Hi, I have been asked to get some terms of business translated from English into French and am looking for some recommendations please. Many thanks in advance. Louise Hi Louise, I've had a couple of English to French and French to English things translated by a Paris based company [url='>http://www.linguatolingua.com[/url'> . I was v happy with their work and would recommend them.

Thank you all! Looks like I'm paying way too much? Might change agency...although the lady they send me is very good. I don't think AED45 an hour is too much IF you're very happy with the person they send you (and if they don't cancel on you last minute, arrive several hours late [or several hours early: I'll never forget the persistent ringing on the doorbell and loud mobile phone conversation outside my bedroom window about how 'madam isn't home' AT 6.45AM!!!'>, send a different cleaner every week etc etc). I completely gave up on agencies several years ago because of all their antics, and would happily pay 45 an hour if I knew I'd get consistency and a cleaner I was happy with. An extra aed10-20 (or more...) at the end of her shift, cash in hand, will be appreciated I'm sure, and is worth it if you're happy with her work.

Hi all! Where can I find steel cut oats in Dubai? I've checked nearly all the bigger supermarkets maybe I've missed them. Any ideas please? Organic foods and cafe always (usually...) has them in stock and they're not heinously expensive either!

Thanks all for your replies. Spinneys apparently don't butcher their own meat so they don't have them, and Park and shop which always used to be a 'proper' butcher in days gone by only has frozen marrow bones. Interesting that you get them when you ask in C4! I'm asking the wrong person apparently, and will try again... Thanks again :-)

Has anyone seen beef bones for sale at any of the supermarkets? I like to make my own broth/stock but only seem to find chicken. In Carrefour moe they have a pack labelled as just 'bones', but according to one of the butchers (who was wearing ****** gloves....and touched all the packets, and the fridge, and then a door, then came back out through the door to recheck the packets for me :\:), they're lamb. TIA

Something I advise all my friends to do is make a phone call as soon as they're in the taxi to say "just letting you know I'm in the taxi, will be home/there/with you etc in XX minutes". if it's late at night and I'm going home to an empty house I'll do a fake call or I'll call the person I've just left. I also always sit in the back. As an alternative über are great and you can now pay for the trip in cash (before it was paid by the credit card registered to the account), and you get a picture of the driver, his name and car before he does the pickup. We avoid the pink taxis wherever possible because sadly they're perpetuating the myth that women can't drive!

Hello! Does anyone know of an affordable and nice compound in Jumeirah/umm Suqeim ( max 185K for 3 bedrooms)? TIA Hi samram, We're not exactly in a compound, it's more like a normal residential area, in Al Bada'a (near City Walk) and there are dozens of empty 3 bed villas for approx 180k I believe (they were all used by emirates for pilots, but Emirates moved everyone to the Emirates owned compounds). The management company is Al Wasl properties (they have several offices in Dubai) and I have to say they are excellent. The villas themselves are government owned. Might be worth a look!

I think the timings are within legal/allowable limits, and our house is a Government of Dubai one so I guess it's in my landlord's best interest that Dubai is booming and building ;) We can't stop the building, and delaying it is pointless, it IS going to keep being built...I just wanted an insiders guess at how long we'll be tortured with the boring for! Thanks for your concern though bingo bye: Bad news is that up the street in the opposite direction to the current building site a new patch of derelict land has just been cordoned off and it looks like the 'info board' is being erected as we speak  I really hope they're both new malls, we just don't have enough

Your child is lacking nutrients and vitamins.Picky eating in children is seen around the age of one when toddlers show an independence to choose the foods they want to eat. If your child is continuing to refuse the food in this manner, it would be better to get the advice from the experts and feed your child as the way they instructs. http://www.pickyeatersarabia.com/en/experts-advice/ Interesting link remu, but it is basically a sales site for a food supplement, posing as a place for professional advice for worried parents... OP I wish I could offer you some advice or help with your problem in some way, it must be extremely frustrating and anxiety inducing for you to deal with your LO at mealtimes ?

I was at festival centre today and the oxo stand has gone! And with hindsight it was actually well before Ramadan that I was last there so perhaps it's been gone a while. I seem to remember that galleries Lafayette in Dubai mall has a reasonable selection of oxo stuff in their kitchen section so hopefully you'll find what you want there. Happy hunting :-)

Hi All, Has anyone recently seen the OXO concession stall near to IKEA in Festival City Mall? There was a concession in MOE maybe two years ago, but that ceased and the last time I needed an OXO product I headed over to FC. I know that ACE stock some OXO items but I specifically want Baby Products and know that the concession stocked them. TIA I was last at festival centre maybe three weeks ago and it was there: I'll be heading there this week and I'll update you if you like/can wait that long!

Morning Ladies, Has anyone managed to get rid of these black beetles before their plants were demolished? The Garden Centre only has 1 litre of pesticide available and only 1.5ml is needed (as a diluted spray) once and again two weeks later! My Mum mentioned Derris, but not sure if this is available here. Any other suggestions would be welcome :) TIA Try using a neem oil based insecticide, I've had great success with it on my citrus trees against various bugs. I got a huge bottle from Dubai garden centre (and you dilute 10ml of oil with 1l of water so it'll last me decades), but last week I happened to see that Speedex (near Natuzzi on SZR) had smaller bottles. It's worth a try!

