I am really sorry to hear about your loss. I went through a very similar situation caring for my mother. Although you will never forget her time is a great healer. I am in the uk at the moment but travel to the uae. Would love to meet up with you when I come over and can keep in touch online. I know its not the same but can offer you some company during this lonely time. I agree with the other ladies, key is to keep yourself busy. Voluntary work, do a course, get a job or as Alik said join the EW coffee mornings. xx

@ spongemonkey..No where is perfect but I do like the UAE compared to elsewhere and for kids I think its a good place for them to have a good all round childhood. I love the facilities for children, the sea and the fact there are so many nationalities and cosmopolitan I can actually remember my old posts! ..LOL edited by nadia007 on 17/06/2012

Thanks for your replies. What would be the best day to travel to Sharjah ( when there is the least traffic) and is it expensive to get a cab there and back to Dubai Or does anyone know where I could hire a car and driver for the day? sgilli3, yes i can see appeal in wanting to live amongst non expats and experience some local life

Hi The story was really spooky! Muslims believe in something called Jinn ( thats where the word genie comes from). We believe that humans are made from clay and water and jins are made from air and fire . Its from the 4 elements that make up the world ( earth and water: Humans ) and (air and fire : Jinn). Angels are made from light. We believe they co-exist at the same time as us but in a different dimension. They are of different religions too ( Muslim< Jewish, Christian etc) However you get some baddies ( just as you do with human) who divulge in the unknown and contact one another. We dont believe in ghosts or spirits and ghost possessions. So a Muslims explanation would be " Its the jinn" who are shape shifters too. Muslims also believe that Satan was NOT an angel but the ruler of Jinns ( who was given a rank amongst the Angels) but who would not bow down to Adam as commanded by God. ( Muslims believe thats where pride and arrogance came from: Satan) One of the verses in the Quran that wards off evil Jinn is Surah Nas Bismillahir Rahmanir Rahim In the name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful Qul 'a-'uuzu bi Rabbin Naas, Say: I seek refuge in the Lord of mankind, Malikin-Naas, The King of mankind, 'Illahin-Naas, The God of mankind, Min-sharril Waswaasil khan Nass, -- From the evil of the sneaking whisperer, 'Allazii yuwas-wisu fii suduurin Naasi, -- Who whispereth in the hearts of mankind, Minal-Jinnati wan Naas edited by nadia007 on 17/02/2012

Definetly Emirates, then BA not Virgin...the last time I went with friends on Virgin to Dubai they got all the meals mixed up. The didnt know which ones were Halal and non Halal and vegetarian. They were short staffed, gave us all a chocolate brownie for breakfast (and that was it). The plane was dirty and very rickety rackety!! The only plus point was the airfare was cheaper on Virgin

I feel terrible ladies..I really do...I didnt mean to kick off a whole debate!! @ Custard Apple I am the original poster and based in Central London!! I see the similarity between London and Dubai with their being so many nationalities and thats what I love about both places. I have been to Dubai several times and my personal feelings are that I feel safer walking in the evening in Dubai (both Bur Dubai and Deira). I agree with one poster that the media sensationalises stories but people were murdered in the riots for defending their property, 3 young men from Birmingham yards away from where my friends live and I personally saw alot of shops that were smashed up..I even felt fearful when my big local Tesco which is open 24 hours kicked us out early because of the riots and Kensington almost seemed like a ghost town!! Everyone experiences things in a different ways. I "personally" feel that Dubai is more child friendly and "feels" to me safer. Yes alot goes on behind closed doors but for me "personally" I am happy that the drugs, drink and underage *** arent so blatant Having said that I recognise the England has alot to offer in terms of welfare system , judicial system, education, and citizenship for expats!!

@ our souls... Did you see the riots in London ..there were millionaires kids smashing up shops and looting!! Others thought the riots were about the polish and asians stealing their jobs!! London is not so polite anymore with the youth in Europe being labelled the worst in Europe with teenage pregnancies, gang welfare and underage *** and drinking!! I think I would rather have the peasants trying to get upward mobility on the social ladder !!

