Hi My husband and I are thinking of relocating to Dubai from the UK. My husband has a job offer already, a transfer through his current employer. In deciding whether or not we move, my own job prospects will be very important. I am a family lawyer here in the UK, dealing with matrimonial and children matters. I am not sure how transferable my experience in this sector will be in Dubai, as UK family law is not applicable there. I would really appreciate if someone would shed some light on the names of legal recruitment agents that I could contact now to discuss job opportunities. Alternatively, I have thought about moving career into becoming a teacher - but I guess that would need to be achieved before we moved out there. I am not looking for someone to offer me a job from this post, just a little direction from those who have already been through the whole process. I would want to set something up before we moved. Thanking you all in advance for any help you can offer. Sukstar! Hi SukStar please do get in touch we are looking for a UK qualified family lawyer.

Organic shop gluten free day is on Tuesdays but they often run out of flour. I have tried several times to bake without much success *sigh*. The glutenfree- supermarket has a good selection of gluten free products. We love the sweet bread rolls!

Yes, Peek-a-boo is quieter during Ramadan to be fair. The other nursery rhyme session is at 4pm. Fun city has a lovely soft play area for AED30 unlimited all day pass. Try it too.

Locked? That can't be right. Most of the pools in the Gardens i've been to are open. Avoid Thursday eve as the whole world comes out. Lol. Also in Ibn battuta there are several soft play areas for babies. A really good one is fun city and peek-a-boo.

In the Gardens the pool is usually a good place to make friends with like minded people i've found. Bring you little ones to one of the baby pools:)

Like you I had my second baby here after having my first in the UK. I came out here mid-way into my pregnancy. I simply rang Welcare hospital and made an appointment with Dr Pace Marcus. He is excellent. Once you have found a doctor, he/she will guide you through the process. Unlike the NHS where all routine appointments are with the midwife, here all appointments are with the Doctor and you get scanned almost every time you go in. Hope this helps. Good luck!

Try a salon located in Al Barsha near Mall of Emirates. It is called SEIER SHADES SALON the number is 04 399 0707 they are near the Coral Al Kooray Hotel. Good luck! The other salons that offer this are all on the dodgy side on town!

Mine does to every night! I have also gone for the tough love approach, I make sure there are plenty dummy's in there and he ends up sitting down getting one and falling back to sleep. Not easy to ignore but its getting better now.

Hi Pixie2011, I'm afraid I also had a failed epidural at Welcare last year. I underwent an emergency c-section and ended up under general anesthesia. The Anesthetist made four attempts and none of them were successful, on the other hand, the general care and the hospital was excellent. Good luck Hi Mac123 [url=http://www.freesmileys.org/smileys.php'>[img'>http://www.freesmileys.org/smileys/smiley-greet024.gif[/img'>[/url'> :) Hello There!;)

Hi ladies, I had asked the exact same question back in August on the Pregnancy forum, Pixie2011 and there seemed to be a lot of positve replies. I will be delivering at welcare inshallah and have just completed 34 weeks. (first child was via c-section!) Mac123, can you give us some more details pls? so sorry abt your experience! I had a failed epidural at al wasl with my first baby thus the nervousness now! After the 4 attempts, did the epidural actually work and how did your delivery go? It just didn't work for me. I am told it works for some and not for others. Saying that my friend had her baby there this past weekend and it worked very well. Needle went in first time, no issues. Good luck! :)

Hello Everyone! My DD will be 9 months in 3 days but she still doesn't sleep through the night. She normally goes to bed between 8 to 9 PM and wakes up by 8-8:30 AM everyday...I have tried to make her sleep earlier but she keeps fighting and refuses to sleep earlier...she wakes up every 3 to 4 hours at night to feed...She is already on solids, is a good eater, naps for an hour or two at the most in the day...we make sure she doesn't nap after 4 PM so she can sleep earlier but it doesn't seem to be working! I've heard of babies sleeping 10-12 hours at a stretch at this age and wonder if I am doing something wrong :( She is a very happy and active baby and never fusses about going to bed...there are some nights where she wakes up every 2 hours! Any advice/thoughts/ideas would be truly appreciated. TIA! If my 11 month old slept like that I would be happy but he doesn't. If I put him down at 8pm, oh he will be up by 1 am looking for a feed. I will be trying the sippy cup suggestion tonight! :(

