I was just saying to my husband last night, for every parent who will give a smile and nod at nursery, there are another 3 who have pegs so far up their arses that they couldn't smile if Prada was having a BOGOF sale. So many uptight wannabes here.

we would move back to the UAE in a heart beat and have even said we would take a big pay cut. this place is like living and driving in a badly planned construction zone. it's more expensive for a **** selection. driving is terrible. I have not found the expat or local community more welcoming at all, and whereas I have close Emirati friends, I don't even know one Qatari besides work colleagues. as other posters have said, on the weekend in Dubai, you can go to Oman, al Ain, Abu dhabi, Fujeirah, where can you go here? Sealine? Not to mention whole NOC situation.

I'd pick it all up, put it in a big bag, take it up to her and tell her she dropped something, here it all is back. That's just disgusting, you're a better person than me, I would have gone off my brain by now.

Hi Fiorentina! If you still happen to have them, I would gladly take them and pay you what you paid for them. They are the only contraception that seems to agree with me, and so difficult to get hands on! Please let me know how to contact you when you are next online. Thanks!

Momoyum, you have been frequently in my thoughts over the last week, and I hope you were able to make it to a DM get together. There has been so much grief in the last week, and you need to know that you haven't been forgotten. Did you get to a coffee? Let me know if you need a lift to any of them. Thinking of you.

Have you asked him why he doesn't want a third? Maybe he is concerned about finances, your maternal health or the odds of having a baby with health issues. It may be a simple as he doesn't want to go through the infant years again now that your kids are a little older. I think as much as you would like a girl, you have to try to respect his stance as well.

Try the German Medical Centre - they are extremely efficient with bookings etc and are fantastic doctors. I know it's not British, but they have stuck to the schedule of our home country when we asked. Besides paeds, the have great GPs and Gynos, so it is good for a one stop shop. Good luck with settling in with your little one. http://www.argmc-ae.com/en-find-a-doctor/dr-jadwiga-mierzewska

I'm confused that OP's first question is about jewellery.... does the sequence of questions make any difference. or am addressing a seminar Well, if your first concern is jewellery and watches and you don't trust someone not to flog them, I really don't understand how you can leave the most precious ones in your life with them.

My sister's butcher used to give her special scraps for her beloved cat. My 9 month pregnant sister with 3 other kids in tow went to butcher the day after having to euthenase her cat (sorry, Roysie). Butcher asked how much meat she wanted for cat. 3 year old yelled out loudly 'Mummy's pussy's dead'.

I sponsor a full time maid and wanted to share [b'>it[/b'> Really? It??? :\: maybe sharing "the costs"?? anyway its illegal you are responsible for the maid as you sponsor her. if you allow her to go and work elsewhere how do you know that is what she is doing you are accountable as the sponsor. I am fully aware of the legalities of sponsorship. Wish I wasn't surprised constantly by the way people refer to other human beings.

maybe they quote by the inch? DH will love that! I just booked an appointment for him to re-investigate, will report back costs in June. Word from his doc was that it is indeed done routinely here, and by many different nationalities and cultures..... You may not want to quote the actual price unless it's quite high or your DH may be embarrassed...:\: The guys driving Armadas to the hospital have the lowest bill, whilst the ones driving Kia Picantos have to take out a second mortgage... Seriously, thanks ladies, while I will take on advice about getting it done at home, we don't get home very often and can't imagine hubby agreeing to take a few days out of surfing to get it done, or sit on an 18 hour flight with bruised jewels.....

Fantastic news! Thanks. Yes, I imagine the quantity of ops will be the most pressing concern for hubby - because of course his jewels are the most precious on Earth... 10k or 10 at Hamad? Cheaper than having another kid even if its 10k, but if its 10 that's amazing - can't even get a cuppa for that!

) Yes you probably would not be at champagne brunch every week - but god - why would you want to when you have the beach and pools that your little one would LOVE to spend time at. I think that you would be giving your child an amazing start in life and also there are some of us here that are able to live (God forbid) on less than 50,000 AED per month!!!! Go For it darling x I never implied that people can't live on less than 50k a month - I wrote that that is the amount that single Mum friends of mine make. It is no use converting back to money at home if rents, school fees, visas. health insurance, pool memberships etcetec are not at parity.

http://theshapeofamother.com/ This website might help you realise that you're not alone and take away some of the pressure applied by people who think it's easy and perfectly normal to 'snap' right back to shape. You have produced another human out of your body, it is never going to be same, but what a wonder it has achieved!

