Incidentally, it seems like one should be eligible for travel insurance - at least on this world nomads site - which allows you to buy it anytime anywhere (must not be in home country). It seems like if your visa is cancelled, you are then on a visitor's visa and therefore a resident again of your home country...not sure though!

Interesting...it was just odd I talked to HR and they said it wasn't needed to cancel the visa but in order to get my husband's last paycheck, we'd have to surrender the card? I can't handle the thought of being without insurance...UGH

The wildlife sanctuary/falconry mews at Banyan Tree was great - we took our 3 year old to see the falcons and we all enjoyed it. very lovely out there too.

Thanks for all the love and support! It was so nice to come back to the thread and read. My doctor is an American (at American Hospital) and I'm an American...hence the recommendation. The issue is that she recommends that in the US you would have a gyno-oncologist perform the surgery and there just isn't one here in the UAE. Scary, huh! I have 2 more doctor appointments to get through this weekend, and then I'll have to decide. I'm not sure now that I have many other options but again any support or if there is anyone else whose been there before would be great to hear from.

Just responding to an old thread to see about your outcome and whether you found any support here? May be facing something similar and just trying to find anything out right now.

Have you tried Dubai Animal Rescue Centre? They post pix and find homes. Pretty quickly. If you are strapped, I may be able to convince my husband for us to take him. Is there a way to private message on this board???

Hi Ladies, looking for a recommended place for bikini waxing in the barsha area. I really want to go to a place with hard (self hardening) wax - any recommendations for a place anywhere that uses this? Checked the older posts but not sure if they are still applicable....Thanks!

UGH! The first time we went to the Dubai mall was during the big Eid. It was CRAZY. There were a couple neat things going on, but the trade off is that it took us an hour just to get out of the parking lot. And, public transit (bus that connects to the metro) and taxis all sit in the same traffic. Just be aware!

Hi! I was just going to post on the same thing - I am looking to start nursery for my soon to be 3 yo son and this one struck me. Haven't visited yet, but wondered being new, if they had worked out the "kinks" yet. Will need to visit soon but would appreciate any advice. Also looking at Blossom and Inspire.

has anyone else dealt with prescription medication not available here? I have a condition called IC that requires a medication, that my middle eastern doctor back in the states was sure would be available, now does not seem to be available! german doctor I saw here in dubai was sure City Hospital would have it; he has another patient on the same meds. City told me they don't have it, it "isn't onthe UAE register"??? Also said there is an 8 week wait to get any and that likely actually means indefinitely. They sent me to Al Rashid, who of course said no government hospitals have it either - it isn't available. They told me to contact the manufacturer. Of course there is no UAE office for the manufacturer but each person gave a slightly different take that I still don't know for sure if it is ever available here in Dubai or not (it is not a banned drug here). So frustrated! I run out of meds tomorrow and so the relapse begins....UGH. Any advice????

Hi All, I just moved to dubai, al barsha, and need to find a gyn fairly quickly as I need a refill on some medicine. Would like to find a doc who would also be a potential OB as thinking about TTC soon. Anyone have any recommendations? I have no idea where to start looking - are there any locally based clinics with docs you can recommend in al barsha near MOE? Or do I have to go to healthcare city to get someone good? Thanks!

Hello all, I've just moved over and am in the market for a decent car under 20K dirhams. Something with four doors, reliable and safe (I hope this isn't asking for too much at this price range)....I've found a lot of Alfa Romeos seem to fit the price range, but I really don't know anything about the brand since they don't really have them in the USA. Was wondering what the local opinion of them was? Any other suggestions about models? I would love to have a 4x4 but don't think it is in the budget for the moment (want something 2000 or newer, 100km or less). Thanks!

that sounds like a great deal at Q! I was just there today but didn't check the mattresses! Another to do for tomorrow. Any one know anything about or have a Restonic matress? They claim their value line is great.

Super helpful! Keep it coming! We are packing as we are reading this. I have a 2yo so I'm bringing almost all of hist stuff as I've heard toys can get really expensive too. Love the shopping list - may have to include some of those items too. I was planning on relying heavily on IKEA once we get there to fill in the gaps. Do they have any decent (cheap is fine) dinnerware or should I buy some corelle ware to bring over? THANKS!!!

hello again, my husband, son and I are all moving to Dubai at the end of this month. we are trying to get all our ducks in a row including our wills. A friend suggested that we will need to get one done/revised over there anyway. We have a will now - what does one need to include when living in Dubai? thanks....