I had one at Welcare last March and unfortunately my Anesthetist wasnt very good, im afraid. I was obviously in labour and bent over into position ready to have it in my spine and she tried at least 4 times to put it in. She had to call a technicial down to assist. Afterwards one of the midwifes commented that she was surprised at how much the doctor had struggled, so I wasnt very happy. I had had an epidural before in the UK and my anesthetic got it in first time. So my experience here wasnt very good. However, I had a brilliant doctor who was there through out my delivery but unfortunately getting the epidural in isnt his dept.Apart from that Welcare is a very good hosp in all other areas. Hope that helps.

Bring more than one if you can! Sometimes I have difficulty finding one in Dubai, but recently got one from City Hospital which also has a long shelf life. My daughter carries one for her wheat allergy and as far as I know within the UAE it's by prescription and only supplied at the hospital and not at the pharmacies.

Domestic Goddess-in-training - I am not being rude just astonished that you can undermine the severity of the condition for you it may be a little bit of cake but for my DD that's her life if ingested! It maybe 2 mins or 30 mins what ever the timescales, the condition is fatal. The measures you mention are all in place and just because there is a doctor or nurse on site doesn't mean that children with known allergies should be exposed to life threatening allergens! Why? Thank goodness most of the good schools can see this as a valid point otherwise birthday cake wouldn't be banned.

A little perspective and reality is required here. There may be 24 kids in a class but the reality is only one or two throughout a year may bring in a cake or cup cakes to share. Most parents are considerate of any children who suffer from allergies and would consult the parent first or the teacher would inform/decide on appropriate action at the time. One or two cup cakes a year is not going to cause diabetes or obesity! Generations were brought up on cake as part of their diet, generations who did not have high obesity or diabetes rates may I add! Children who are going to die within 2 mins of exposure to a nut or nut byproducts should quite honestly not be in school without extreme care and monitoring. The majority of allergies do not cause death within 2 minutes, if they did we would hear alot more about it. Most schools are well aware of children who have a problem and have procedures to deal with that. The irony is that many teachers still continue to treat children to gummy bears and the ilk as reward for doing well or on a special day. Now that did use to drive me bonkers as I don't allow chewing gum or the ilk. However a birthday cake is slightly different and hardly going to damage anyone. Seriously, neurotic interfering parents will be the finish for our future generations. edited by Domestic Goddess-in-training on 28/11/2011 A child with anaphylaxis will react within minutes and probable death if untreated about 30 mins hence the epipen....does that make it easier for you to understand the severity of this condition????? edited by Mac123 on 28/11/2011

My DD who is only 8 has a life-threatening allergy to wheat/gluten and of course I am ALL for it being banned in school!!!!!The school has got it right in banning treats otherwise if this is not properly controlled the class-room will become the A & E ward! I can't believe some of the insensitive comments below, one mentioned only letting "normal" children in her house! Goodness, teaching your children discrimination at such an early age is disgraceful!!!! My DS feels left out when she goes to birthday parties but I always make provisions for her, however that wouldn't be possible at school if it wasnt banned as I would have to keep track of each and every birthday at school. So glad her school has got it right!

Any news yet Mac123, did you include a covering letter to ask them to rush it through at all? Also how long did it take for the babies birth cert to be issued? Thanks. No I didn't ask for them to speed up the process as im only travelling in Aug . Still waiting...... I checked my bank and my card was debited on the 13th of May, so hopefully any time now. The birth cert and English translation takes one day BUT you will need to get it registered with the ministry of health and ministry of foreign affairs. The hospital will offer to do it for you and that process will take an additional 2 days. edited by Mac123 on 18/05/2011 It was 107 pounds, the form quotes the fee in euros at 119, so it may vary sightly depending on the rate at the time and that covers the DHL delivery back to you. Still waiting for the delievery hopefully any time now.
