For some reason, the name puts me off. Just doesn't sound good... The place looks good though. Am I being fussy over nothing?!?!?

Unless you hire her via an agency, she has to be on your or your husband' visa. She cannot work for you if she's on her husband's visa (doubt if she even can be). What if her husband and his employer provide a no objection letter? Can she then work as a maid?

Soo...I am getting married soon, here in Dubai. However the paperwork is taking a while, so not sure when. I booked a hotel fro new year's for myself and my fiance (I am european and he is asian) (not that that matters but here sometimes you get treated differently depending on race..as you know)...sooo..in case we are not married by New Years eve....will we be able to take our hotel room in abu dhabi together???? I am sure many many tourists are not married and just come to visit...but still...i am a bit worried of having my new year's ruined ! OL I wouldn't risk it.

Feeling slightly jaded and can't be bothered scrubbing all my bbq stuff, please tell me there is some magic formula I can soak them in to save my laziness. (And don't say a Dear Maid as she is me). Yours lazily :D Do you have a scrapper/ brush for this. When it's still hot it's not too difficult to brush off. Don't let the BBQ cool down.

Tip: The dubai window cleaning company that came round to do the outside of our windows gave my maid a little tip for the inside of the house: use newspapers to clean, and add a little vinegar to water if the window has smears. The results are great..!!! Not too much vinegar though..!!! edited by SurreySue on 17/04/2013

Be aware that the AED is pegged to the US dollar and sterling has depreciated against the dollar a great deal recently. This means that sterling assets are now cheaper in dollar (and, therefore, AED) terms than they were four months ago. This is good news in some ways but if the pound appreciates again at some point and you are relying on AED earnings to pay a sterling liability, it will cost you more AEDs. You probably know all this but just in case you didn't... Agree fully edited by SurreySue on 16/04/2013

My neighbours have just taken their house maid to the US. So must be possible. The concern most people have is the maids running away. More of a problem in us now that government are considering giving citizenship to all illegal immigrants there..!

It's not always easy. Be respectful, reasonable and don't get angry. Your marriage will benefit from it. If she's not the same back, speak to your partner, but make clear you will continue to try your best. He'll respect you for it and stand up for you as necessary.
