Depends on which side of Mirdif you are looking at. The City Centre side has 3 buses that ply that route but for those of us who live on the other side, they withdrew our only bus a couple of years ago so we don't have any now.

Whereabouts in Europe are you going to? Europe is one of the easiest places to relocate pets to. As a norm vaccinations must be over 21 days old but less than 12 months. Pets must also be microchipped. If I can help, email me on [email protected].

Whereabouts in Canada are you going. You can take pugs as excess baggage on Emirates but not between the end of April and the beginning of October as there is an embargo. You must also take them in a box one size larger than they would normally use. As I said earlier, KLM are brilliant, if the layover is more than 3 hours in Amsterdam they are taken out, walked, cages cleaned, fed and put back in their boxes for travel. Cost $200 regardless of size of crates and if a long layover in AMS then an extr $200 for the pet hotel. Emirates charge about Dhs110 per kilo for excess baggage but as I said there is an embargo on all snub nosed breeds (dogs and cats) until October.

Emirates still charge by the kilo, and they have a limit of 32kg for excess baggage, after that they have to go cargo. The best way to get dogs or any pets to Canada is on KLM as excess baggage, $200 per pet regardless of size and if the layover is a long time in Amsterdam they charge an extra $200. I have done this trip with 3 dogs in December (120kg in total) and KLM were brilliant. The only drawback obviously was the long layover in Amsterdam but it was by far the cheapest option.

Why don't you get a large open cage, big enough for a litter tray, bowls, and an old cat carrier for a bed so he can hide and put it down where you are. Put him in the cage so he can see her and she can see him but they can't get to each other.

If he is going to cause trouble he should do something within the next 72 hours. You will probably have to prove that your dog is fully vaccinated especially against rabies, but if doggie didn't break the skin he can hardly claim he was bitten, just a bit shaken up.

English staffies are usually OK, it's their American counterparts that aren't. That said, contact Nicky Roffey at Qatar Pet Travel on +974 5542 4030 or [email protected] and she will be able to advise.

Just because the dogs are travelling in the same box does not necessarily mean that the cost is halved. The box (whether for one or two animals) must be big enough for them to lie down, stand up and turn around and if the box is for two, then it must be extra big so that they can both do this.

Dear Miffmac, I'm afraid you are wrong with reference to sending a dog to New Zealand. A couple of years ago the regulations changed, the rabies blood test is now valid from 3 months to 2 years and the quarantine in New Zealand is now only 10 days. So the basics: the pet must be microchipped prior to the rabies vaccination being given and if it is the first vaccination then you need to wait for a month before the blood test is done. The minimum wait then is 3 months before the pet can travel and the maximum is 2 years.
