We visited a small village near Lukla last year (short flight from KTM). There is a school there founded by Edmund Hillary, they are always crying out for English lessons, even a week would help. We are very close to a couple of Sherpa families there and we also support one of the children so he can go to school. If you may be interested in this, I would be happy to meet you and then pass you on to our contact. Your would only need to pay for your flight and accommodation (about $5 a night!), the lodge there is brand new and very conformable and impeccably clean and 5 star by local standards! The Sherpas are the most wonderful people and would make you feel very welcome. You could also fit in a little gentle trekking (the village is on the Everest route). The trekking season is over so our usual guide would probably meet you in KTM. You would be perfectly safe, I know many ladies who have travelled by themselves and never felt unsafe or lonely. It will be life changing and will leave you wanting to come back! They shouldn't charge you anything, except maybe for trekking.

We have contacted Sylvan, and this is their reply: "Dear Pinkleton, We are sorry to hear about your negative experience with your Sylvan Learning center in Canada. When students attend Sylvan Learning, whether for enrichment or remediation, they receive a well-balanced, research-based, personalized program. Our diagnostic assessment and academic management ensures that progress is being made and long term results are seen. Sylvan's goal is to place students on the path to independent learning. To that end, the three to one ratio provides a great balance between guided and independent learning."

We have been in contact with Pink Caravan. They are very apologetic about the problems they have experienced. They had a huge backlog of cases from October to go through. If you have still not been referred, please drop an email to Dr Sawsan [email protected] . She is aware of the situation and will help you out. Good luck!

The link should take you to the admissions page which details their visit to AD and Dubai. Yes, it is Fettes in Edinburgh. Let us know if the link still doesn't work.

Kasey came to my house and collected a few bags. She sounds brilliant and totally committed. She just emailed me and said that she had found a shipper to transport the stuff for her, so I think she will collect for another few weeks. From our charities page.... Help an orphanage in Cambodia Kasey Smith and her husband are currently handling a personal project for a humanitarian cause to donate goods such as clothes, shoes, towels, etc. to an orphanage in Cambodia. “I will be spreading the word and handling the “donation drive” through my husband’s and my personal and work contacts in Dubai as we have been here nearly 10 years. We know we will be able to succeed in this project however once we have all the goods of course we need to get the goods to Phnom Phen, Cambodia!” – Kasey said. The couple has a personal affiliation with the orphanage and Cambodia as they adopted a little girl from this orphanage http://www.kaiskids.org and they have started to give back as it is a Non-Governmental Organization and really rely on volunteers. Unfortunately adoptions in Cambodia have also been put on hold for another year which means no children will find families. They have many babies and children from new born premature babies up to teenagers and they try and do what they can. Many people volunteer and assist Kais Kids, however all help is needed. Obviously Kais Kids are only one of the many orphanages in Cambodia. Kasey and her husband have been working with them for about 2 1/2 years through adopting their girl, hence supporting them. “I am hoping to send the goods by air freight by the end of July. Really looking forward to your reply to advise that you can assist in someway!??” – added Kasey. For help and donations please contact Darren and Kasey Smith 050 724 1413 or write them an email [email protected].

Here is a message from City Hospital "DHCC posted the wrong information about her on their website , she s a member of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynecology not a fellow of the Edinburgh College nor of the Royal College of Surgeons as mentioned on the DHCC website ( here ‘s the link http://www.dhcc.ae/specialist/638/Shaikh-Azizunnisa/) . Please note that our HR got in touch with DHCC and asked them to make the necessary changes"

The Bold and the Beautiful on channel 33, when they accidently would show the same episode again or forget all together to put it on (and we would be devastated), it had no kissing or funny business so some episodes were very short. I remember being very shocked when I saw it in the US with all the bits in. Have a look at this site it is very well done http://www.dubaiasitusedtobe.com/

Can't rave enough about www.lapiccolamaison.com . Right near Spagna metro and buses and 5 minutes walk from the Trevi fountain. See Tripadvisor for comments. It is more like a serviced apartment, but loads of cafes and a deli in the same street. They have 2 buildings and both are great. Very old outside but impeccable and new inside.

I have started going to Studio Fitness in JBR. The classes are great, good sound system and equipment. They do all the Les Mills classes. You can join and go as many times as you want (there is half off the joining fee for EW) or pay for 10, I think it comes out at less than 50 dhs a class. The girls who run this studio (Jessica and Louise) are brilliant and they can help with some reasonably priced PT as well. See http://www.expatwoman.com/dubai/monthly_Studio_Fitness_5981.aspx

Check out Imagine on our education/tutoring section. I have a tutor through them and am delighted, my son has progressed in leaps and bounds. They are reasonably priced compared to other companies and will match the tutor to your child. The owner is called Matt and his details are on the page. Best to try him in the morning.