Sorry - it's in a small shopping complex called The Centre - on Salwa Road, near Ramada Plaza. Be prepared for a shock with prices - I know Hipp is about 30% more than what we were paying in UAE.

if you id card has been delivered to a post office far away, you can ask for it to be delivered to the post office of your choice, it may take them 3 days or so, but you can do that, there is no need to have to drive half way to saudi to collect it. It would have been faster to drive there than the time I wasted sitting on the phone that never answered. i thought you could do it on the eida website etc. and that would be such an efficient transaction...... she has never been asked for it in the two years she has had one, so I'm not sweating about it. edited by DesertBoot on 28/04/2012

Sorry you're having a time of it... I thought this was about the UAE Tipping Point - you know, when you get two buckets on arrival - one to fill with money one to fill with sh*t, when either one is at tipping point, get out. lol...how do you know when they are full? Our poo bucket far outweighs the money one. haha

Don't want to scare you, but any search on them comes up with scam enquiries and a search on the Abu Dhabi Chamber of Commerce business register says that they have 1 employee, not alot of capital and are British Virgin Island based. If they are legit make sure you get a contract in English and go through it well before agreeing to anything.

It's the same in Doha where the lack of IKEA drive greed . I have come across a 2nd hand ikea highchair for sale at exactly double the UAE price . Mind you the dribble and regurgitated puree stuck to it may have driven up the value ! I thought I was going nuts - just saw a kid's rocker toy advertised for 300QR - we have one and I thought, 'there's no way we would have spent more than 300 on that!', looked it up onine IKEA - it's 155dirhams, give me a break.

besides the longer hours, I find the mentality of employers here frustrating as opposed to 'home' - where it was recognised that if you had to leave early for a medical appointment, sick kid etc, then you would make the hours up the next day etc - trust and compromise does not exist here.

I! I think the lesson to be learnt here is that being able to afford a maid just doesnt mean getting the deposit together and being able to pay her a salary. It means having enough to cover keeping a person with regards to good medical care, sending a person home for whatever reason - no matter how soon after her arrival, and being able to lose the fees associated with having a maid should things go completely pear shaped. edited by DesertRose1958 on 23/03/2012 The best response I have ever seen on this forum. Thank you.

without preaching, it would be better if did Weightwatchers or the like online with support from his parents. he would then learn about portion control, food selection and cooking healthily which he can carry through his whole life, as a delivery option won't actually him these skills. Sorry, i know that's not what you asked

I am not on role any more but can give you directions - voting is in the Queensland Government Office which is next to the Australian Embassy on the 8th floor of the Muhairy Centre in Khalidiya - their number is 02635 0013. If you get onto Airport Road, follow it until you get to 7th street, then do a left onto 7th street, the Muhairy Centre will be on your left hand side, you will need dirham coins as it is all paid parking around there. hope that helps a bit!

Confidentiality - that the neighbours and their maids don't know how much you earn, when you last had your period, when you had a barney with your husband etc Breakages - what will be accepted as general work breakages and what will be counted as carelessness and disregard for your belongings - and how you expect that tp be remediated Electricity and water consumption - we had help who thought it perfectly ok to wasg one tea towel etc. Most importantly - emergency plan - does she know what to do if she or child is sick, injured? House on fire? Also, what medications is she allowed to give kids, etcetec?

I'd put a whole heap of fake weeping sores on baby's hands and face, and have the maid say that it is an undiagnosed, highly contagious disease. She'll drop the toys like hotcakes.

I don't know what your salary would be, but it would have to be substantial to cover what you will need. I have a few friends who are single mums here and they are in high management roles so their salaries are at least 50,000 a month. Just check legally, if you would be able to sponsor your child as a woman - one friend couldn't take a job here as there was no father mentioned on birth certificate of her son - so she could never sponsor him. If your child has a living father that is mentioned on BC, the Dad will have to give your written permission to come here. Also, some companies will not pay the same allowances to certain roles or females as another role or a male would get - for example, I would have to pay out of my pocket to sponsor and get health insurance for our child, because I am not a high enough level at my work. Logistically, it's a nightmare - childcares close really early compared to working hours, close for long periods during Ramadan etc, we both work, child goes to nursery, but we still have to have a live in maid due to these reasons. Schools and nurseries are expensive and some are hard to get into. I don't want to be negative, and as I said I know some who do it, but it is a hard and money consuming slog - you would want to be on a very good salary in an understanding company (which are far and few between here). Good luck.
