Hi Tess123, Sorry to hear you are going through this. I understand how hard it can be. Our LO was born at the end of 2012 and she is just amazing, thanks. Hang in there and get a 2nd, 3rd, 4th opinion if you are not happy with your doctor. I am so glad we did - just sorry we left it so long. Like I said before, I cannot recommend Dr. Mohd enough but it really is a personal choice. Good luck ladies and stay strong. You WILL all get your BFP's! Its the waiting thats the hardest part! x

Hi HS, I would strongly recommend buying the Clearblue Fertility Monitor. I found it excellent and reassuring to see that I was actually ovulating every month. You cannot get the sticks here but you can buy them online and have them delivered here. Please shout if I can help or answer any further questions!

Hi B2B, If you run a word search on TTC you will find lots of threads on this topic on the forum which are really very helpful. It requires a minimum of 4 characters for the search but just use the space bar once or twice after the letters TTC and it will allow you to run the search. Good luck!

Hi EDF8, I went to see a fantastic physio called Christine Fisher. She used to be based at City but is now based at Primavera Medical Centre in Health Care City. I would highly recommend her - although the physio didnt get rid of the SPD completely, it did improve drastically so I would def go to see her. Good luck!

Hi Homesick, Apologies but I havent been online all weekend. If you run a couple of searches here, you will find mixed reviews on all of the fertility specialists. It really is a personal choice as to who you feel comfortable with. The general consensus is to make an appointment with a few different doctors to get a few different opinions and then, if you do decide to go down the fertility route, then at that stage you will know who you are most comfortable with. There are 3 main clinics here which have been here for some time - DGFC (Healthcare City), Concieve (Sharjah) and Dr. Fakih (Jumeirah). There are also a couple of newer clinics which have opened up very recently here but I havent heard much about them - maybe someone else on the forum could help you with that. We decided to see a couple of different Drs in the beginning just to see what their opinion on our situation was and if they considered fertility treatment necessary for our case. The first clinic I managed to get an appointment with was DGFC, Dr. Mohammad. I had done some research on here with regards to this Dr - it can sometimes be very difficult to get through to this clinic initially to make the appointment but I fortunately got through straight away; some ladies liked Dr. Mohd, some felt rushed by him, some felt him to blunt but we decided to go with an open mind. I had also planned to meet with Dr. Fakih. The first day I met with Dr. Mohd, I liked him immediately. He was very 'to the point', direct and immediately suggested further tests to clarify what would be the best route to take. I was in a situation where I was sick of waiting so I very much appreciated his direct approach - not for everyone perhaps but it was exactly what I needed at the time. I then cancelled the appointment with Dr. Fakih and decided, as I was so comfortable with Dr. Mohd, to go ahead with him. It was then that we realised that my husband's results were low (when we had been assured by the previous Obgyn that his results were very good up to this point). Dr. Mohd recommended going down the IVF route, which we did and after 1.5 cycles, we got our positive result. Throughout both cycles, there were times where decisions had to be made - I trusted him implicitly when asking for advice and he always seemed to be genuine in his responses. We consider ourselves extremely lucky. At the same time, we are very happy that we decided to go for another opinion rather than trusting the information that was provided to us by the 2 previous Drs at the time. Different clinics charge different rates and it depends very much on the amount of medication required for your cycle should you go for IVF. Concieve seems to charge less than the other 2 clinics, then DGFC, then Dr. Fakih who is apparently the most expensive of the 3. Our 1st cycle, had we completed it (we only did half a cycle due to hormone issues) would have cost us 28k. The 2nd full cycle cost in the region of 24k, all inclusive but again, like I mentioned, this depends on the amount of medication you need throughout. I would highly recommend meeting with a couple of these Drs Homesick even if just for peace of mind. It also made me feel like I was taking control of the situation and doing something about it rather than just waiting month after month. It gave me a very positive feeling and as you can imagine, we were and still are so so please that we decided to take that route. If you have any other questions, please feel free to get in touch. Otherwise, if you want to email me, feel free to put up your details and I will get in touch. Its a tough road but you will get there in the end. The waiting bit is the hardest part! Good luck and as I said, feel free to ask, ask, ask! x