@ guiness I love your reasoning. Dubai I reckon is a great place to live. Its like London but you have the better weather and beach. Its so cosmopolitan and kids are better behaved than the ones here and its safer :(

I dont understand why people were buying properties like no ones business just a few years ago and Dubai was the place to be. After the crash people are talking about very poor quality builds and fact that properties dont last long. Forgive my ignorance didnt people know about the build quality and freehold not being "freehold" whilst the boom was happening? I remember properties selling like hot cakes and at extortionate prices

Thanks Ladies I will check out the options you have mentioned, @ dentro , from the UK we only get a 1 month visa. I am guessing with 3 kids and myself the visa run every month will amount to quite a bit and the hassle factor of having to do the run every month too. x

Wow..so what will happen to the apartments that are freehold and will fall apart..who pays for the rebuild and if not rebuilt how is the land divided up? In that case does it mean prices actually decrease as the property ages? With a Villa ...they are freehold so better potential i suppose because atleast you could rebuild them yourself (providing they are freehold)

Hi Babylons I think that's a great idea to get your friend on the forum and reading the replies and better still she could even post how she is feeling as a way of stress relief which will positively help her. Maybe look for some parent and toddler groups near to her. She will probably see other mothers with new borns too and sympathetic mothers with toddlers who could also give her the moral support. Its the sleep deprivation and a colicy throwing up/ crying baby for the first few weeks that literally feels like torture :( I recommend your friend gets a baby bouncer or swinging chair to put the baby in from now to get out of the habit of being held. Unfortunatley I held my DS and he was attached to the hip for a good 2.5 years. With the next baby I had the baby bouncer facing me so baby could see me and I her. Atleast then I could have a cuppa !!

Hi It sounds just the way I was too with my first born. He had colic and would cry constantly (more or less) If I took him anywhere people would say there's something wrong with that baby he cries far too much whilst the doctors would re assure me he was fine. First 6 weeks was ****. Please assure your friend that after the 6 weeks things do get better as baby starts sleeping for longer. I also breastfed and had DS in bed with me. He would never sleep unless next to me or I was holding him. Maybe get your friend to go for walks with the baby in the pram..that usually helps the baby sleep and for her to have a change of scenery too and some fresh air. What I found out with my subsequent babies is that if I ate certain food the vomitting and colic would be worse and I found my culprit to be cows milk. I changed to soya milk and it really really helped the babies. Please ask your friend what she has been eating and her diet consists of: milk (dairy), spicy foods, onions all seem to make the vomitting worse. I think what Rancher said about taking some snacks and drinks will help and if ou make it a regular thing that you take over a nice coffee and cakes it will be something for her to look forward to. I know Iwould have. Lastly please re assure your friend what she is going through is quite normal...most of us have gone through it...seemed like **** at the time but passes and I promise it does get better as baby gets older but the first born is always the most difficult (in my opinion)

Hi I have been here 4 days and came across to European ladies on seperate occasiona who were B.....y miserable and rude...and I feel quite upset about it Both jumped the que and came in front of me, one English lady at the airport who must have been suffering from PMT, because i mentioned to my kids that I thought there was a queing system when she turned round and barked at me for apparently "talking behind her back and to children too" and then walked off. I was speaking to my kids and in English!! The second women today saw that my kids and I were at the taxi rank at Carrefour waiting for a taxi and came with her trolley, totally ignored us and took the taxi... Now correct me if I am wrong PLEASE...but on both occasions I was wearing the Abayah and easily would be mistaken for a local. Is there some kind of tension between the expats and locals or resentment there?

Hi Ladies I lost my mother to cancer when I had just graduated from Univeristy and was taking some professional exams. She got cancer at the age of 42 and 18 months later passed away. I have an older sibling who has cerebal pasly who I cared for since then so GGP, I can relate somewhat to you (looking after a sibling) and to all others who have lost a parent. And as one of the posters said you can never understand the pain until you have been through it. More than a decade has passed and I still find it very difficult to talk about my mum without feeling that loss and heart ache, that i no longer have her with me. I am a muslim and thankGod for me I found my faith just before my mum became ill. As part of my belief, I believe that certain things are fate/ destiny such as the day you will pass away..and that gave me the coping mechanism...that time was wriiten for my mum to return to her creator just as mine is...when ??only God knows !!!.

Hi ladies where do i find the january shredding thread and what is it.? .i am desperate to lose weight. to OP I tried a cross trainer last week, didnt like it. I think Gym equipment in a fitness club is alot different to equipment thats made for home use. personally i like the manual bikes with tension controller and not the plug in electrics one with computer tyte monitor. with a bike I watch my favourite programme for half hour without really noticing how much exercise is done.
