My family home in the UK has been rented out for 6 years. We recently became aware that the rent was about 15 percent below the market rate. As the current tenant has been there for 2 years with no rent increase, we proposed a renewal rate with increase of about 7 percent. As she has been fairly trouble free, we didn't want to ramp it up too much. She says that she can't afford any increase at all, no negotiation. Though the figures are fairly small by Dubai standards, over the course of a year it adds up. Added to which, it would make us look like complete push-overs if we accepted this. On the other side of the coin, we would need to re-decorate etc for a new tenant, and could have the property empty for a short time (not likely to be for long). What would you do? If you're tenant is good...leave it alone. When you have a tenancy change go ahead and bump it up...in the meantime I would let it go.

Croatia is very beautiful! My family and I stayed in Dubrovnik. We rented an apartment for a week. Where are you staying? I think we'll be staying in Dubrovnik...wasn't sure though if we should stay at any of the islands. By the look of the responses, we probably should. It also sounds like getting an apartment opposed to a hotel is what lots of people do. Thanks for everyones input!

If you're renting the property out then you need to declare your taxes and, based upon what your deductibles are, you may need to pay income tax or might be able to deduct enough to not have to. Either way you must declare and file a tax return to IRS. We use an accountant to do this on our behalf and just give them all the information such as rental income,what bills we've paid etc. We do the same! DubaiCheekyB - curious.....do you get your taxes done here or there and what does it cost you?

I went to Knowledge Village about a month ago and parking was horrendous. I drove around for an hour....decided to go back home. :( Its great though if you have someone to drop you off and drive around the parking lot until you're done!

I just went to the Ejari website and it says this: Who can register with Ejari? Anyone who belongs to the following category can register for Ejari Accounts. 1. Landlords 2. Property management company and its employees 3. Landlord representative I am none of those so I don't think I can access the website to register the lease contract. Or am I missing something?

When I go for a job interview, they might be interviewing me for a job, but I'm also interviewing the company - to make sure we're a good fit. I wouldn't just work for anyone offering a job.

Greece is gorgeous in Spring although the it may still be chilly. Remember to pack jackets. I would definitely recommend Santorini- it is stunning with some of the best sunsets in the world-extremely romantic. Crete is massive and you could spend a whole holiday there, so I am not sure of its worth it. I would spend some time in Athens-visit cape Sounion, the new museum, the Acropolis, stroll through the Thisseion area. Then perhaps you can do Santorini, which is in the Cycaldes (group of islands), then perhaps Corfu and Cephallonia (Kefallonia-where Captain Corelli's mandolin was filmed). Other beautiful islands are Skiathos and Skopleos. On the mainland it is worth travelling to Meteora, Nafplion. It is endless. Greece is a wonderful place with varied scenery and tons of interesting places to visit. If you are travelling close to the 24th April, you will be experiencing a Greek easter. It is fabulous! Hope this helps. :))) We would be there April 24th....is there anything we should do or experience during Greek Easter? You got me excited.... ....well, you all did!! Thanks! I guess I'll be doing lots of googling tomorrow! Yay for vacation!!

Thanks for your response. I figured it must be from the weights because I was working my arms (I guess too hard), and I am stiff, so that probably does explain it. I do know that unexplained bruises can mean more....so I guess I'll just watch out if any others appear.
