Hi I don't have a santa fe so can't comment on that, but I do own a hyundai tucson I purchased new from the showroom on SZR about a year ago so i can comment on customer service.. I have to say that the customer service at that time was incredibly poor, bad communication, extra costs added on at the end which were not made clear at the start, took them ages to register the vehicle, kept saying it would be ready, but it wasn't. I wasn't the only one in this position, there were numerous people all in the same situation, it was one thing after another. There wasn't any interior mats available when I collected and was told to return later, everytime I went back they still didn't have any, now its too late so I bought some myself elsewhere. (not a huge deal but a bit annoying when you buy a car new...) As I do little mileage its only just had its first major service (10k) and that was actually ok, they seemed pretty efficient to be fair. The car itself is ok, not my first choice but its our second car and I was comparing the price with that of a toyota yaris and I got a bit of a bigger car and more extras as you say. You do seem to get a lot for your money with Hyundai and so far I've had no problems with it mechanically (although its hardly used to be honest as I used my husbands as he's away a lot), again realise its not the same car but still a hyundai! Basically if you can survive the purchase process without wanting to pull your hair out, you'll probably be fine ;) edited by itsonlyme on 30/10/2013

Hi I have a Samsung galaxy tab 2 (10"screen) I find it easy to use, apps are easily found on the Play store. If you're familiar already with Android you'll have no problem. I have a laptop too but the tablet is great for travelling. I got a nice purple case for it from SharafDG which means it can stand up (I've also bought a bluetooth keyboard for it but haven't used it yet).

Hi Can you let me know more details, we don't have to move until Jan but we know our landlord wants us to leave , because he wants to sell.....(not because we're nightmare tenants!) (just discussed with DH hence editing my post) so there may be flexibility there. Mainly need to know price, which Springs, and is it anywhere near the main road (have cats). Thanks! edited by itsonlyme on 24/09/2013 edited by itsonlyme on 24/09/2013

Hi all We bought some (plastic) rattan furniture over a year ago thats now seen better days due to the lovely summers ;) but the frame itself is essentially sound, does anyone know of anywhere who will 're-thread' it? Whilst it wasn't hugely expensive it wasn't that cheap either and I love the shape (and the cushions are still in perfect condition!) so would be great if we could repair rather than having to bin it and buy another. thanks :)

Hi , what colour is her collar? Is she quite a large cat? I have had a large black and white cat appearing in my garden frequently much to the disdain of my cat ;-) they seem to have nightly arguments at the moment..I am also in Al Reem 2.

Ok now i'm pretty confused - sorry if I'm being really stupid, but does this just apply to government companies or also private companies? Husband and kids are on AD visa but we live (and work) in Dubai. Husband is on AD visa for various reasons I can't go into here, but he's based in Dubai although travels 2/3 weeks out of every month to Saudi/Qatar etc. (I'm on my own Dubai visa as another problem i had was I couldn't work for my employer on a spouse visa issued in another emirate! so my employer had to sponsor me instead). Our house is covered by the company, but the tenancy contract is in husbands name and is obviously a Dubai tenancy contract. Kids visas are up in August (husbands was renewed in may). Will we have problems even though he works for a private company? Seems to be so much going on/flying around at the moment, I heard it on the radio this morning, noone seems to really know? Spoke to my husband and he says not to worry about it that its his companys problem and his PRO will sort it one way or another! Hopefully if push comes to shove they'll have to just give him/kids Dubai visas instead and deal with the issues that causes with him not being ADvisad! (I hope....!) edited by itsonlyme on 25/06/2013

Hi Googlemaps is pretty good, you can see on there the location of the pools and proximity to the shops etc. Depends whereabouts in Springs 3 really as to how close you are, one side is very close and backs onto Spinneys, the other end would be a bit of a walk to the shops. https://maps.google.com/maps?q=25.057456,55.174614&num=1&t=h&z=14 There isn't a pool in Springs 3, but one end is close to the pool in Springs 2 and the other side close to the pool in Springs 4. edited by itsonlyme on 09/06/2013

Hi How old are your kids? I live on the ranches and my kids are all over 10, I'll be back in Dubai from 1st august so happy to meet up :) But to be honest from the minute you get here you will be so busy you won't have time to worry about anything ;-) we seem to have a different rate of time here, approx twice as fast as the rest of the world! Good luck with the move, there will be frustrations but enjoy it because its so exciting and soon whizzes past!

