Is this definite? As in is it definitely dry from Friday night? Just trying to figure out whether to stay in or go out for hubby's birthday! edited by ishinami on 21/10/2014

Thanks folks but these camps are for kids aged 4-14, mine are just 2 and 3 and 10 months so not quite 4 yet.

Both my kids are at Littlewoods and DS has been there for almost 3 years now, they both love it. Lots of personal attention to the kids, lovely facilities, teachers and assistants are all wonderful, and the kids do heaps of art, swimming lessons, time spent in the library and garden/gym and it's just a really great nursery. I always get a call the minute the kids are ill in any way, you get email updates with movies and photos of your child, I couldn't be happier.

accidentally take our maxi cosi car seat which was in a sunshine kids car seat (black) travel bag from the oversized luggage area in Terminal 3, at around 2.30am on Friday night/Saturday morning (Jan 5th)??? We accidentally took someone else's sunshine kids bag with their booster seats in it. We think they must have already taken our bag by mistake as there were no other bags like it there, we returned their bag when we realised our mistake in the taxi queue outside. So annoyed that our bag still hasn't turned up and apparently we can't claim compensation unless we file the papers before we clear customs.

Also if you want some nice ones then they had elle macpherson ones in Bloomingdales and if they are on sale, as they probably are now, then worth buying. You need to ask the assistant for the nursing bras, as they are not always on display and sometimes in the drawer.

In addition to the curriculum you want your children to follow, numbers of hours you'll need and whether you'll want somewhere which does camps during the summer, spring and winter holidays, and proximity to your home, you should also think about food, napping, whether you want your children to have access to other activities like swimming, music classes, etc. Willow, for example, seems like an excellent nursery but doesn't appear to have anywhere for the kids to nap! Homegrown really does get good reviews but doesn't provide meals. Cooper also doesn't provide food from what I recall.

hi sorry been meaning to reply to this for ages but I never seem to have time to login these days! DS has been at Littlewoods for 2 year now from the age of 6 months as I had to go back to work then. I really like Littlewoods, the facilities are excellent, they do Kindermusik, swimming twice a week and provide meals which when you are working and even if you are not, is really helpful. On the downside, there have been three headmistresses in the time we have been there and the latest one just seems to get rid of staff at a moment's notice. I must say though my son has not noticed any of the changes, he continues to receive excellent care there, they are extremely flexible and accommodating. I did go and look around at other nurseries recently including Willow, Inspire, Little Scholars, Little Wonders, etc., but I kept DS in Littlewoods as it really is a lovely nursery, they also do FS1 & FS2 in case you don't get into the school of your choice, and it's not so huge that your child is lost amongst all the other kids. They do lots of artwork, regular concerts, and are open from 7am to 6pm if you need to drop off early or pick up late. They also have dedicated spaces for the kids to sleep during the day which quite a few nurseries didn't. I am trying to be as unbiased as possible, so I hope this is helpful for you.

DS has a very slim waist and his uniform shorts are always falling down. There is no buckle belt on these shorts but rather than get one added, I would prefer to have the elastic in the waist altered to include buttons so we can adjust the waist as he grows. Can anyone recommend a tailor for children's clothes? And would you please include directions, I don't mind going to Satwa but I have no idea where to go in Satwa. TIA!

Hi DaisyDog, I really liked Willow too when I went to visit but it's a little far for us plus they didn't appear to have a specific cot or room for the babies to sleep in but that might have changed. LO is at Littlewoods and I love it there as does he. The baby room is superb, the staff are wonderful, they do lots of activities with swimming lessons twice a week plus kindermusik once a week as well as the usual arts, crafts, storytelling, babygym, etc. I like the fact that it is open all year round, they have the normal curriculum from 8-2 (but you can drop off from 7 and pick up till 3pm) then they provide daycare till 5/6pm, and they are really flexible, not the type of nursery to charge you if you are 15 minutes late. They have spring, winter and summer camps. You can do FS1 and FS2 there too if you wish. I would like to point out though that LO did cry the whole first day he was there but was totally settled in within a week and now just runs off without so much as a wave goodbye when I drop him off. There are lots of good nurseries though, you just need to figure what you need on top of it being a good nursery for your baby - ie opening hours, whether they provide a meal, where you baby will nap, range of activities, proximity to your work or home.