Hi Homesick, I was about to log off and I saw your post and had to reply. I was in a similar situation to you and it really is very frustrating and upsetting to have to deal with such a situation. Its not something I had even considered would happen to me so when we got married, I just presumed it would 'happen' without any issues. It got more and more frustrating the more the months passed and AF reared her ugly head! I was with a Dr that had a good reputation in the UAE who, even after 1 year of TTC and with no result, still refused to do any tests on me as "I had lots of time"! This was obviously not what I wanted to hear so I changed my Dr. I then started to see another Dr who prescribed tests for both myself and my husband immediately. I came out with extremely elevated prolactin levels which needed to be treated immediately and my husbands sperm results were "excellent"! I went to see an Endo who carried out all tests possible, MRI etc to confirm there was no tumour and I was then treated for high prolactin. The medication he put me on was supposed to take immediate effect. Funnily enough I fell pregnant 2 months later which unfortunately ended in early MC. My Dr assured me that it would happen again immediately as apparently you are at your most fertile straight after MC and several months later, nothing had happened. At this stage, we were both clueless so I suggested we go to see a fertility specialist just to be 100% sure that nothing was worng - couldnt hurt to get a 2nd opinion in my head! We went to see a fertility specialist who carried out further tests including tests on my husband. When the specialist suggested this, I informed him that there was no need, that my husbands results were "excellent". It turned out, my previous Dr had only carried out the basic tests (although she had told me that all tests had been performed) and that his results were actually quite poor! We were referred for fertility treatment and our baby is due before the end of this year - we are very excited! All of that long drawn out story to say - go for a 2nd opinion.... and even a 3rd if you wish! If we had waited, we would still be on the rollercoaster of TTC and would have known no better. Question everything until you get to the bottom of it! Im not saying that you may need fertility treatment but it cannot hurt to go see a specialist.... even if its just for peace of mind. Perhaps other people may not be of the same opinion but personally, I am kicking myself that we did not go to see a specialist beforehand.... we were too trusting of the Dr I was seeing at the time and believed everything she had told us! The very best of luck with what you decide - if you have any other questions, please feel free to ask. You will find a lot of threads on this forum on similar topics so run some searches but also feel free to ask! Wishing you all the very best x

Hi zoco, Im not sure if you will be back on this board but I just wanted to say how very sorry I am that you have been through such a rough time. I can relate to and understand your feelings and like you said, would not wish it on my worst enemy. Take some time out to concentrate on yourself and hubby and be good to yourselves. It really is a very rocky road and a difficult situation to have to deal with. However, please do remember that there are alternative options out there that are worth exploring such as egg donation, adoption etc. If these are roads that you would be comfortable exploring, then it doesnt have to be the end of the road for you. Again, I just wanted to say how very sorry I am for your disappointment and wish you the very best. Take care of yourself and stay strong! x

Good morning ohbelle6c, It sounds as if you are suffering from SPD. I have been suffering from SPD from about 6 months too and it can be very painful. The only way I can describe it is a very bad ache in the groin area whenever you get up from sitting down, walk a lot or as you mention, turn over in bed.... so basically whenever you move! Again the dr explained the same thing, its due to the hormone relaxin, which softens all of your joints and essentially your pubic bone ligaments are being stretched which causes the pain. I went to see my doctor who referred me immediately to a physiotherapist. I carried out 4 or 5 physio sessions which made a huge difference. I have not been taking medication throughout the pregnancy so wanted to avoid that if I could and honestly speaking, the physio was a huge help. She gave me lots of pointers as to how to minimise the pain and although it has never gone away completely (I am now 35 weeks), it definitely helped a lot. It has unfortunately come back in the past few weeks and the Dr has said that now with the pressure on my cervix that I just have to live with it until the baby arrives but again, keeping the exercises going still helps. I would suggest you make an appointment with a physio as soon as you can as it really can be very painful to live with. The physio I saw was in HCC and she was really very good. Let me know if you would like her details and I can pass them onto you. The tips she gave were really very helpful! Sorry I cant be of more help and I hope the pain diminishes for you.

Hi Zoco, Sorry I have just seen your thread now. I can totally relate to what you are going through. We had treatment earlier this year and it is a bit of a rollercoaster ride for sure! But you have to put all of that down to hormones and remember that what you are doing, as difficult as it is at the moment, is a means to an end. Any of the ladies who have been down that road know how difficult this is but once you get your result, it will all seem a distant memory to you. Please try to relax and just focus on why you are doing all of this. Try to keep yourself busy and, as difficult as it is, try not to dwell on it too much. I think that really makes it easier. I wish you all the very best for the next few days!

