Try Urban energy Fitness - they specialise in pre and post natal training. As far as i know they are the only trainers in Dubai who are fully qualified. Particularly recommend Amy.

They don't sell them here, or the monitors. I bought mine from the UK. Let me check at home i might have a few boxes spare.

We live in a villa which we sometimes think must have been constructed out of concrete and lead - we have problems with using our phones and have had to use WIfi boosters all over it. We tested some friends traditional DECT monitors, and found that we just had constant interference and feedback. As good as useless. We originally didn't want a video monitor as we thought we'd just end up watching baby TV all the time, but realised that the video ones can be set up over a wifi network and then accessed on your smartphone, so no issue with coverage in the house, and we can access when we are out. We purchased the Withings baby monitor, and are testing it by setting it up in the hall and spying on our dogs. So far it works a dream - we can log in when we are out and see them wandering about (and trying to break through the dog gate!), we can talk to them and tell them to go back on their beds, and set it to play lullabies (probably better for babies than dogs). It also has sound / movement alerts which you can tailor so you don't have to watch it all the time. I think you can set it up on up to 5 iphone / ipad / android devices at a time, each with individual alert levels. We bought ours at Sharaf DG, but they also had them at the Virgin megastore in Dubai mall. It's not cheap compared to the traditional baby monitors, but we're really pleased with it.

Just kidding for isabella oliver is ridiculous - terrible range, and twice the recommended retail price. I almost bought a shirt for work, but then found it for half the price. Try Blush and Bloom, they are online but if my memory serves me you can go to AR to try on. Delivery service was Excellent. and they do the jeans expanders that have saved me for the last 2 months! https://www.blushandbloom.com

From what i've read, a few minutes in the sun each day is recommended to provide Vitamin D. Ironically, in this region pregnant women often have vit d deficiencies as they either refrain from going outside or fully cover up. You do have to be careful in the heat, but no more so than any one else venturing out when the weather is hot!

I haven't used her during pregnancy, but Dr. Oh is fantastic. I know she does work with pregnant women at the end of pregnancy for relaxation and i think also for breach babies. She will come to your house and is very professional, explains what she is doing all the way through and is careful to ensure your comfort. her number is 050 632 8378

We're with Dr. Yuliya, who also only delivers at Medcare and Al Garhoud. We've heard mixed reviews about both, but i'm pretty sure that compared to the NHS back in the UK, they are both outstanding. My personal view is that it is your confidence in OBYGYN which is more important than the facility. That said, I had to go to the A&E department of Medcare a few weeks ago, and i was so impressed with the care i received. They had an on call OBYGYN come see me within 15 minutes, and the nurses were very attentive. I haven't had experience of the Maternity ward, but a friend who took a tour and recently delivered there was really pleased with it. I'll check with her on her experience and post an update. I think they are meant to be upgrading the facilities, but they don't expect them to be ready until later in the year. Finally, i think that for those living in the Marina / Jumeirah / Umm Suqeim Medcare is closer than Al Garhoud and always has ample parking. As there is a chance that my well travelled husband might be out of the country, i'd rather go somewhere that didn't involve a 30 minute taxi trip down SZR when i go into labour!

Time to start reading labels! It's amazing when you think you are eating healthily how much is actually sneaking in. Juice - i started on juice, but doctor complained - they add too much sugar, they might not be pasturised etc. So i try hard now to find freshly squeezed juice, no added sugar and limit it to 2-3 glasses a week.Pomegranate and beetroot are full of vitamin C. Lacnor juices seem to be best for no added sugar. But I think doctors would recommend you just eat the fruit instead. Yoghurt - Be careful with ANYTHING that says low fat - if you look at the label they are often higher in sugar / calories than full fat version. A little bit of fat is good for you, and supports your metabolism. I tend to go for Greek Yoghurt with fresh strawberries but again, in moderation (and with a teeny splodge of honey if i feel naughty). Try nuts (again a handful, not a packet), and swap white carbohydrates for more complex wholegrain ones - brown rice, wholemeal pasta and wholemeal bread. Get souping if you can, it's a great way to a) fill you up and b) include lots of veg. I add wheatgrass and Chia seeds for additional protein to my lunchtime soups, and drink them by the vat. The more you eat food that you prepare yourself the better for you. Quality of ingredients is important, and the only way you know that you are putting the right things into you and your baby, is to prepare it yourself. It's exhausting!