I have a Brevi change table unit with a bath built in under the change mat. We used the bath but till LO was 5 months ish but now we just use the whole unit as a spare change table for downstairs. The waterproof/wipeable change table cover has a number of slits and tears exposing the foam below. Does anyone know where I might be able to get the cover part of unit re-upholstered with a wipeable/waterproof cover?? Somewhere in Satwa maybe??

Can anyone recommend a qualified (not feet first, etc.) reflexologist for helping to bring on labour please? I did a search first but all the posts seems to be from 2009 and 2010, and given how transient Dubai is, I was hoping someone might have a recent recommendation. TIA! edited by ishinami on 27/07/2011

I have never used them but have seen these guys recommended on expatwoman before -> http://www.taxisdubai.com/ They seem to allow you to book you a carseat with the taxi. If you do use them, perhaps you could post a review for the rest of us? Good luck with the journey, at least you are escaping this heat! edited by ishinami on 27/07/2011

Just to follow up on this thread... we have the all the new 2012 model of the Hyundai Sante Fe and whilst the manual explains how to fit a LATCH/ISOFIX child car seat to your car, the model they sell in Dubai isn't equipped with LATCH/ISOFIX anchorage points sadly! (WHY OH WHY NOT??!) Anyway I have fitted the EASYFIX car seat base to the car with just a seat belt and it's very secure.

QV cream (available in all pharmacies) is great, and also try virgin olive oil or virgin coconut oil (available in the organic food store). What do you wash your baby in? Try just plain water in the bath and find the mustela products are very good, especially the self foaming body and hairwash. My nephew had terrible dry skin/eczema and is also allergic to many things so we did a patch test with the virgin coconut oil, when there was no reaction, we used it on all his dry patches and it cleared up really quickly.

I actually bought one to use inside our Quinny for the summer and it worked really well. Before we used it, LO was getting really sweaty and uncomfortable in the Quinny in the middle of the summer but after we started using the sheepskin insert, no sweat, happy baby! It's great in the winter too but we bought it primarily for use in the summer.

Yes it is expensive but LO is in from 8-2 and I can drop him off anytime from 7 and pick up anytime till 3pm. As I paid the full time 8-2 fee, all my camps ie winter, spring and summer were included this year in that price and they provide food, swimming lessons twice a week, kindermusik, Arabic, French, plus themed activities/arts/crafts based on the weekly theme. The baby room is by far the best I have seen, and there is a wonderful atmosphere there. I think this year if you pay the full year's fees (around 45k) in advance then they give a 10% discount (so 41k), include winter/spring camps plus one month of the summer camps in the price, although don't recall exactly. You pay extra for 2-5 which we currently don't need, and think they are open till 6pm. I think once you include all the camps and activities then divide the yearly cost by 12, it's actually not that much more than many other good nurseries. BUT I could definitely be wrong there so don't shoot me down for saying that! You just need to look around and find what works for you. I really liked Willow a lot but it's kind of far for us and the babies didn't seem to have their own cots or a specific room for daytime naps.

Littlewoods is also fantastic, it's in between Al Manara and Umm Al Sheif, closer to Al Manara end. I had a look around a number of the same nurseries as you. I really liked Inspire but they don't provide lunches and if you are working then that is quite a lot of extra work for you. Little Scholars, Willow and Littlewoods all provide meals. Willow and Littlewoods also do swimming as well as many other activities. All three are open year round and have camps during the summer/spring/winter. I am not mentioning the rest as I haven't seen them. I did go see Kensington and really thought it was awful, the rooms are tiny, the person showing me around couldn't have been less interested in nurseries and I found the place to be quite miserable, which is a real shame as I literally live across the road and it would have been my first choice.

Itzy Ritzy do those liners, and DubaiBabies sells the car seat covers but don't seem to have the shopping trolley ones on sale. Perhaps you could ask them to order for you or order directly from Amazon or Itzy Ritzy then shop n ship.

