Hi there, my good friend's DS has just started at GEMS Wellington Al Khail, he has just turned 6. Sorry I'm not sure exactly what the term is for his Autism. Last year he was at the Devleloping child centre and they were basically getting him ready for mainstream school. The problem my friend found is that none of the schools want take the children with Speacial needs as they don't have the resources. GEMS Wellington Al Khail was the only one. (I'm pretty sure she approached every school in Dubai and got a "No sorry") She had a tough time finding a school willing to work with her DS,he's only been their two days but he has his own shadow and the school has an exclusions officer and so far my friend is very very happy that he and his older sister are at the same school. Hope this has helped, good luck.

Thank you all so much for your responses. Lolacat she has her own room next to her brothers. They have shared in the past but she tends to wind him up and at just ends up with two children staying up late. My DS is 4 yo and he tends to grab a few books and has a little read with one small lamp and will then just fall asleep. Bintyibbs2 thanks for your suggestion. I feel we kinda did that when we offered her to come in our bed. She still struggled getting to sleep but would come in every night without fail. I don't think she get to sleep any easier if she was in our bed initially as she'd still complain about the dark. I might try putting a bed on floor if she does come in the night. Her bad sleep habits were there long before she gave up sucking her thumb. However it's definitely a lot lot worse now as she obviously is finding it difficult getting it that sleepy state. Her comforter/special toy would have always been her thumb, she used wind her hair around her fingers and rub it under her nose at the same time. (I'm welling up now as I miss my little girl who used to find so much comfort in her own little thumb...I wish they could stay small forever) I've told her to start sucking it again just at bedtime. But she says it doesn't feel the same. She now has 3 out 4 if her top big teeth through. I really want her to go to sleep happy at night but it tends to end up stressful and fractious for both of us. I spoke with mum earlier and she suggested giving her dinner earlier so she can spend time winding down before she has her bath and story. Going to have a chat with her this afternoon and see if there is something specific that scares her. My gut instinct is that she just doesn't like being left alone (even if we're in another room or downstairs) and that's why when she wakes up she'll can't get back off to sleep unless we're there. I think we'll need to get some outside help but will continue to try and reassure her. Thanks everyone, I really appreciate it. Any recommendations for specialists in sleep her Dubai would be great.

I flew our dog back to UK last summer and did all the paperwork myself. DKC offer free advice. It ended up costing less than half of what I'd been quoted from the transfer company. I can't remember everything required, sorry but it's not as complicated as it initially looks. Sky cargo were also very helpful.

Good evening all, My 7 yr DD is struggling to go to sleep at night and is waking constantly. She never has been a great sleeper and would often wake in the night. She decided to stop sucking her thumb about a year ago and since then her getting off to sleep has been considerably worse. She is scared of the dark so insists on having lamps on and her bathroom light on. I know having lamps on aren't really helping settle her down but she freaks out if her room is too dark. She's always has a relaxing bedtime routine which is bath or shower followed by bedtime story or two with her brother. I'll allow her to read for a few minutes before asking her to switch her big light out and go to sleep. That's when she tends to start acting up. Every night it'll be something new. Something will hurt, an itch, sore leg, sore tummy. Scared of the dark, scared being on her own, am I going downstairs? I've lying with her but she'll only wake up later and end up coming in my bed. I've tried getting cross but that just makes it worse then I'll only feel terrible. I've tried treating as a "big girl" and letting her read after her younger brother has gone to sleep but she'll just drag out her bedtime to really late. Some nights it's gone 9 by the time she's gone off. She has an early start of 6.30 am and is always really sorry the next day and promises she''ll go to bed nicely. Every night she'll wake up and come into our room. I tried for a month recently just letting her climb in hoping she'd grow out of it as I thought she needed the reassurance. But it's no use she still comes in every night. I take her back to bed but she'll then cry. I have a 7 month old baby who still wakes twice a night but very rarely is it the baby that's disturbed her. She doesn't have nightmares and when I ask what it is that scares her she just says it's the dark. I really really am at a loss now what to do. It's almost that she's got a phobia about going to sleep. She never admits to being tired. I'm convinced her school work is being affected now as she doesn't appear as quick and sharp as she has previously. Last night between my 3 kids I was woken 5 times. Is there anyone we can see? Any suggestions would be great. TIA x

Hi there, Yes I understand your frustration. I flew our dog back to the UK in July and it does appear to be a very complicated procedure. I received a quote from DKCC and it was just too expensive, 8000aed. DKCC do however offer free advice. I found them very helpful and ended up doing it myself within two days at the cheaper cost of 3000 aed. Good luck

Hello all, I can make next Monday. I've not been to any other of the coffee mornings so happy to get there about 9.40 if that suits? Hope to see most of you there. I've definitely got a bump, I got big very quickly, I even had someone ask me at 7 weeks if I was expecting!

Dubai Centre for Special needs would probably love to take these off your hands. They have a shop in Karama but a drop off location near Safa Park near Gulf News. http://64.191.20.199/~horizons/userfiles/Donate%20for%20a%20good%20cause%2020-1-13(1).pdf