i totally agree with Baslaef - quality is important, worry less about how much you're eating, and more about the nutritional value. But it is really hard! I thought i'd been really good, and far healthier than i was pre pregnancy, but when I had my 20 week scan i was also told by my doctor to rein in the snacks - even through i hadn't put any weight on in previous weigh ins but had put on 2kg in the last month (which i thought was OK at the 0.5kg per week). It seems like here they are very focused on us avoiding Gestational Diabetes, and not ending up with too much weight to lose at the end. I read the "what to eat when you're expecting book" and have been trying to stick to complex carbs (porridge and banana) for breakfast, soup (i bought an amazing Phillips soup maker) or salad for lunch and a healthy veg and chicken stir-fry for dinner or some wholemeal pasta. I don't really have a sweet tooth, but i have been *exhausted* throughout so when i'm at work and need a pick me up i've probably chosen biscuits rather than fruit more than i should have in the last month. But now when i want something sweet i'm having fruit or a yoghurt with a teeny bit of honey. Since the appointment i've made a special effort in buying fruit and nuts to snack on (i'm lazy and buy the pre-prepared tubs of fruit and dried fruit - i just won't eat it if i have to spend ages peeling and coring). Also walking the dogs every evening and seeing a personal trainer once a week. I totally feel for you - I felt horrible after that appointment - you feel weird enough about how your body is changing without someone telling you that you've put on too much weight. Focus on eating things that are good for you and baby, move around a little bit more, but keep everything in perspective - don't beat yourself up if you fancy a bit of chocolate, you're doing a great job the rest of the time growing a baby!

The Ripe Shop off Al Manara stocks Shea Butter, but i'm not sure if it is unrefined. The one i picked up is a gorgeous rich cream, which i've been using to try to avoid stretchmarks. It looks similar to the pictures found in the link below. **UPDATE** - just check and it said it is Raw Shea butter, 95AED for 250ML. <em>edited by MrsJT on 10/04/2013</em>

We're going through something similar and really unpleasant. We are currently being pursued through the Dubai Justice system by a couple who initially complained to the police that one of our dogs bit them, despite nothing being further from the truth. While they were off the leash playing with a whole group of other dogs (yes - we know this is not permitted, but we had been advised by a local policeman that on this wasteland beach covered in rubbish it was ok...and we naively believed him) they didn't approach the couple. I could tell the couple weren't comfortable with any of dogs being off the leash so put my dogs on the leash and moved them away. eventually the couple got up and left the beach and a security guard came down and we checked again with him that it was ok to have the dogs off the leash. Thought nothing more of it. However, 6 weeks later we got a call from the police who had tracked me down through my number plate which the couple had taken down (clearly come down to the beach again and watched for us) and asked us to come to the station. We had to give a statement to the police who were adamant that our dogs had bitten the couple and despite a lack of evidence on their side (of bites, of identification of us / of our dogs) the case was passed to the public prosecutor. The couple are aggressively pushing the prosecutor to take us to court and we are now waiting to hear whether we will be charged with endangering their lives, which could result in prison / a huge fine. We've tried to compromise by pleading guilty to having dogs off the lead and on a beach and paying the fines for that, but this couple really don't want to hear it. It goes to show that however well behaved your dogs are, this is not a region where dogs are generally liked / tolerated and something small can easily be blown out of proportion. Given that the man involved in your incident had his own dog he is hopefully less likely to complain to the police, so hopefully you have a non-incident (especially since he told you they hadn't made contact). Having investigated what should happen in these cases (from sources that work with the police and municipality) any actual bite should be referred to the municipality by the police / hospital. They would ordinarily take your dog and keep it in observation for 5 days to check for signs of rabies (hence why vaccinations and records are so important). If all clear they should release your dog once you have paid a hefty fine. What is not clear is if you would be then liable for criminal charges, which as our case shows can take up a lot of time, anguish and money. I'm sure you'll be fine, and sympathise with you for stressing out!

