Gulf Talent is also a good website and would suggest sending your CV through to Michael Page Recruitment.... they were the best for contacting me when I was out of work and looking for a PA/Executive Secretary type job..... As pinks said... I would not look at coming over without one as it is an expensive place to live but on the downside to that, a lot of employees would rather employ locally, preferably to people who already have UAE experience and also with hiring locally, they do not have to offer an international package..... I would maybe suggest coming over for a month, you can rent apartments on a montly basis.... although more expensive than normal rent and then scour the job market and meet people.... I would definately contact the agencies before then as it can take some time for any interest to start coming through.... Another good place for jobs seems to be Qatar... not as busy as Dubai but they are expanding and many people living in Dubai have made the move over there........

Thankyou to everyone who has given their advice.... unfortunately, the insurance policy is worldwide but the insurance companies are finding loopholes... i.e. if he was to leave then he would no longer be a UAE resident, therefore no longer entitled to cover but the main priority is to get him back to the UK so they can do some more tests :-) We will however definately contact them and ask who would they use if they were to cover!!! I will also look at the Air Ambulance also. Many thanks

hi sarahlou many thanks for the info... he would have needed a doctor a couple of months ago but now, i think mainly because they say they cannot offer any further treatment, the documents that the family now have instruct them that only a nurse is required due to his current stable condition. lady silver.... if you or anyone could recommend any companies in the uk that has freelance nurses, that would be great as we could contact them.

Hi Daza Yes, if you could pls speak with your brother, that would be great... we are basically looking for a minimum 2 bed house with a fenced in back yard for the dogs... we are looking to pay upto NZD 430 per week and can pay 2 mths up front along with bond. There are some areas that we prefer as opposed to others but tbh if we can just have a place that will accept our two little herberts, we will make it a home :-) My DH is going on the 8th May and I am going to follow at the end of the month so if your brothers hears anything that would be great... my email is louise dot esbach 75 at hotmail dot co dot uk. Thanks Plum2 for your reply, I will send you through an email :-)

Dear All My DH and I have finally got our work permits through to go to Christchurch :-) My DH will go at the beginning of May to start his new job in Construction and I shall follow on at the end of May with our two cocker spaniels... Can anyone recommend good websites for a forum like this and also websites for being able to try and sort out rental accomodation as I have been looking and our budget is reasonable but not many people want to take on dogs :-( and i know from our visit there in february that everyone is looking for a rental.... :-( As my DH company will be providing him with accomodation for a couple of weeks, it does not give us a lot of time for him to find somewhere when he gets there before we arrive so anything we could do in advance would be a big bonus... Any advice, info or recommendations would be a great help... I have lived in Dubai for almost 20 years now and am looking forward to the move although I think it will be a shock to the system to begin with eekkkk :-)

Hi there If they are renting an apartment, what type of pet do you have firstly...?? If it is a dog, for an apartment, I would say that Jumierah Lake Towers or the Dubai Marina is the best place unless they find you an apartment that is also surrounded by villas... but, most of the areas are concrete and sand, unless of course, you rent a villa...... I think it would be best to press the company for an idea of the area so that you are able to do some research... Also, note that it will be warm then... the summer will have already started so the best time to walk them will be early morning and late evening as the day time will be too hot, but, the dogs do adapt to it quite easily... hth thanks

Hi Everyone I have lived in Dubai for almost 20 years now and once you have done one summer, believe it or not, you do get used to it... you just change your lifestyle a bit.... things I would definately recommend are as follows: 1. Try and avoid shopping malls on a friday/saturday afternoon, it is always best to go when they open on a weekend as it gives you chance to have a good look around although saying that... the shopping malls are generally quieter during the whole day during ramadan as a lot of the muslims who are fasting tend to sleep in the afternoon before Iftar and then the shopping malls become hectic in the evenings.... 2. Driving here is a sport in itself so would definately recommend getting out on the roads on a friday morning to practice so that you can get used to the signs and where they all go.... I would say driving around the communities i.e. springs, jumeirah, umm sequim would be a good starting point before you start on sheikh zayed road, dubai marina and bur dubai..... 3. Expat woman site.... always come on here if you have any questions... there is a fountain of knowledge on this forum from all generations so whatever question you have, someone will be sure to have the answer! Happy moving :-)

You should also check for villa's in Al Sufouh (usually compound villas) as still within reach of places to go but still close enough to get to Jebel Ali... approx 20 mins drive.....

