Not been to a concert here in AD, is it worth getting a golden circle ticket or is there not much in it from the General Admission? Thanks the golden circle tickets are 2295AED rather than 495AED general admission! so no choice for me I just couldnt justify spending that much.

I haven't been into Debenhams MOE recently, but they used to display the NYDJ at the back of the women's clothing floor (1st floor?), and it wasn't terribly obviously displayed either, just a load of jeans I seem to remember thinking. I tried a pair or two on, but they weren't for me / my shape, although I had high hopes having read some great reviews. Good Luck - the search for good jeans is never easy! Yes they were still in this place last month - and not very obviously. I love them first bought a pair in Debenhams here for 700AED and loved them. When I was in the states in the summer i picked up two more pairs in the sale for 19$ each pair. Maybe look online and see if you can shop and ship from USA

Anyone been? My vision isn't as good as it used to be and I'm thinking I should have it checked. The location is very convenient for me but I'm nervous about going to a store that might give me a script just so that I buy their glasses. Would love to hear experiences... Brilliant in there. I would certainly recommend. Both myself and hubby had our eyes tested and both kids too. The optician is Filipino and very experienced and great at explaining my astigmatism to me which I never really understood. No hard sell. Even suggested I bought my contacts in the uk when I was back as they are much cheaper

I 'third' the Intercon, we stayed there when we came for our look-see. The Marriott in City Centre might also be an option as you can walk around there and Jones the Grocer, for a nice breakfast, is across the road. The Sheraton is also close by and has a beach & views. Try not to compare to Dubai tho' ;) Thx ladies will try the intercon

Intercontinental in West Bay (not the city one) has a great pool and beach area and some nice places to eat (Coral, Belgian Cafe, etc)...W Hotel in West Bay is a trendy hotel (not on beach)...good brunches there if you are that way inclined.... Intercontinential sounds nice - i'm not into trendy! love a good brunch but only there for two days and nowadays I need a few days to recover! thanks

Syrian friend told me all bank accounts of Syrian are monitored by Abu dhabi. If there are large ammounts going they will ask form who and for what! He had some big amounts coming in to rent a villa buy a car ect and they questioned what he did with the money. All banks monitor all accounts regardless of your nationality under the Anti Money Laundering Act.

I would recommend both primary and secondary. I had two kids start when the school first opened and they went through both finished their A Levels and now both at University. One had a great deal of support from SENCO which I cannot praise enough. Its like others say it might not suit every child but lucky for me it was a great experience and I miss those school days - empty nest syndrome!!!

Switch it off against the wall and switch on again. The channels will then appear. Apparently it only takes 30 minutes to activate but they always tell customers 24hrs. The technicians also mostly forget that you should switch it on and off before the channels starts loading! I had to find this out by accident and pure frustration. Have to say though,I am very happy with my elife. :) edited by Asti on 20/01/2013 Thanks - I have tried switching off at the wall and resetting the box its self - nothing! I'm sure once it gets started it will be great - left it to the boss now to get on to Etislat - where there is football involved this afternoon he will be on a mission.

Sounds silly but have you tried a different source on your TV. We have to watch on where we used to watch DVD's in UK ie not on the TV channels normal button. Hi we have got the channels up on the screen all in little boxes but as soon as you click ok to go on that channel it says no subscription! I just don't think they have set it up right. Just wondered if there is something obvious I'm not doing!!

Don't know if I would trust this 10 day grace period any more. Friend and her DS went a few days ago to renew their visit visas, both were over the 30 days and consequently fined for each day. Official told her that the 10 day grace period no longer exists, but I do sometimes wonder if they make it up as they go along. Better safe than sorry though ! They definately make it up as they go along, depending on their mood - my parents left last month on day 39 of the visit visa and had no problems

Ok...if it's river-side living you'd like, then I think you can't go past a gorgeous apartment ("unit" in Brisbane speak) ON the river at Bulimba, Teneriffe, Newstead, Newfarm, Kangaroo Point etc. All have great cafe and restaurant strips and are a short ferry or City Cat ride to the CBD. It's also fairly easy to get to major arterials from any of those river-side suburbs for quick day trips or weekends away on the coast. I love parts of the Gold Coast, but I have lived there and loathed to travel to Brisbane. Aside from the travel, and compared to other Gold Coast locations, life at Hope Island feels just like living in a gated community in Dubai, with an equal lack of charm & character and even less privacy if you live on the water as every word of every conversation travels across to your 'neighbours'. ;) Another water-side location worth considering is the Redcliffe peninsula. The drive from Brisbane is under half an hour on much less stressful roads than the M1 to the Gold Coast. As you approach the peninsula, you cross the bridge and instantly feel like you're on holidays. There's a huge variety of accommodation to choose from...classic timber Queenslanders through to modern, water-front apartments. LOL...just re-read my earlier post and I've already sung the praises of Redcliffe. Oh well, just trying to get my point across. :D Redcliffe research it is then! I keep changing my mind every day now

Hi scp Most likely hope island Container is leaving July Let me know your email andi will be in touch to swap tips!! Hi rs...exciting that it's all happening! Can I ask why Hope Island? What will the commute be? Living there and having to drive to Brisbane daily is a bit like living at Mirdif and driving to Jebel Ali every day...only on a much worse road than the main arterials in Dubai. I'd pay double rent to live in Bulimba before even considering Hope Island. ;) (and not just because of the commute...lol) Well in Hope Island I loved being near the sea and most of the properties are on the river. This will be a completely different life as we leave dubai and both kids go off to University, its the first time in 20 years we will be a couple again! At the moment I travel from Dubai to Abu Dhabi Corniche on a regular basis and probably spend up to 3.5 hours in the car. I'm not going to definately make up my mind till I have moved over - for the first month I will be living in a serviced apartment in CBD - all your feedback is great though please keep it coming...

I live in Springs/Meadows and do a drop off at Dubai British School and travel to Sharjah for work and all round it takes me 40 mintues including the drop off. The new Al Barsha road opening helps get off the springs without much delay in the mornings. if I didn't have the school run then it would probably on take me 25 minutes. The Sharjah traffic is all going the other way - people coming from Sharjah to Dubai not travelling into Sharjah.

Well I've been to visit and everyone who posted was absolutely right - what a beautiful place i loved Bulimba but think I am going to look around Hope Island and have a bit of a comute (need to find a job though!) Thanks for all your comments and advice I|s there anything you would take with you from Dubai which you think would be useful or expensive to buy over there? If anyone knows anyone who will be looking for a good live in maid from end of June please let me know as this is one of the many things on my list to sort out!

Hi Oddsmum I am leaving Dubai in July and need to find a new family for my maid. She is filipino aged 30 and has been with me for about 18 months now. I got here via a recommendation here on expat woman and she is hardworking and honest. Although she does need supervision around prioritising work. She doesn't have any experience with young children so I wouldn't like to say how she would be if you have young children - I have teenagers who are pretty self sufficient. She loves dogs though. let me know what your situation is and where you are located. RS

I tell you - you have all cheered me up so much. I was absolutely devastated last week when I found out we had to leave Dubai, now I am really looking forward to a new challenge and new surroundings. The info has given me loads to think about and research. I'm not going till the end of this school year when my son finishes his A levels, the other one is already at University. So much to do as the husband has already jetted off - dog to sort out and then try and find a new family for my maid. Will keep you updated!