We were in the same boat as you - had everything we needed after several years together, but people were insistent on buying us gifts. The danger if you don't set up a registry or ask for charity / honeymoon donations is people ignoring you /using their imagination and you ending up with a) things you hate b) multiples of things. To avoid this we found a registry where people could see our list and buy us specific gifts. However, when it came to having them delivered the registry treated the gifts given as an accumulated pot of money which we could then use to buy anything from their store. e.g. we asked for 5 silver photo frames (which people love buying for you) and then when it came to it, we only had one actually delivered (which all 5 gift buyers believe is theirs when they come round) and put the money for 4 other frames towards something that we wanted more. The problem with lists that don't allow this flexibility is that you end up with half a dinner service (and then feel obliged to buy the rest out of your own pocket). I think the list we went with in the UK was www.weddingshop.com. Again they used the VAT to ship everything out to us as soon as they had it delivered to their depot. Sneaky, but like DangerousBlonde said, it's nice to have an opportunity to upgrade some of your existing stuff...

I also went at 6w1d here in Dubai. I was amazed that they could easily see the baby on a tummy scan (well a 4mm blimp they told me was the baby) and they picked up a strong heart beat. I got a print out of the blimp and the heart rate and still look at it most days rather incredulously. Going for next scan in 2 days and looking forward to hopefully seeing something a bit more baby like. In terms of the bladder i expect they will do a urine test as part of the antenatal check up so you will need to have something to give them. However, i found that even having gone to the bathroom before leaving the house i needed to go again when i was at the doctors 30 mins later, so if you also have the same need to pee pregnancy symptoms i wouldn't "save" it up and make it uncomfortable for yourself. Good luck, its a very weird and wonderful experience!

We try to take them every week, but depends if my husband is around as i can't load the quad into the truck on my own. We've done a lot of recall work, and they are improving but Salukis are notorious for their poor recall when they see something "more interesting". We invested in some GPS collars from the US which have a beep / buzz function and they tend to come back on the beep if they stray too far and then get LOTS of cheese and treats. We also got some very long leads and did a lot of work on those initially. Off the leash work is very intensive, but well worth it.Just very hard to train the natural instinct out of a sight hound! Would love organise a group trip to the desert before it gets too hot, but one of ours is terrified of other dogs, and until we've got him a bit better behaved it's probably not a good idea! Hopefully a few weeks of one on one socialisation with our trainer will sort that out and we'll let you know!

Hey, I also have two saluki mix dogs, and this sounds like a great way to purge some of their unbounded energy. We used to take them to a beach near JBR where there are lots of dogs for off the lead time, but have had problems with some people who disliked dogs there. Now we take them (and a quad bike to keep up with them) into the desert near the Al Awir Stadium / prison, but again you have to be very careful in case they chase something as if they do it is breaking the Dubai anti-hunting law. Now going to buy muzzles for them to give us a bit of piece of mind just in case they catch up with something. Coursing in a "safe" environment sounds much better - i'll keep my ears open and let you know if i hear anything.

To my knowledge they don't sell them in Dubai - only the clearblue ovulation sticks which are not so accurate. I bought mine from the UK, but i think they are cheaper on amazon. Best $100 spent, worked first month!

