Thanks for the suggestions! It looks like the easiest thing may just be to bring them with us as excess baggage. i looked at sky cargo that was suggested on another thread, but they only fly into Toronto and we are flying to Victoria. Thanks again

we are moving to a new villa in November/December that will require some modification, eg an additional internal wall and doors, enclosing the porch, 2 pagodas, and a few other small building jobs. Can anybody recommend a good, reliable and reasonably priced builder? I am happy to discuss and walk through the process with you if you would like. You can send me an email to my user name at g mail. HTH

Meggsy is right, they are adding an additional level at the C4 end which requires reinforcing of the current structure. They are also renovating the Kempinski as well as doing seismic upgrades which is causing a lot of the disruption in the carpark.

A friend of mine has two lovely kittens that need homes. She rescued them and their mum in Jumeirah Park, but sadly the mum had to be put down due to a severe eye infection. They are on the bin kitty website, or you can email me on my user name here at g mail and I can send you photos. Please do not buy a kitten when there are so many in need! edited by 4sidekicks on 19/09/2014

It sounds like a scam to me, but....7 years ago I completed an EW survey online and sent it off. A few months later, I had a call from a woman asking if I had seen her email about the cruise!? I had no idea what she was talking about and was very skeptical. Anyway, it turns out I had won the grand prize for filling out the EW survey and went on a cruise that was worth $5000. We were the youngest people by about 500 years and wouldn't go on a cruise again, but that's an entirely different story! It does happen, but I don't think it is legitimate in your case.

Well, the new one on Sheikh Zayed wouldn't do test pots... just got back from there. Such a bummer, all the little projects I see on blogs and pinterest and they always talk about just buying test pots. Oh well, I'll just have to limit my colour choices! I have some left over paint in colours that would on work projects from pinterest etc. I also have supplies to make chalk/Annie Sloan paint, and liming stain if you are interested as well. Send me an email at 4 side kicks (all one word) at g mail dot com and you are more than welcome to come over and help yourself to my paint supply! HTH edited by 4sidekicks on 27/08/2013

I'm looking for an interior decorator who would be willing to come in and help me to organize and maximize what we do have and also suggest sources, help to purchase where we need things, hire painters etc.. I don't want to have the house 'done' , more sort of gone through by someone who can give us ideas on how to work with what we have... Hi all, We are currently in the process of moving to Dubai from the UK (hoping to be there in August) and are frantically trying to find a good school for our twin 6 year old boys for September 2013. One of our boys is due to have an assessment by an educational psychologist this month at his current school in UK as he has some concentration issues and we anticipate he will need some individual/ special needs /learning support in the classroom. I've contacted a few schools in Dubai and they have hinted at having a limited Individual needs dept! :( So as well as the first issue that its almost impossible to get a place in most good schools; I'm also at my wits end about finding a school that will accommodate his needs and on top of this I really need to get them both into the same school as splitting them with make things much worse with too much change for them! Please please could anyone provide ANY tips, advice or guidance as to which schools have good provision for individual/ special needs? And how to best approach this and the schools? Any help and advice will be much appreciated :) Thanks Tjas

We are from Victoria and have flown back and forth many times over the past 6 years we have been here. In my opinion, the best flights by far are with KLM. You fly Dubai to Amsterdam and then Amsterdam to Vancouver. Once you arrive in Vancouver, I would book a hotel near the airport and stay the night. You can then fly to Victoria, which is only about 15-20 minutes, but can be very expensive as there is a great deal of travel between Van and Vic for business. You can rent a car, take a taxi, a shuttle bus or regular BC transit to the ferry. The ferry ride between Van and Vic is an hour and thirty five minutes and stunningly beautiful. Once you arrive in Victoria, it will take you about 45 minutes minutes to get to UVic. If you have any more questions about Victoria or UVic, you can email me on my user name at gmail. I grew up there and my husband, myself and both of my parents all went to UVic. HTH. edited by 4sidekicks on 12/03/2013

The management of Bradenton has changed since last year and I think that have made some very positive changes. My son has been there since September and I am incredibly happy with the school. He had a HORRIBLE year last year at another American school, and I have to say that our experience this year has been the complete opposite. He has a great teacher, the Elementary principal is fantastic, and his PE teacher is also wonderful. We have met a number of very nice parents that I now consider friends outside of school. Also, it is a small school and has a great sense of community. Of course everyone has different opinions and experiences, so I thought I would share mine! I think that it is worth giving them a call and having a tour of the school and decide from there. HTH

Does anyone or presumably their DH have a circular saw that I can borrow for a couple of hours today? I am trying to re-finish a table I am working on and want to cut the ugly notches off the sides. I almost killed the jigsaw attempting it yesterday.... I know I can rent one from ACE, but thought I would check here first and see if I could borrow one :-) TIA
