Hi globetrotter1, I would really recommend Hummingbird Bakery in Dubai Mall. Amazing cupcakes (red velvet & carrot cake the best!) and yummy large cakes (Rainbow Cake looks amazing too). Great website and quite reasonable. Have tried cakes elsewhere & they didn't match up to Hummingbird.

Hi fellow February due daters! Our group has gone a little quiet of late!!! How is everyone getting on? I am now 25 weeks and baby is already facing down - kicking me up near my belly button instead!! I have the gestational diabetes test at the end of this week and am wondering how I will go without any food till 11.30am!! Feeling very greedy at the moment. Talking about greed ... How is everyone's weight gain? So far I have put on 8.5kg (hmmm already!!) ...I know the guidelines are from 12kg - 16kg in a normal weighted woman for the full pregnancy. Hope everyone is well xxx

Quite a few of us also meet up on the Monday morning Dubai Mall (Cost Coffee) mornings also - so come along to the next one :-) Hi AnonDubai - How are you? Have you found out the gender of your baby yet? Can't believe how quickly time is flying now!! I am huge already - someone said to me the other day that I look 9 months pregnant and when I said I am actually only 5 months - they then asked me if I was carrying twins then as I am so big - haha gotta laugh!! Baby is healthy and that is all that matters :-)

Hi Kitty-Kat, understand your dilemma. I went to SGH by default as when we first relocated here to Dubai (4.5 months ago) we went to them to confirm I was pregnant. I didn't know any better and it was the 1st hospital we found that could confirm it. My Doctor was by default too, I quickly found out that he did not have the same birth plan as me so as a result I changed Doctor and hospital pretty quickly to a recommended pro-natural Doctor (now I am a City). The thing for me is that when I was researching SGH, hardly anything came up on my searches and the little that did was not that positive really. I also heard that around 6 - 8 months of SGH opening (they are still fairly newish) the MD and his wife (who also happened to be the Head of Gyno at SGH) upped and left SGH ... it made me wonder what made them leave so quick - especially when it was so new?!! I also found that the equipment that my Dr was using at SGH was slightly dated, I only found this out when I changed Drs. The ultrasound machine at SGH in comparison to my new Dr was like something out of the 80's. When I went to confirm my pregnancy with them - the Dr wanted to do an internal examination and an ultrasound - I found that strange (coming from the UK) and asked him if a blood test would be better. He then replied "oh yes it would be more accurate" ??!! Leaving me thinking that he had offered the ultrasound and internal examination to make more money - it annoyed me that I had to question it. On the flip side I had a couple of blood tests there and the staff were very good (no bruising etc), the place is clean & the rest of the staff are smiling and happy to help. I would go for a tour & maybe compare with City, American or Al Zahra. I heard Al Zahra can fit people in as they are new still and very positive reviews. If you can guarantee that your current Doctor will def be there then that will make it a whole different experience ... Good luck & hope this helps :-)

Hi TanyaR, thanks for the advice. I tried to sleep with my legs elevated last night but ended up kicking the pillows off the bed onto the floor in my sleep!! Think I will try hirudoid gel though. Hi Alismum - thanks for the apple cider vinegar remedy - def going to try that too. Right think I should have enough lotions and potions to zap these varicose veins away now!! xx

I can now feel my baby move about too - especially when I change positions in bed at night. Cute baby likes to move with me!! Haha JZJunior - I was at the Marina Mall this morning - possibly we met?! I was wearing a dress that looks like a stick of rock (long maxi striped dress). Is anyone going to the coffee morning at Costa, Dubai Mall this Monday at 10 - 12?? Would be great to meet some more Feb DD's! xx

Hello Elderflower! Thanks on the congrats. Congrats to you too! I have heard good things about the maxi-cosi pebble - will now look up the bugaboo chameleon too. Sounds very practical too. Maternity clothes seem more difficult to find here, I have just ordered some fabulous maternity clothes from ASOS in the UK (and they were in the sale - bonus!). My husband is bringing them back from the UK. I would also like to hear where you can get nice maternity clothes from - I looked in Mothercare and a couple of other shops and it was just too mumsy for me :-( Hi torjetaylor! I will arrive for 10am tomorrow (probably 5 mins before). Okay I will look out for you, I will be wearing a nude/caramel fitted maxi-dress. Hopefully see you there! x

