Does anyone know where I can get a filter for our fridge - need it for the ice/water dispenser. Are they standard sizes or does it depend on the brand? Have previoulsy used a water bottle and pump but we're moving and don't have room for the water bottle. I know lots of people just drink the DEWA water straight from the tap but we'd rather filter it. TIA

Thanks Caligurl, will have a look in Mothercare today as already going to MOE. Still struggling with normal clothes but only have a couple of floaty / stretchy things that fit now so must start stocking up!

Thanks loube and busybee2 - we just have a pretty average bbq - 'grandhall' from ACE so from what you've said I reckon we can use the orange bottles - thank god - couldn't bear to go back to that horrible guy! Seemed a bit odd that if other info was correct, it would mean that everyone in Dubai would have to go to one guy in Karama for their bbq gas....... So at emirates gas it's 75 dhs for a refill - do you have to buy the bottles from them in the first place?

Thanks everyone. In a real tizz now - went to the place in Karama yesterday as usual to get 3 bottles refilled..same place as the admin link refers to. The most miserable guy watched me double parking....always chokka up there...and then watched me struggle in with 2 bottles (nearly broke his glass door trying to open it carrying 2 cylinders...but he still just stood watching me from the other side of the glass!) I then had to move car and eventually went back in with the 3rd bottle...only for him to tell me very smugly that all bottles had expired and I couldn't refil them. Left them all there for him to dispose of...and probably make some recycling money on - he was such a git!! Asked if they did contracts - his reply 'We don't do contracts, we don't collect and we don't deliver'......I felt like saying 'and you don't do [i'>helpful[/i'> either...' So, seeing as I can't bear to ever give him one more of my precious dirhams, are the orange bottles that you can get delivered totally rubbish for the bbq? ......not the end of the world really but I resent his attitude :(

Hi ladies DH and I are looking to go to NZ over Christmas/New Year. We have previoulsy toured parts of North & South Island and loved it. This time we'd like to stay put - a romantic holiday in a really nice self catering place on the beach - not keen on many neighbours - just want to relax, walk, swim, BBQ and have somewhere relatively close for food shopping. If anyone has any suggestions / knows somewhere that fits the bill, I'd be really grateful. TIA Amanda

Have a look at this thread - may be helpful. http://www.expatwoman.com/forum/messages.aspx?TopicID=129876 I'm pretty sure you can chose where you go regardless of where you live. If you haven't alreaady, get a stock of passport photos. You can do most of it without your husband - but make sure you take a copy of his passport and visa with you and your passport, photos and medical. Hope that helps.

Thanks everyone. KaceyC - I just wanted to try a different place - Sensasia is great and it's very relaxing plus their ginger tea is divine. Sure you'll love it.

I usually do this myself but my oven is in a terrible state after far too many roast ducks and the like and I could do with some seriously industrial help to get me back on track. The usual products are not doing the trick. There are companies in the UK that use really strong chemicals and they also take out the racks and shelves and dip them into special cleaning fluid. Anyone heard of anything similar here?? TIA