Hi TB, Well I decided to do the test on the Sunday night as I was in the office on the Monday morning and I didnt want to get the call in the office in case the result was negative as I was afraid of getting upset in front of my colleagues. I was also as I said 14dp3dt so I knew at that stage that there couldnt be much of a difference in the levels so late after my transfer.... how many days after transfer will you be? Good luck - will be thinking of you!!!!

Hi TB! Sorry I havent been on in a while but hope your transfer went well. I remember reading that there are stages to the 2WW and I found it helpful to be aware of them as I was a classic case LOL! What a cliche! The first 4-6 days you are hopeful, positive etc as the buzz of the transfer is still with you. Then after that, for a few days you will start to wonder and towards the end, you may be convinced it didnt work. Sounds pretty dismal but try to keep your spirits up! Like HB, I was convinced 100% that it hadnt worked. I was due my blood test on the Monday morning and on the Friday / Saturday mornings beforehand I woke up with such bad AF cramps (or so I thought) that I was in tears regularly throughout the day. I was just so disappointed. By the Sunday night, I couldnt wait any more so bought some tests on the way home from work and tested that night (I was 14p3dt anyway) and thought there wasnt going to be a miraculous difference between a hpt and a blood test the following morning at 8am and it was positive!!!!!!!!!!! I couldnt believe it as I was SO sure it hadnt worked! So all that just to tell you to try to keep your spirits high. Even when you think you are getting horrible AF type pains, its not always as it seemd :) HB, just take it easy while you can! Dont be worrying about anything else and enjoy it while you can! I was told for the 1st trimester not to exercise either so I was happy to lie around in between the bouts of MS lol!

Wow all of you ladies are so organised :) Well done! TDB, dont worry about your bubs being underweight - as your doctor said, there is nothing to worry about and think, in the last trimester you will probably pile on lots more weight! You can have some of mine if you like :) Well, we have just started on the shopping list but have lots of research done so we know now what we want and where to buy it. Its just getting out there and buying it! Started on it yesterday and I was just shattered after about 2 hours! Not able for marathon walks around shopping malls anymore! :( How many babygros, PJ's etc have you ladies decided to get... I know ppl say dont go out and buy loads but still... you dont want to not have enough either! And as this is our first, I really have no idea! TIA!

Hi all, Back from leave and back to reality with a bang! I have a quick question please - have any of you started experiencing a stiffness / soreness in your joints, particularly in the morning? In the past couple of weeks when I wake, my fingers have been very stiff and sore. I have had a read up and was wondering if this could be carpal tunnel but I am only almost 26 weeks so was wondering if it was too early for something like carpal tunnel? Also, I do not feel like my fingers are swollen at all, my rings still fit as before. I already drink in the region of about 2.5 litres of water a day (plus herbal teas, juice etc) and dont think I could physically drink any more! Hope everyones pregnancy is going well!

Hilsbils, HUGE congratulations! I have been away on leave but have been following your thread and just saw your fabulous news this morning! I am almost 25 weeks gone after treatment too - I also had 3 transferred and have a lovely singleton onboard. I remember feeling horribly normal too coming up to my test date with awful AF type cramps and pains. I was convinced it hadnt worked but my test was obviously positive! :) My symptoms didnt really hit til about week 7 but everyone is different. By week 6 I was feeling scarily normal and then the next week it hit with a vengeance LOL! I was quite ill until about week 14 but it was unnervingly reassuring! Anyway, just take good care of yourself, mind what you eat, no heavy lifting etc and just ENJOY! If you want to contact me about anything, please feel free. I would be delighted to share any info if I can be of help! x