Hi Slurp81, great thanks for that. The epi-no looks really good for afterwards as well so def am getting myself one! Thanks for the website link - I checked and as usual it is cheaper to order from UK. Will get my sister to pack it into her suitcase when she comes over - hope Dubai Airport don't get funny about it!!!! Thanks for your notes on Perineal Massage also - will check with my Dr what he thinks about starting at 30 weeks and see. May leave it a little longer to be safer I suppose!! Thanks and all the best your pregnancy - 10 days before you EDD is not too long now!! :-)

Thanks for feedback Slurp81 and don't worry ChuckyDucky I will not be starting too soon - think 32 weeks is more than adequate. Slurp81 - when did you start using the epi-no? (which week of pregnancy) Thanks!! xx

Yes I would say it is fine - in fact probably better than swimming in a pool. I went swimming in a hotel pool at 2 months pregnant and came out in a really nasty rash everywhere. I thought it was from too much chlorine but turns out it was my pregnancy hormones making my skin super sensitive! It took 2 weeks and lots of calamine lotion for the rash to go away! We went to Fujairah a couple of weeks back and loved the cool temperatures - it was only 34c one day whilst 44c in Dubai!!

Has anyone got any recommendations for a car seat & buggy - especially those that have had children before (tried & tested)? I have ruled out a Graco as the car seat is inclined too high and makes babies head fall forward restricting the airway - apparently?!! I have heard good things about the Chicco Travel System & the Mothercare Spin. Would really appreciate anyone elses feedback!! :-)

Hi torjetaylor! Thanks for the welcome & congrats. Good to know I am not the only one worrying all the time! I would be interested in going along to the Dubai Mall Coffee Morning next week - do you know what day it is? I am new to this site and not the greatest at navigating my way around the site. Interested to meet up if you are going along? Adjusting to Dubai quite well now, the first 3 months was a challenge with the heat if I am honest & I usually the sun/heat!! Like that it is cooling down a little now tho. Hi AnonDubai - that sounds great to me forgetting your pregnant! Good idea waiting to tell your children till you find out the gender. I am hoping for a NVD birth also and want to try to breastfeed. I am readying myself with plenty of books. I seem to be more concerned about breastfeeding than the birth at the moment. Am sure that will all change soon enough!

Hi - expect you are excited for your fourth and know all the pregnancy tricks! Yes I think we were lucky as we found out at 14.5 weeks which is pretty early. Good luck at your 20 weeks scan - hope you get to find out the gender. Have you told your other children yet? Expect they will be excited too!! I have the anomaly scan in a couple of weeks and am hoping all will be okay. Did you have natural births with your other 3 children? And do you recommend any ante natal classes at all? xx

Hi there everyone & congrats to you all on your wonderful baby news. I relocated to Dubai from the UK in June and we pretty much found out I was pregnant the day we relocated (it was quite an emotional goodbye to family & friends!) I am due on 17th Feb 2014 and this is our 1st baby - so everything is totally new. I seem to be obsessing over everything - hope this is normal!! By default I started out with Dr Hammami at Saudi German Hospital as he confirmed my pregnancy, however now I have decided I would like to try and go as natural as possible for the birth (signed my hubby and I up to Hypno-Birthing classes with Jasmine Collins in October). I started to feel my former Dr did not want to follow my birth plan particularly so I have now changed Drs to Dr Christian Josza - and he delivers at City Hospital. I don't work - I was planning on working when we arrived but the 1st trimester was particularly bad for me so I was forced to turn down a great contract role I was offered here and rest instead. I would be really interested in meeting up for coffee with anyone, especially those of you who are not working at the moment and have lots of free time! I live in downtown. Hope to hear from you soon xx