Hi Green-ish - well the UAE Hyundai site only lists specs for the 2010 model but I have just bought the 2012 model. I had a look on the USA website and it states that the Santa Fe has the Rear LATCH child-seat-attachment system which I guess is similar to ISOFIX although I don't know if my EASYFIX maxi-cosi base will attach to LATCH. Now that I am actually in possession of the car, you are right edna.welthorpe, I will look in the car manual!! On a unrelated note, I went over 5 km over 100km on SZR and some man piped up in what I can only assume is Arabic to presumably announce I am speeding! Normally I would expect this at 120km, but not at 105km and not an Arabic warning but some sort of beeping. Any way to turn off the this warning? I would prefer a beep!

The Dubai Ladies Club aqua aerobics class is brilliant, I have been going on and off for a while (am 35 weeks now). There's generally one or two pregnant women in the class and the instructor always suggests what moves you can do if the one the class is doing doesn't accommodate your bump. You just go at your own pace and take it easy if it's too much for you. I suggest you bring a bottle of water though and put it is by the side of the pool to sip through the class.

There are lots of Pest Control companies but we've used National Pest Control twice now, they are very thorough, once before we moved in as we're in a villa and there were roaches plus ants. I've not seen anything since we moved in almost a year ago but I had them in before the summer just in case! I think I will have them in every 6 months as this is a hot country with roaches so it's just one of those things you have to do. The problem with an apartment is that they can crawl in up the drains or under the door if your neighbours aren't as meticulous as you. I would recommend keeping sinkholes plugged when not in use and just regular pest control.

I just checked with Evision (Etisalat) and they assured me it will be shown on Al Jazeera Sports, specifically on JSC +2 and JSC +3. I would assume it would be the same channels for Du although last year I asked Du to add Al Jazeera Sports to my package before Wimbledon started, the whole tournament came and finished ... Several calls to Du later and apparently no one possessed the skill set to add this extra tv package to my existing package! But Du's abysmal customer service is an entirely separate thread! I can feel my blood pressure rising just mentioning Du and Wimbledon in the same sentence.

I have had sinusitus when I was breastfeeding and when pregnant, and both times the Dr offered me Amoxicillin which is considered safe during pregnancy so like the others say, please go and see your Dr. I also had terrible sinus headaches and Panadol Sinus worked like a dream - my Dr checked the ingredients and said that was also fine to take in pregnancy although I only took 2 a day and only when the pain was unbearable. You could also try and nasal spray or steaming your face over a bowl of hot water, you can get rid of your blackheads at the same time, bonus!!

Actually it's not that difficult, please check the latest passport photo guidelines but when we did LO's British passport about 18 months ago, you just had to submit a photo where the baby's mouth was shut, it doesn't matter if there eyes are open or not. So we just had a photo taken with LO asleep in his bassinet. then they put the right background on via photoshop and printed out a bunch of passport photos for us. Of course he is stuck for 5 years with a photo in his passport of him at 8 days old with his eyes shut but apparently that is perfectly acceptable! These days I take my own photos on my camera, and then get the nice man at the Photo Shop by Geant in Ibn Battuta to crop it and make it into a passport photo.

Thanks for your feedback ladies. My son is actually already in a nursery but we want to move him to one closer to where we live as we have moved since he started nursery plus the one he is in now is super expensive. Don't worry about your LO getting ill, DS was constantly ill for the first 2 months but since then (over the last year) he has barely got sick at all, just the odd cold. Like you say, it's all part of building up their immunity. Carolinejm, DS is 17 months also so will probably be in the same class as your LO! We are going to have him start in the summer with summer camp then properly once term starts in September. I am probably going to go back to work at some point so I think Little Scholars provides the best support for working mothers in terms of opening hours, provision of food and transport. I saw LOTS of nurseries which I liked but none of them provided food so had to cross a number of them off my list. . . so happy to hear your DD is loving it there.

Hi Sarah, welcome back! 1. You will probably find that newer models of cars are all isofix compatible, I have a Nissan Qashqai which works with Isofix although it took the guy in the garage about 45 minutes to fit it in for me!! You just need to check the model of car you buying. 2. Bumps and babes coffee mornings run by Expatwoman would be good for you with your 5 month old, also google babysplashdubai for classes, LO started at 4 months and loves it. You could also try Kindermusik or there are lots of playgroups or other activities like buggyfit if you want to do a spot of exercise together with LO. 3. Would highly recommend Dr Khan at Cooper Health Clinic, thing I like most about him is that he is very reluctant to give out antibiotics unlike many other Drs, and is always reachable on his mobile in case something happens out of hours. He's fab with kids.

