do an ultrasound. This was the very first thing Dr Rolef did, I mean we didn't even walk into the consultation room. After giving her a brief symptom run down at reception, she thought it necessary to go to Ultra sound, and wham - we immediately saw she had a problem. Her husband is also a GI at the same clinic... but a doctor friend of mine recommended Ursula Rolef for the kids.

Oh my gosh - yes I do pity your mother! Wow -0 butter too? Oh boy... I went shopping on the weekend, and I was looking at the labels - I understand that if I see the word 'lactose' then it is not for her. But I have seen other such things as 'lactic ferments'. She also loves "milk bread" and the labels do not show lactose, but it shows reconstituted skim milk powder, or a drink she likes which reads 'skimmed cow's milk'. These do not have lactose written on the label, but they refer to milk - so is this also taboo? Sooo much to learn... Do you use the lactose free milk or rice milk for the entire family? Or you just keep everything separate. I have a slightly older child and just wondering if I should her her on the same regime too? Otherwise life could get complicated when she had her ice cream and the other one can't...then I guess it is not fair for her??

Hi there, I have experienced this in the USA with sites that are not supposed to ship outside of the USA. SNS addresses are flagged as 'international transits' (sorry not sure what else to call it), and therefore some 'systems' may see it as a fraudulent address, or, as an international shipping house (which it is), and then block it. I can only assume that something like this happened in your case. Check the shipping conditions on their site??

They have also done a summer camp right at the beginning of the holidays for a week with visiting US choreographers for the last few years. That has been a great week too. Highly recommended. Thank you - have you seen any of Diverse's work?