Hi TDB, Dont stress about movement - it can happen anytime up to 24 weeks from what I have heard. About 2 weeks ago, I started to get a feeling in my lower tummy that I couldnt figure out. I thought it was to do with "bathroom activity" too lol but as it continued I realised it wasnt. I have heard too about the bubbles and popcorn feeling and I think its probably closer to bubbles but then I read another description for it on another forum and it describes it perfectly for me - its like a jumping nerve very low down in your tummy. You know when you have a nerve jumping somewhere? Thats exactly what it has felt like for me so far.... I only get it a few times a day - generally after Ive eaten or when Im sitting or lying quietly. You can notice it a lot more when you are not moving around. Ive also read that a couple of things can encourage it - lie down quietly and try either loud music (not deafening obviously lol but loud enough) or drinking a cold, sugary drink. Its funny - I noticed this the first time when I was in the cinema - watching a loud film obviously and drinking a Sprite! :) It was also very noticable the next time I went to the cinema too so not sure if its a coincidence but I want to go to the cinema all the time now :) Im having quite bad lower back pain and seeing an osteopath for this. He suggests that if you do have lower back pain this early that its good to have it looked at early in the pregnancy as it can develop to bad sciatica and they can treat it easier before your tummy expands too much :) Bathroom issues.... dont get me started!!! HTH!

Hi GG, Please dont worry about the pains (although I know its so much easier said than done) but I had exactly the same thing until maybe 7 weeks or so. I was convinced AF was on her way due to these pains as it felt EXACTLY like that - even down to the back ache I used to get every month but this is apparently just bubs getting comfy so please dont worry about it too much. Yes, you will worry - Im 19+3 today and still worry - so I think this is just part of the process, especially after all we went through to get where we are. They dont always do more than 1 test so not to worry there. If they are happy with your level for your dates, then there is no need to carry on monitoring your levels. They will check at the scan in a weeks time. Its very exciting! Let us know how you get on!

Good morning ladies, Just thought I would jump on board - Im 19+2 today. I have my anomaly scan next week and was just wondering if anyone could shed any light on it please? How long does it last? Should you eat beforehand or no? Do they recommend a full bladder or not? I know when I eat, bubs tends to get active so I dont want there to be too much activity going on in case they cannot scan the areas that need to be scanned lol. Have another scan this evening so hoping to know the gender 100% at that stage. We have an idea so far but waiting for 100% before we get excited and start planning! Hope all is going well for all of you ladies!

Hi G83, I also had high prolactin before treatment but mine was VERY high. I was put on treatment as soon as it was discovered as had been ttc for 1 year before even knew it was an issue. When they discovered it, the Dr said that it was no wonder nothing had happened as apparently high levels of prolactin can actually trick your body into thinking you are either already pregnant or breadfeeding.... This is what I was told anyway.... I had been taking Dostinex just once a week and this regulated my prolactin immediately from the 1st week. I agree with the ladies below. It would be a shame to waste a cycle if this is an issue so probably best to sort it out now. Your doctor should be able to provide treatment for it I would imagine... I stopped the treatment during the 2ww as they say to stop as soon as you suspect you may be pregnant. I have no idea on insulin Im afraid... Good luck!

Hi ladies, Just to add to the below post, the NT scan is not invasive at all. It is just an abdominal scan, like any other scan but it is longer as they check more than the run of the mill scan. They measure the baby all over :) but specifically measure the fold at the back of the neck to measure thickness of the skin there and also how much fluid is present. These are both indicators of DS & the other conditions mentioned below. The scan results are combined with a blood result to give you an approximate idea of how high your chances are of having a baby with any of these conditions. But the NT scan in itself is not invasive. Should your results indicate high chances of you having a baby with any of these conditions, then they will recommend further tests which ARE considered invasive. However the NT itself is just like any other scan. Whether this is reimbursed is generally at the discretion of your insurance company. HTH!

Thanks ladies for your wishes - it still seems too good to be true :) nickym - I always booked my appointments for 7.30am and got there just beforehand. The problem can sometimes be that they try to fit ppl in for a scan even if they dont have an appointment - which is good if you need an emergency scan but can lengthen the wait a little. Try to get in there as early as you can and you will definitely be in and out in no time. Good luck with your scan today!! jhazdg - have a good look through this site as there have been a lot of threads on this recently so you should get lots of opinions. However, I think its very important to go to meet with the drs before you make your decision. Good luck to you both!