Thanks . Good idea. His family are Oz but I'm British so that is not an option. I need to investigate jobs here. Thanks all. Was just a shock today. I totally sympathise, I think by now I'd be completely in bits, you seem such a strong lady and a great mum like others have said. I think the fact you've made it work here for you, it takes a while for anyone to get settled in a new country and you've only been here since September! I think we were here a year before we finally were settled and sorted out. I hope things get sorted for you - I don't wish to be personal but what does he say about it, is it cut and dried that he's going and he's not listening to your side at all? There's always a way, and things always work out one way or another, but by the sounds of it, a move to KL would not be good for you.

Tell your husband either he finds another job here in Dubai or you're going back to the UK with the children... Sorry but you've struggled here from the word go, it's insensitive of him, to say the least, to even expect you to upsticks yet again and no doubt on an equally rubbish package... sorry. Totally agree with this. Feefmick I don't post a lot really but I've seen your story on the boards since the start and I think you've done amazingly well given your reservations at the start with the package you were offered, and its a complete blow that as you were finally finding your feet this has now happened. I'm all for supporting our Other Halfs with their careers, but he's not a single man, he has a wife and two children to think about and its about time he did (sorry if this seems harsh), if you moved for 6months, with the upheaval of school, and then came back to dubai, you'd be back at square one with those school places you had so much heartache over getting in the first place.

Are you sure his '' bits '' are gone?? ;) My cat does that during the day until he sees me then he finds a spot in the house and settles. At night he is in the house, but we keep him in the small room next to the kitchen so he doesn't have the run of the house going around shouting looking for everyone,at first he hated it and yowled for ages(i felt really bad :( ,but now he comes home about 7.30 and goes straight to ''his room'' where his food is waiting and now not a sound. Its a bit easier for us though we only have 1. Yep, definitely gone, haha!! Poor thing was found in Al Barsha with a twisted testicle so the whole lot was sorted (before I got him) but I did get the vet to check last time he was in because I did wonder myself! At least being so loud managed to save him when he was locked in the house next door! I did mention his noisiness to the vet who thought perhaps he was deaf! But he definitely hears the tap of a tuna tin so we ruled that out ;)

Can anyone help with my cat - he's a year old, has definitely been 'done' but he is SO LOUD! He wanders the house yowling his head off, he gets lots of attention, we have another cat also and they get on with each other, so he's got company when I'm not there. I do let them out, because if I didn't, I would go insane. He wants to be outside all the time. At nighttime, noone gets any sleep because he is yowling and just won't settle. Any ideas?

myfitnesspal.com is really really good. I have the app on my phone too and it can barcode scan items too. When I cook from scratch I try and err on the cautious side when calculating the calories. Its really worked for me, I've lost a few kg's (nowhere near enough!) but its definitely helped me realise where my calories go and make better choices on a daily basis. Sometimes it seems I can eat absolutely loads of food and still be 'under' my calorie level!

See I do have ocd tendancies, but unfortunately because I'm so busy (like most of us I guess!) I don't get chance to be as organised as I should - and it makes me anxious!! Is that really sad!? I sit in work, especially if its a 'quiet' day, thinking I'd much rather be at home doing something far more useful like sorting out my kitchen cupboards!! My house needs a good sort out - we don't have huge amounts of clutter as not been here that long, but its just all in the wrong place..........

Echo other posts re Mina A Salam. I do like the brunch there and have up until now sat outside at Al Muna and always enjoyed. Went today due to Barclaycard offer and we were seated in The Wharf. I honestly think it was cooler outside. We were boiling hot and tightly packed in and it was really loud! Service was good though. Will go again as have a entertainer voucher but only in cooler weather and only in Al Muna.

That's the thing re the sales though, I've been checking prices since Jan to fly to Manchester and Emirates definitely haven't had a sale on that route for that time and neither have Etihad. I've also been checking out Qatar regularly and their prices are much better . I'd held off booking in the hope Emirates might have a sale but I'm getting jittery now ;-) kLM are coming in slightly less than Qatar for me right now so just need to check timings etc. I know transfers in Doha are meant to be easy but can anyone who's done the route via Amsterdam tell me how the transfer is there? Will be travelling alone with 3 kids (although they're not littlies) but want least stress possible really!