Thanks dubai1990. The whole thing is quite daunting. What did you have the blood drawn for? we have about three moves or so till our move but will be away for a few weeks in the middle of that. I just googled your friends company but didn't find anything, can you please post contact details? Thank you. Hi Suzysun... the blood draw is for the rabies testing... that is the first thing you have to do as they cannot travel until 3 mths after having it done. Yes, we have just moved and will be moving again in 2 weeks around dubai.... let's just say it is not the easiest thing to do.... anyway, an email address for nikki is expatpets at hotmail dot com.... just say that louise has given you her email... she has just recently set up a page on fb.... but, regardless of whether you use her or not, she will be able to tell you about all the procedures and put your mind at ease about it all... just let me know if you have any problems or need more advice.... I will hopefully be confirming their quarantine space in christchurch soon eeekkkk.....

Hi Suzysun We are using a company called Expat Pets... we know the owner.... however, we did get a few quotes... DKC never got back to me and the prices were pretty much the same.... for two medium size dogs, the price works out at about AED 30,000.....(more than half of that are the flights alone!) Our friend does also offer the service whereby they just advise you on what you need to do and you do it yourself... i.e. vet visits and costs and booking their flights... we have decided to do the vet visits as we do not really need a person to take them so there are a number of packages.. We have already done the blood draw and have been advised that it is 3 months after they have had that and then 10 days in quarantine when over there.... It is expensive but we could never imagine leaving them here... they are part of our family.... Good luck with your decision :-)

we usually use Thomas Cook Al Rostamani to send money to the UK as they only charge AED 45 to send where as some of the banks charge over AED 100.... they used to do an offer where your 5th transaction with them was free but not sure if they do that anymore.....

we are also in the same boat.... we are going to NZ though due to work.... we are using a friend of ours that does relocations for animals called expat pets... I got a few quotes and tbh, the prices were all pretty much the same so would rather have someone who a) has done it before and b) someone who I know that I can trust and rely on as there is quite a process to get the dogs into NZ and we are currently getting quotes from crown and global partners for our moving so will let you know what the prices are like but may also get a quote from move one also..... edited by dubai1990 on 11/03/2013

Good Morning Everyone I was wondering if anyone could give any recommendations for shipping companies over here as myself and my DH will be moving to New Zealand and would like to start getting some quotes and as I have never used a shipping company first hand, was wondering if anyone could recommend someone for their efficiency and price. Any help would be great :-)

thank you to everyone for your replies... it is a great help to hear from people in the know... we have two english cocker spaniels... they are just under two years old so still have the energy, but, thankfully, they do not have the destruction in them...I am sure one of them is a couch potato and my nice wooden furniture is very much intact and i completely understand from the LL's point of view as we do the same with our house in the UK.... but, hopefully by meeting them, they will see that we are decent people and would treat their house as if it was our home.... I will definately be looking out for proper heating as I have not lived back in the UK for many years so, the cold will come as much as a shock to me as it does the dogs! thanks for the info on where to go for groceries, linens etc etc for a reasonable price... I think we are going to take most of the big things with us so we should not have to buy too much for the time being.... It is so exciting and so daunting at the same time... but, I did say to my OH that I have always wanted to visit, he has just gone one step further haha

thankyou for the replies... there will just be myself, OH and dogs.... and it would be lovely to live on the outskirts.... a quiet area but not too quiet and with lots of area's to walk the dogs. Travel is not a problem as OH will get a company car so it is not too much of a priority... just finding something that can accomodate us is all we are looking for and then we just make it work :-)

hi ange74 i am sorry to comment on this thread but i have been on google and your name came on a thread on here back in 2010 and you mentioned that you were a dog trainer... i am looking for a dog behaviourist for our english cocker spaniel... she is almost 2 now but is starting to become more and more agressive towards people that she either does not see very often or strangers... we have tried telling people to ignore her and have also tried calling her name to diffuse the situation but she is agressively barking and i would hate to think what she would do if they went to stroke her... with people she knows, she is the most loving dog but the issue is with others and lets just say, the vet this evening was lucky not to lose a finger! our other cocker spaniel is the most docile thing there is.... give him a sofa and a cushion and he is as happy as can be! if you could recommend anyone, that would be great..... once again, sorry for contacting you through a different thread....

thanks for this thread guys.... i have also been stressing over my cocker spaniel... one of them is the most laid back dogs there is but the other one is starting to show aggression and i am not sure what to do.... we had a trainer in and he said it was fear but, she seems to be getting worse... she is the most gentliest of dogs and loves giving you kisses when she knows you and with all other dogs... it is just people that she does not know or does not see on a regular basis and i am not sure how to get her out of it.... i am sure that she may have been mistreated as a young pup but she is certainly not mistreated here so i may try and give the muzzle a go, or, could anyone let me know if Verity is still in dubai as we have no intention of getting rid of her but we want to try and stop the aggression now as i feel if it carries on, there may be a chance that she will get the confidence to bite..... any advise would be greatly appreciated...