HI lcfcfem et al! Totally understand what you are going through - i recently rescued a second young saluki mix - a typically gentle breed. However since reaching teenage hood he has become very unpredictable. At home with us he is a complete darling, but when people come by he can get very loud and vocal. Not in an "aggressive" way, but in a way that can be quite daunting for people. On walks with our other dog he became a totally different animal. If he even saw another dog in the distance he became very "aggressive" - barking, snarling and lunging towards other dogs, and very difficult to distract and bring back to a calm place. He is absolutely fine when we walk him on his own - but as you can imagine, doing 4 walks a day is somewhat infeasible especially in summer! I was at my wits end and worried about his increasing unpredictability (not to mention the 4 walk a day despair). I tried lessons with the Paws behaviourists, but they were unable to make home visits, and kept cancelling appointments at short notice. They also used clicker training, which is not for everyone (especially not my husband). I then reached out to other trainers and found Homely Petz training guys Neil and Jemma. They did a sort of "pyschometric" test of both my dogs, understood the relation between them and how they map to the doggy drivers - pack, prey, fight and fright. They couldn't have been more spot on - the dog with problems is basically terrified of everything, and his way of reacting was to leap to action, possibly thinking that it is his role is to protect our other dog on walks. Since the initial consultation we have done a lot of obedience lessons teaching positive reinforcement and balanced correction (i now say A-AH, a LOT), resulting in both my dogs having incredible levels of obedience and agility, and a much better connection with my husband and I. The "difficult" dog is now far happier to hang out with us and connects much better on walks. When he does see another dog he is much easier to snap out of it with minimal distraction, though some dogs he still goes ballistic at. Now we have the obedience down we will start socialisation lessons with both dogs and correct the way they approach other dogs. I love the method these guys are using, and how eager they have been to help. I too was reaching the point where i was worried that we would have to find another new home for the new guy, but had fallen for him too much and wanted to fight to help him out. It's not an overnight fix, but if you are looking for a trainer to support you on a longer journey then i really recommend them.

I can highly recommend Neil and Jemma at Homely Petz Training. They've not helped me on a house training issue but on general training / obedience and their methods and support have been fantastic. I'd previously tried the ladies at Paws as my pooch used to go to daycare there, but i have to say i didn't rate them or their levels of customer service. Homely Petz were far more accommodating of home visits and sessions at convenient times for me. They do get busy though, which i think is a good indicator of how good they are!

Hello ladies Congrats to all. I'm currently 10 weeks pregnant with my first. All seems to be going well, barely feel pregnant - no morning sickness, just fatigue and a bit queasy from time to time. Currently with Dr. Yuliya at Cooper clinic who seems wonderful - but then i don't have a reference point! She came highly recommended, so let's see! Probably going to give birth at medcare, even though heard some not good things. Our view is that if you have the right Dr who will be there and listen to your wishes, the location shouldn't be that important. The majority are going to be far better than i could expect back in the UK anyway! I'm recovering from a back problem so also looking for gentle exercise that will keep me in shape while not being too difficult on my back. So far i've been in touch with a couple of providers - my physio clinic, Up and Running, offers Pre-natal pilates with an excellent instructor, and Pure fitness offers prenatal yoga. I think exhale and zen yoga also do prenatal classes too. My problem is that i work like a demon, and often travel with work and many of these are mid week, 11am or something which with my work commitments is never going to be possible. If you hear of any weekend classes then please do let me know, otherwise i think i'll just have to get a personal trainer who can fit in with my schedule. Again recommendations gratefully received! Looking forward to sharing the next few months with you, it's going to be a great learning curve!

Also with Dr. Yuliya, had first appointment with her last week and she was very comprehensive, did a great job taking history, explaining process and package. Had blood and urine tests for antenatal screen, and she added some more tests because of Husband's history. Also gave a first ultrasound and was able to find heartbeat on first go. Determined exact age of baby from length, so i now know i'm 7 weeks along. Was worried about finding a doctor that i trusted and who communicated well, especially after all the comments on the forum. Only slight concern now is about medcare as reviews seem mixed, but i think the doctor is more important than the facility you deliver in. Good luck finding a new doctor!