Izzy99, the situation in Fukushima is not like Chernobyl because the reactor type is totally different and even if they can't cool the reactor easily the radiation will be contained in a way that was impossible in the Chernobyl disaster. The radiation released in Fukushima is likely only to impact a 30 km radius at most in the worst case scenario. The reason Japan has nuclear reactors is because it has no natural resources of its own, they have no way to produce electricity other than to import it or use nuclear energy. The reason the Americans might not feel they can stop Japan from having nuclear energy, well it might have something to do with the fact they tested two nuclear bombs on Japan. Japan, as the only nation to experience the devastation of atomic attack, has expressed its abhorrence of nuclear arms and is determined never to acquire them. SO comparing Japan to Iran, is frankly, ridiculous.

Sorry to cause a stir! I was pregnant all the way through Ramadan a couple of years ago and gave birth just after Eid. At Medcare, they shut the hospital cafeteria (the one the public uses) during daylight so if you had an appointment during the day then it was impossible to get any food or drnk. At that stage of pregnancy I was constantly starving, and even if I carried food and drink with me, I felt really bad to eat or drink in the waiting room even though I know pregnant women are exempt. They even removed the water cooler from the waiting area where all the pregnant women would sit and wait. I was always waiting an hour or so to see my Dr at Medcare, and right at the end, I was forever having CT scans to check for foetal movement. Of course the baby was never moving cos it was sleeping during the day, and then I would get a note from my Dr for permission to go to the staff canteen to eat something and drink some OJ to make the baby move. I worry what DH will eat if I am in labour during Ramadan, he's not organised enough to bring sandwiches from home, although obviously he would be fine. Also I would rather not have anyone operating on me if they have been fasting. Last time thankfully it was a natural birth.

I don't know if this is helpful but I really think you should just let her go home, cancel her visa, terminate her employment and get a new maid. Our maid asked for an advance once and I told her no immediately as like you say where does it end. I treat her well, give her a good salary, lots of extras and have bought presents for her childrens' birthdays, provide extra at Christmas and birthdays, end of year bonus, and don't expect to be asked for more than her monthly salary. Also we only get paid once a month from our employers, no advances allowed and we have to save for a rainy day. The more you earn, the more you want, it's just part of the human condition but everyone needs to learn to live within their means and your maid just needs to learn that too. Like you say she or her family should have put aside for a rainy day, just like we have to. You are not her credit card facility, I really think there are plenty of other maids who are not moody and you would be best to cut ties, and next time don't ever offer any advances, make that clear at the interview.

Thanks for all your replies, we are actually going away for a couple of weeks in April and was thinking I could get her started on some lessons then as she won't have anything else to do and seems to get quite stressed when we go away! Then I could help her with what she is learning with her teacher rather than teach her myself. I will try the Phillipines Embassy, I would like her to get some formal lessons first before I try to teach her.

I had a search for Little Scholars and not sure what I was doing wrong but couldn't find any relevant threads on this forum. Does anyone have any good/bad feedback? I have looked at Inspire which I loved but I really need a place which provides lunch. I also looked at Blossom Village and Willow both of which I like although bit worried about some of the negative feedback on Blossom village and lack of beds for naps at Willow, so ultimately Little Scholars is the closest to where we live and although they are shut at Christmas and Easter, we can work round that. I just want somewhere where DS will be happy and challenged and inspired.

I'm in the same position as some of you. LO will be 22 months when this next one arrives, and am keen to get the Baby Jogger City Select based on online reviews. We are back in the UK in April so am thinking of buying then and bringing back to Dubai with me. Due to time constraints and as we wouldn't have a buggy with us, we'd need to order before seeing and have it as soon as we arrive in the UK. I would however love to have a look at one before purchasing online. Will any of you lovely ladies have one before mid April which I could have a look at please??