hi there as you are on your husband's visa, they will still need to apply for a work permit in order for you to work in the freezone... it is very similar to a labour card if you were working for a dubai company... therefore, you will sign an employment contract with them and a lot of the rules are very similar to the UAE law, however, you can go to the freezone and enquire about their rules and regulations for employment..... i have worked in a free zone for many years and tbh i have found the rules a little more lenient that a dubai based company but i do know that the free zones do tend to have slightly different procedures for different things.... hth

hey there well... i am not on my first job hunt, but, I am on my job hunt once again but, it really depends on what job you are looking for and whether there are a lot advertised... some people can get a job in a couple of weeks and some people have taken a few months to even get an interview.... also, as it is your first job, it depends on what job it is as quite a few employers like the employees to have uae experience and as there are quite a few people looking for employment, it can be a little harder..... i would definately suggest registering your CV's with as many recruitment companies as possible and just keep checking the websites... it is very much a waiting game.... hth

same here..... we have booked taxi's 3 times this year to take us to the airport, and, lets just say that we have had to walk along the main road trying to flag a taxi down with our suitcases!!! i really could not tell you how many times, even, over the last 6 months that we have called for a taxi and they have failed to show up..... and yet, they get such a glowing report in the newspapers for their prompt and reliable service.... we usually have a laugh about the advert saying that red top taxi's are the best! but, this problem has been around for some time unfortunately and i have definately not seen any improvement over the years and like you have said, you call the operator to find out where your taxi is and they basically say that they have put the call out and no one wants to take it.... erm.... so, why do they have an operator is my question if the drivers can decide on what they want to do anyway.... and to think, that you are paying extra for this service if the taxi does show!!! i know so many people have been condoned for comparing the taxi system with the rest of the world, but, tbh, there are a lot of countries that do seem to have the same system and get it right.... basically they tell their drivers what to do.... unless, there are no bookings....i would not think that it was such a hard system to implement.... oh, well, rant over lol

hi there our company is with the DMCC, another freezone and they do not provide visa's for nannies... the general consensus that I know of is that a nanny has to be sponsored by your husband, which, if that is the case, she will then come under a Dubai visa rather than a freezone one.... however, TECOM may do it differently.... i am not sure if this will help but i know that one of my managers sponsored a maid and he did all of it at the immigration desk at the Al Safa health clinic.... as far as i know, everything was straight forward, so, maybe it might be worth having a drive down to the Al Safa clinic where we have to go for our medicals and speak with the immigration desk there... it just saves having to go to the main immigration in bur dubai as that can be quite hectic.... also, someone mentioned the new building on shk zayed road in between MOE and Safa Park may also be able to help... I cannot remember the name of it but if i am driving down there today... i will make a mental note of it.... in regards to outpass... this usually means if they have flown out of the country after their visa was cancelled, but, usually a visa can be issued as long as it is done within the 30 days of cancellation so cannot really help you with that one.... it is just behind the co op which is on al wasl road opposite safa park.... hth

Just a thought.... if you cancel your visa before resolving this, then you are signing to say that you have accepted the gratuity as it is as they are unable to cancel your visa until you sign to say that you have agreed to everything.... Therefore, if you are not agreeing, you will not be able to cancel the visa until you are happy with the settlement which means that you will not be able to do anything about a new visa until this one has been resolved.... I have been in the same situation, all I would recommend is that if you do have an appointment with the DMC in order to have the matter resolved, it may be better to take someone with you that speaks arabic that can fight your corner. hth :-)

Pre Existing is usually Chronic conditions although some companies do charge extra to have Chronic conditions covered... i know with our company cover Aetna, they do cover pre existing, but, as a new member, there is a time limit before you can claim which is what they also do for maternity and dental.... have you tried CIGNA... they were more expensive for us, but, they may do what you are looking for....

But, for the favours and decorations, wedding dress etc etc, we got the majority of the things off ebay so would definately suggest that.... we were having my sister in the UK getting the stuff but I have seen people mention that it is possible to set up an account over here.... compared with some of the prices, this was definately the cheaper option hth :-)

Are you sponsoring her would be the first question....?? If she is from an agency, then, they would most probably hold the passport... If you are not sponsoring her, then, her actual employee would be responsible and it would therefore be there decision as to whether they hold the passport or not.... Unfortunately, it is a very grey area on whether to hold a passport or not as it is not really our document to give away if you know what I mean.... maybe someone else could offer more advice on this.....

we usually take them to a groomers for a wash and cut.... but, if it is just for a normal wash because they are dirty (which can be often!!) we stick them in the bath and then have PLENTY of towels handy lol... although a few people have recommeded that you do not wash them too often.... i.e. maybe once a month so that their skin does not dry out.... it just really depends on what people prefer to do.... I must admit, the groomers do a far better job :-) hth