Thanks TDB :) been checking since January and they dont seem to have changed much (this is for my summer flights) I guess they know a lot of people want to travel then but last year I did get it for a reasonable price via a sale I think but unless I've missed it (hope not As I have been checking obsessively) they don't seem to have had one this year....this would be to Manchester UK I ask about the last minute flights just curious if you can say book same day to fly that night if they'd sell them cheap just to fill seats...but then I guess they'd worry that everyone would just wait then ;-)

AL Reem 1 - in my vicinity the villa opposite has been empty since before xmas and there are two down the road plus one round the corner... I see others as we drive to school... I'min Al Reem 2, and there was one on the street near me empty for ages, I think it might still be, they were asking a lot for it, another one has popped up on Street 1 too,I do thinkalot of it is the landlords trying it on. edited by itsonlyme on 15/04/2013 I just left st 1 al Reem 2 near gate as foundations on house have gone. I think LL is going to try and sell it on as quote to fix problem was more than knocking house down and rebuilding it! edited by starsouthern on 15/04/2013 If its the house very closest to gate on right hand side as you drive in through the gate then yes, its up for sale! :/ edited by itsonlyme on 16/04/2013

I do miss the M&S 'Dine in for £10' that included wine! :D I went to UK last year with empty suitcases and will do the same this year, I stocked up on clothes for the kids for the entire year, mostly in the sales, bought some shorts/tshirt bargains for the kids and the lady on the till said would I get wear out of them considering the summer 'had been so awful'......had to find a way of saying but I live in Dubai without it sounding too gleeful!! Food prices I actually find simliar to what we were spending in UK although on thinking about it, I do think it may be a bit more expensive than it was when we first arrived (2011). I hate having to shop around in fact I hate supermarkets full stop! I do miss tesco/asda online delivery!

Well it seems my errant black cat is trapped in the house next door! After much tapping of tin and whistling last night, I did occasionally hear a cry but couldn't figure out where it was coming from and thought perhaps I was imagining it! Went out this morning at 6am and whistled..can clearly hear him inside the house - thing is, the lady who lives there has gone on holiday! arghhhh!! I'm consoling myself with the fact at least he's somewhere cool (assuming her a/c is on) and he can access water in the toilet!! I have no idea when she's back...but its definitely him I'd recognise his loud yowl anywhere!

I went to the Isle of Man in my final year of primary and that was so exotic and exciting! It must have cost quite a bit for my mum and dad too, you don't think about these things at the time, I know they were hard up then as well :( Had a fab time though. My middle son goes into year 7 next year and I know the school will be doing expensive trips, in primary the trips were about 1400 and I thought that was bad enough. You are between a rock and a hard place as a parent, you don't want them to miss out. When my husband was in secondary his parents said he could go on one trip abroad with school during the whole time he was in school, back then it seemed most abroad trips were skiing, so he went to Italy when he was in equivalent of year 8 or 9 so we might adopt that, we certainly can't afford for him to go every year, especially when his younger sister goes up to secondary too. edited by itsonlyme on 20/03/2013

Snugs I agree with you. In my sons old school in Europe they used to have a 3 day camping trip that was included in the fees. Now he comes home with letters re trips to Africa, US, SE Asia that cost an arm and a leg. When he brings a letter home that states, "your child has expressed an interest in going to Timbuktu" I gasp at the price then ask my son if he has saved up enough pocket money to be able to afford it :) . In our day it was Style Mill and Jodrell Bank yawn fest and we took sandwiches and a drink :-) You must be from a similar neck of the woods to me Sarahlou, used to go to those places and Tatton Park too ;-)