No, they froze the embryos. My DH had to come in with me the same morning as EC to give his "donation" :) and they fertilise the eggs straight away. They are then frozen. I also had some left over and had the option to freeze those too. I have also heard that there are some restrictions on embryo freezing but they do it - perhaps as its a government hospital they are allowed to freeze? Im not sure on that.... I went to the clinic during day 2-3 of my cycle where I picked up a bag of meds for the next few days. My DH did my injections for me every evening (the star that he is!) so I didnt have to go every day but you can go if you wish to do that and the nurse will do them for you if you want. You go back 6-7 days after starting the injections and then they will generally bring you in every 2nd day for a scan to monitor things (depending on how the follicles are developing). They do not do checks for DS before transfer at DGFC but this is done at the 12 week NT scan. I had brought all of my previous tests to them to review at the beginning and Dr. Mohd asked for a couple of further tests to be done on me. He also asked for a details SA for my DH. Overstimulation causes OHSS but you are monitored so closely once the follicles start to grow that they will not allow this to happen. Its important to feel comfortable with your Dr. You discuss very private things with him and he will ultimately be the person to help you achieve your goal so you have to have faith in him. At one point in my treatment, we came to a crossroads and really did not have any clue about what to do. We asked his honest opinion and he gave it. Because we trusted him implicitly, we went with his suggestion and things turned out very positively. You have to trust the Dr who is treating you and believe that he knows best.... edited by Dallydoo on 12/06/2012

No probs HB, hope I can help! EC is egg collection. For my 1st cycle I got as far as egg collection but my hormones were not right for tranfer of embryos so they stopped the cycle there and froze the embryos. For my next cycle (I waited for 6 weeks), I could have just gone back at the transfer stage but the chances are higher obviously with another medicated cycle, as you get more eggs so we went for that option. So I had collection a 2nd time round and after that, due to a different protocol used by the Dr, my hormones were right this time around and they did transfer a few days later. Dr. Mohd was responsible for my treatment so I didnt have any dealings with Dr. Wael (although I saw him for 1 check up during my 1st trimester care as Dr. Mohd was away and he seemed very, very nice) but I know a couple of ppl who have seen Dr. Wael and are very happy with his care. Feel free to ask any other questions I might be able to help with!

Hi, I havent had any experience with Dr. Wael but I have had experience of Dr. Mohd in the same clinic who I found to be wonderful. I am now 14 weeks pregnant after 1.5 cycles with Dr. Mohd. I understand completely nickym's frustration as, if you go there during the day, it truly is a nightmare to be seen. However, once I had my 1st appointment with them, I scheduled every appointment after that for the 1st appointment of the day and I was generally in and out in 45 minutes (that includes scan and meeting with the Dr). The opening hours arent very practical but as I work, the 1st appointment of the morning was very practical and never took longer than 45 minutes. I had 1.5 cycles earlier this year and am so, so thankful to say that I am 14 weeks pregnant. I was with DGFC, Dr. Mohammad and found him to be wonderful. I know some ladies on here did not get a good feeling about him but I liked him from the very first meeting. He is to the point, thorough, open to questions, very approachable and always, always came back to me when I had a question either by email or by phone. I had planned on seeing other consultants here before I made my choice but was so happy with our first meeting with him that we just decided to go with him. My 1st cycle was cancelled after EC and then I went ahead with another full cycle. I calculate the costs of both cycles (had they both been full cycles) and the difference was about Dhs4,000. I would have paid in the region of about 24k had the 1st cycle been a full cycle and paid 28k for the 2nd cycle. With DGFC, you pay as you go and the cost of the cycle depends on the amount of medication you are taking and number of scans you have. I was on more medication for my 2nd cycle, which is why it worked out more expensive. If you want any more info on DGFC, please feel free to leave your email address and I will email you and hopefully help with any questions you might have. I found the care of Dr. Mohd to be excellent but I know everyone is different.....

Hi HB, I was referred to an endocrinologist in City by my gynacologist last year. His name was Dr. Iyad Ksseiry and he carried out a number of tests, including tests that may affect fertility. He is very nice and his nurse is excellent. He seems to be very thorough, calls back when he says he will and the team carries out follow up when they say they will. Hope this helps!

Thanks so much ladies. I have had a couple of scans so I can handle that. I was a little worried about the blood test - wasnt sure if it was a simple blood test that they take from my arm or if they try to take blood from the actual baby - that must be another test. Thanks so much - that really puts my mind at rest!
