I highly recommend Mr Ali Faisal - Mobile: 0555528260 for curtains, blinds and wallpapers. Ali takes pride in delivering his work to high standard. I am just so pleased that I made the wise deci...
I recently used Ali, based on the recommendations here. Have to agree with all that was said, he and his assistant were very professional, on time and offered suggestions to suit my layout. Mine was only a small order (2 windows) but it made no difference to him. Reasonably priced comparable with another company who quoted, but I felt happier with Ali. I'm glad I went with him am very pleased with the result.

We stayed at the Anantara in Bophut, unfortunately I can't comment on things for children though as we were only adults. The position of the Anantara was perfect as you walk to the hotel beach, nip around the fence and your at the start of Fishermans Village so plenty of restaurants within easy walking distance. The hotel was good but is showing a few signs of age now e.g a few cracks in the tiles but the place and room was clean and the small imprerfections didn't bother us at all.

Thanks for the update What-evs, it's been over 6 years since I left HMRC and things do change. I agree, you should complete the p46 (expat) instead of the now defunct P86, everything else should be the same.

When you return to the UK you should complete form P86 "coming to the UK" or something like that. As you will be going back at the start of a new tax year you won't need to worry about what you have earnt over here, if you weren't going back until later in the year then they can tax your worldwide income for the whole year. Your last P45 won't be valid as it was for a previous tax year and the code won't apply now. Until HMRC process your P86 and update your records then it's highly likely you will be on emergency tax code, however, emergency tax code is different to basic rate tax code. On emergency it means that you will still get your tax free allowance each month but on a month by month basis not on a cumulative basis. Any tax overpaid will be refunded once HMRC notify your employer of the correct cumulative code to operate.

My understanding is that you only need yellow fever if you are coming from (or have been to?) an infected country. We didn't have the vaccine and didn't get asked or checked. We went in November and surprisingly had no problem with mozzies - and I always get bitten. I did spray all exposed areas though. There are two immigration areas at the airport, don't go to the first one carry on and turn right (I think) past the shops, it was much quieter. Just don't forget to complete the form before you get to the counter - the forms are on a desk about 15 feet away from the immigration booths.

Also if you register your book on their website, you get monthly offers - for February they have about 5 different brunch options. We went to La Parilla, not your normal brunch as a la carte main course and smaller selection of buffet starters and desserts (but different to the norm) and they served Laurent Perrier bubbly. Oh yes almost forgot they also have a Latino band and two tango dancers put on a show every now and again. We loved it and ready to go back again.

Hi Merlin 1, an advanced welcome to Dubai! You are more than welcome to come on your own if DH is away, I know just the table that you can join, they're a friendly bunch :-) (sorry can't find the smilies!) Tickets are selling quite quickly but you should be OK for the next week or so.

Just to clarify re the NRL1 - this is not to claim UK non residence status this is to allow you to receive your rent without tax being deducted at the basic rate at source. If you don't complete this form then your agent or tenant should withold the tax amount. As others have said you still need to complete tax returns, you will get your personal allowance against it and you can claim mortgage interest only.

Yes Koh Samui, as Mammamia says it's a lovely little airport but there is some outside walking involved when you depart (not on arrival).

I wouldn't recommend Chaeweng with children as it's very much a party place. We stayed in Bophut at the Anantara which is right next to Fishermans village where all the restaurants and shops are.

As Jodel said, taxis are plentiful in the marina and drive around constantly looking for fares. The only times you may have trouble are in the evenings and Friday lunchtime when many people are going to brunch. If you are staying in a hotel they often have their own cars which you pay a little bit more for, but not that much. You are spoilt for choice for restaurants in the marina / JBR walk area but remember that if you want grapes or hops with your dinner you can only get this in hotel restaurants.

It may be the Marhaba lounge in Dubai you can use rather than Emirates own as several credit cards give access to the Marhaba one. We used the HSBC Premier card to gain access to the lounges in Doha and Beirut.

I tried brown rice years ago but hated it as it was always hard, have tried it again recently and it's much better, don't know if that's down to the one I buy or the way I cook it. I use Tilda brown basmati rice and cook it in a normal steamer, for white rice I cook it for 20 minutes but the brown takes about 30 - 35 minutes and about 50% more water. Even DH is happy to eat the brown rice, so it must be OK! For coconut cream get the light / lite version, it's not totally fat free but per serving has 3.6g saturated fat, no trans fat and no cholesterol. Agree about the wholewheat pasta though, yuck!

I've just bought the American Heart Association Low-Fat, Low-Cholesterol cookbook from Kinokuniya in Dubai Mall. Unfortunately there are no pictures, which I like to see what it's meant to turn out like, but they do have many nice recipes and a lot of information about cholesterol and what you should and shouldn't eat. Often I find most recipe book,s especially of this kind, only have a few recipes I want to try but this has a lot IMO.

I live closer to Geant so go there for most of my shopping needs such as household goods, tins and the like, but do go elsewhere for fruit, veg and meat. Will definitely give the new co-op a go though.

We used Arabian Windows, they come to the house/apartment measure up and will match the colour of the frames. We had one screen door and 5 pull down (roller blind type) screens. Took about 2 - 3 weeks to arrive and didn't take long to fit (although you have to hoover up the mess afterwards) Very pleased with them and price is excellent. We contacted Harris on 050 709 3035, he'll bring a sample with him if you ask.

Went last week, didn't need a permit. Open 10:00 - 16:00 although they start shutting up shop from about 15:30. Plenty of flamingo's when we went, I find the one on the 66 is the best, they also have some binoculars you can borrow.

Yes Hunters is in the Fine Dining, I agree with you Simpleasabc the salts are wonderful especially the Hawaiin black salt with butter on their delicious bread. Uh ho can feel another visit coming on..... Other than Hunters, I agree with the others about Ruth's Chris Steak House and West 14th (which also has a jazz group), all in the Fine Dining. I think they're all roughly the same price, as is Meat & Co but it's far inferior to the other three and not worth it, in my opinion.

Bruising is not the norm but does seem to vary from doctor to doctor and person to person, I've been with other people to the same clinic at the same time and some have bruised and others haven't. Yes, at both Safa and Al Badaa you can just walk in, no appointment needed. Only Safa has the typing centre in house, for Al Badaa you need to go to a typing centre first. <em>edited by Taffyduck on 28/10/2011</em>

SM not sure if Al Badaa is Satwa or not, however, I've had medicals done at both Safa and Al Badaa and didn't notice any real difference in the service and patient care. True Al Safa does offer the VIP service, for which you pay extra and it does have a typing centre at the clinic which is a bonus, however, it does not offer a private blood taking room which the OP was specifically asking about.

It was only recently but I can't remember if the DNRD attached a piece of paper to the pink residence visa paper or not, anyway whatever the DNRD gave me I gave to the typing centre. I also took along copies of mine and my husbands passport and his visa page. I think the basic cost was AED420 but I paid an extra AED100 for 48 hour service, I think you can pay a further AED100 for 24 hour service. No appointment needed but get there early, I arrived around 09:30 and it was fine but I forgot to get my papers typed beforehand, when I got back they had done their 50 (but the lady was very nice and let me do mine as I'd been there earlier).

I recently went to Al Badaa (sp?) clinic behind Shangri La hotel. You wait outside the room and go in one at a time to have your blood taken. They only do 50 a day so I'd suggest you get there early. Get your papers typed first at a typing centre then go to the clinic. I was in an out within 15 minutes.