Agree with you on many of your points, as usual behaviour pretty shocking from a few, I was near the front and witnessed many fights. However security were spot on with zero tolerance and we saw loads being 'forcibly removed'. Enjoyed the sets especially Richard Ashcroft, bars were inefficient so only had a couple of drinks (fine by me saved money!) So stayed sober which was probably a good thing. At one point the crowd was more entertaining than what was happening on the stage lol . Left about 30mins into Zane Lowe and yet again had to argue my point to man blocking taxi queue as to why I wanted a taxi and not to go on free bus. (Same thing happened last time!) I live in Ranches...why would I want to go to Marina or MOE! Also seemed pretty naughty they were telling us no normal taxis and only hotel taxis, but I could see queue of normal taxis being held back. Again had to specifically request normal taxi cos I'm not paying hotel taxi rates!! Enjoyed the night, certainly not complaining these are just my observations. It never ceases to amaze me at how some people behave when they've had a drink and why they possibly think its acceptable! (And I'm no old fogey I'm mid 30's too been to loads of gigs and festivals including V fest too!:-)) edited by itsonlyme on 16/03/2013 We live in the Ranches and got the free bus to the Marina where we easily picked up a taxi - a lot easier than joining the horrendous queues for taxis at the venue... Thankfully queue wasn't too bad only waited 5 mins but did consider that so will bear that in mind next time if we time it wrong with the taxi queue! :-)

Security were good ! Yes agree the dramas around us were very entertaining ! Not something you normally see here! But I would say people with the pushing not waiting in line which is generally whats fans do ( I've waited 3 hours fir prince to be at front)attitude would have got a deserving punch in face at a normal festival ! Totally agree, but that's what caused a lot of the fights near us, thankfully security could easily spot the pushers and pulled them out. At one point some large guy was kicking off and security literally jumped the barrier and got him in a head lock! Took three large security guys to get him out..then there was the two identikit blonde girls pushing straight to the front telling people around 'whatyou gonna do about it then'. Security came over, they taunted him ,then suddenly security appeared from behind and escorted them out too... Very entertaining lol. If I was Noel and had noticed I'd have put down the guitar and said 'when you're ready to watch me I'll carry on'.Because no eyes were on him at one point ;)) UK fests you get the pushers but I've rarely seen security actually do anything about it- the crowd normally deals with it and shames the pushers (or just close ranks don't let them past, hehe!) From a fellow 'wait for hours' fan ;) Usually in the rain too..!! edited by itsonlyme on 16/03/2013

I understand its because its assumed us working mums spend all weekend with our families/husbands, but an earlybird coffee would be great, a meet up, chat and still have the rest of the day. I couldn't go every week, as it would depend what else we had on, but as a working mum I feel i don't fit into any 'category'...at work I'm in the minority (having kids that is) and I'm also a little older than most of my colleagues, I have older kids as well so don't fit into the 'mums and tots' category, and the fact I work means I can't attend any coffee mornings anyway! Basically, what I'm saying is, I have no friends, lol

Hiya We didmuch same as you, husband moved here and I didn't make any plans until I knew we had school places. It wasn't until about the May time, or possibly even June, that we applied. We were told the usual 'ooh its tricky to get places for all three', but the school came through in the end (applied to two). You shouldn't have any problem for your eldest, its primary places that are more highly sought after I'm told. We had no problems with our eldest (who was going into year 9 at the time) but our other two are in primary and their places were a bit more tricky. have hope :) and good luck!

Hi thanks for replying! I'll do a search for names and then I guess its a case of just choosing someone for the consultation? I'm 11stone and a size 14, i guess I ought to try and lose a bit more although have lost two stone gradually over the past two years. If I went for a consultation and was told I was too heavy I suppose I'd have to go back for another consultation so maybe I ought to wait until I'm about 10stone ish? How tall are you? I weigh the same but am 5ft 8 and a size 12 ( although some tiny clothes shops i am a 14) Dr Khan is supposed to be excellent at this and when i was having my surgery ( not tummy tuck) there was a lady close by who had travelled from Africa to see him I had my consultation and my appt was 6 weeks later however there was a cancellation and i had the procedure done within 2 weeks. The pre-care and after-care was fantastic and if i were ever to do another procedure i would go and see him He isnt the cheapest but one of the best here I'm 5'4" (and a bit ;)) so short lol - I can get into some size 12's but truly honestly am a genuine 14 (I think my tummy takes up a lot of room, haha, perhaps if I do get a TT I might fit 12's properly ;)). I'll search for Dr Khan..thanks! :) edited by itsonlyme on 06/03/2013
