Many years ago I worked for a mortgage company and any outstanding payments on leasehold properties would be debited to the customers mortgage if they were in arrears. It's in the terms and conditions that they keep these up to date. Not sure if it's still the same but I suspect it is. Find out who the mortgage is with and just send an invoice asking for payment. Bet they pay it.

I have a local bank account and have never been charged for anything other than using someone else's ATM machine 2dhs, which I find totally acceptable. I'd move your bank account. Try NBAD in the Meadows.

You could try the salvos or lifeline! Thats about the best I can think of. Thanks - yes the salvation army said they would take everything and just found a form online to request. I would definitely say the Salvos, also. They can sell things in their op shops and the money goes where it needs to for relief. thanks - have filled in the online form and will wait to hear. Now i just need to bring back a small amount of personal items that would be a bit to much for excess luggage - pictures/clothes/shoes - any suggestions for freight?

I need to clear the contents of a 1 bed apartment (all in good condition but I don't have the time or inclination to sell) normal stuff - bed sofa telly kitchen stuff washing machine etc. I would love to let a struggling family or battered wives hostel take it all? Any suggestions?

We shipped our contents over here from the UK without the insurance - decided it wasn't worth the money and just the lid of my bin got dented. Maybe luck but I love taking risks!

Hi SuzyDuzy, I'm sure CP won't take offense - I will certainly check with immigration. the horse's mouth in the USA i'm sure is much more reliable than here I would imagine! I take nothing seriously from officials here! Dear Desert Doodle, no offense to Cornish Pixie but with such issues I would check directly with immigration. I am a travel agent and it is ALWAYS best to hear it from the horse's mouth with immigration/visa issues for non-tourist visas. She is probably right, but if it were me, I would want to be 100% sure...

have a look at this website http://www.clydeco.com/recruit/ I am currently thinking of relocating to dubai as my sister lives there but I am looking for something in the law department like a paralegal or legal assistant to start with, or even a trainee position. I have been looking for a legal position (as a legal adviser or law consultant) for some time now but havnt been able to secure a position, I dont have years of legal experience since I only graduated a year ago, but I have 6 years of working in debt recovery/credit control, administration and customer service. I have been on every single website but still no luck at the moment, and I am thinking it is because I am not already in Dubai. Maybe it would be easier for me to just move there for a couple of months and search on the ground. Any advice? I have friends and family that live there so I wouldnt be totally on my own, I just didnt want to leave my current position without finding one first. PS: As anyone heard of the CBL International Dubai Law School? wanted to enrol on the course to get basic knowledge on UAE laws, but is it worth it? or valuable? Would you have any pointers of where i should start looking and regarding the salaries as well? Negociations? etc... Thank you

I have an HSBC debit card and get an SMS every time its used. Not long ago I went to Sharif at Times Square and purchased an item for 95 AED. I'm standing at the checkout and get an SMS that 950 AED has come out of my acct. The clerk then passes me the slip to sign for 95 - I said but you just took 950 out of my acct - where's that slip? "Oh no, Madam, it didn't go through, I made a mistake and cancelled it". After a brief argument, I called the duty manager who managed to contact the bank and get it reversed. If I wouldn't have had the SMS, I can't imagine the process I'd have to go through to get my money back. Be careful. Same thing happened to me in DG Sharif - the cashier put a tumble dryer through twice on my credit card 2295 and of course i got two text but he didn't admit it I had to point it out as I got two texts! he said don't worry I've done the refund. I know it takes ages for refunds to go through - such a pain in the b*m

see..... another case of someone stating exactly what they are looking for (Europeans only)!!! makes sense to me - why waste peoples time in applying if thats not what they want? you see job adverts all the time "UAE Nationals only" or even I have seen "must be good looking!"

I thought I would get away with it but they sent it off for repair and it came back with an unrepairable due to water damage! ooppss they asked did you spill anything on it? I said I might have splashed a little coffee on the keyboard? Didn't work so now I need to replace. I was at work when it happened though you'd think they would be more understanding? Souk.com sounds good - not bothered about it being top totty

Hi I have been looking up at VH too at it looks really lovely. My only concern was the access roads to springs area where kids goes to school. does anyone know if there is going to be a quicker route to springs with all the new roads going in? And on another note - any swimming pool experts out there? there is a pool with equipment to activate chiller/heater - how much would that cost? TIA

Like most industries here in Dubai, nothing is regulated so anyone can write a will for you and charge the earth. You will also find most lawyers out here haven't got a clue about will writing except if the specialize it that particular area. I come from a financially regulated background and gasp most of the time at what people can do out here without any real form of training. Even down to beauty salons, in the UK all beauticians undergo training and certification just to be let loose on your toe nails. Whilst between jobs a few years ago I did a course on will writing in the UAE and a simple test at the end allowed me to take instructions for wills. I haven't used it as I got another job really quickly. You will find most will writing services in the UAE will be run by people who have no legal background. I have met Patricia at Holbourn Assets, she is a real lawyer who specializes in will writing and inheritance laws in the UAE. However, like everything here you will only know when it happens to you and as they seem to make the rules up as they go along I don't think one case will ever be the same as the next! Good luck!

Yours son's school should do this for him, as all senior students that transfer to Uni or school in the US require it. Basically a transcription shows all subjects that he has learned since Year 9 (English Curriculum), his grades are entered and then it shows what the year credit (hours taught) is for each subject. It must be signed and stamped by the school headteacher. If he is in an English Curriculum school which has not completed one of these before, I can provide you with a blank transcription form for the school to complete. Let me know if you need this and post your email address and I can send to you. Kaydee Kaydee Thanks can you email me the form Let me know when you have got this and I will delete my email. edited by Desert Doodle on 15/03/2011