Hello every one, I have listed an item for sale on Dubbizle and spme one is offering me to buy it via Paypal and since they have moved to south Africa they send a shipping company to pick it up... Spunds not right to me...! Anyone had or heard similar experience pls? Don't do it! This is a fairly common scam. What these despicable scam artists do is wire you the money via PayPal and they then have a month to lodge a dispute with PayPal (e.g. Claim that the item was damaged beyond repair when they received it/wrong item/item is a fake etc etc). PayPal will side with a buyer 99% of the time and will recredit the buyer and charge it to you! I don't know how people that do things like this sleep at night

Do you think rent prices will increase, decrease, or stay steady between now and June/July? We are moving within Dubai and *might* have the flexibility to move either now (in April) or delay it 1-2 months. I'm torn between 2 schools of thought: 1) There are more expats moving out of Dubai in early summer (end of school term) so there are more properties available. Which means more choices and able to bargain more. 2) There are more expats moving to Dubai in summer so while there are more properties opening, people are also coming to fill them. Landlords and estate agents know that and rates can stay steady or increase. Also LL can increase rent to whatever they want once a tenant vacates (right?). What do you think about rents? What would you do if you were in this position? Not sure about increase/decrease etc, but I know Al Wasl properties will have dozens of villas available from approx July (and possibly much earlier) as several areas have been cleared of Emirates airline families. They been extremely good property managers for the last 13 years that we've lived in one of their villas (the villa is owned by Govt of Dubai), and I would rent from them again in a heartbeat over unscrupulous private landlords! Rent is in 4 cheques, maintenance is quick and efficient etc. 3 bed in al badaa are about 170k per year which isn't bad for the location (if you can stand the horrendous traffic on Al Safa rd around City Walk!)

I find exercise really helps with the cramps. Some gentle swimming or walking if you aren't too much into exercise would suffice. At night I take Mefanamic acid, but that requires a prescription. Actually Mefanamic Acid is available in most pharmacies without a prescription. I've been using it on & off for 13 years with no prescription at all.

I have read the pprune thread, and one person on there gave a break down of costs, but something about the numbers doesn't add up - $11 AUD for 500g butter? I looked on trolley.ae and even the fancy butter wasn't that expensive. Am I missing something? I bought a packet of butter just today at carrefour (one of the cheaper supermarkets): 500g for AED30 which is exactly $11AUS.

how was it this year? Similar to last year I'd say. I went on two days and on the whole I enjoyed it but found that once again the naff retail stalls far outnumbered the restaurant outlets. Far too few benches & sun shades for the number of people that come too! It was a good atmosphere though, and it's always nice to see such a mix of people out (families, couples, groups of friends, lots of different nationalities etc). Lots of cooking demos etc too, and reasonable entertainment from the stage (but whoever had the idea to give audience members a microphone to sing needs to rethink!)

Does this happen to anyone else? Several times in the past couple of months, I've bought something at a store. They say that my card hasn't gone through and rerun it. Then, I get two sms's from the bank saying I've been charged. So essentially I've been charged twice. I ask the cashier about it and she says, no you haven't been charged twice, but I've gotten two sms's? I've called the bank and they said it automatically gets deleted if they can see I've been charged twice, but I can't see how that could happen? They might just assume I've bought another of the same sweater a few minutes later? Feeling sooo frustrated at the moment! When your credit card is used, you automatically receive an SMS, but for the charge to be valid/processed etc, the bank has to actually authorise it. So the first time your card is swiped but rejected you get the sms because the card has been used but unsuccessfully. The second time it gets swiped and accepted you get another SMS and as the CC machine was used successfully that time, the charge also gets processed/added to your account. You should always ask for the receipt for the first failed transaction though (it will usually look exactly the same as a normal receipt except it should say CARD DECLINED across the bottom) just in case they're scamming you. And check your statement every few days after that just to be sure. (I worked for a long time in a job that caused me to swipe people's cards and it happened on pretty much a daily basis that people would complain that they;d been charged twice because e.g. the connection had dropped whilst the card was being swiped or whatever).

I am being driven quitely mad here so really hoping someone can help ! I am trying to order a mother's day gift from M&S online . Mum is in the UK so obviously I want to use the UK site . Every time I try to log on it forces me back to the UAE site . I am using an iPad and have turned off location service but to no avail . Has anyone successfully managed to do this yet - I hope so ! Thanks so much in advance Isn't it so frustrating! It makes me really angry that they try to force you to use the UAE site (probably they don't want people seeing how much cheaper everything is on the UK site!!) I successfully got around this last week by using a 'vee pee en'...

Ha! Ha! I hear you............... Honestly some of the verbose claptrap you see in the market here..... And then if you actually see past that and meet the candidate, their vocabulary is nothing like the CV. a lot of CVs are painful to read..... I see that every day and please don't get me started on some of the pictures on their CV. At present the pouting selfie seems to be all the rage!!!! The best photo I've ever seen attached to a CV was a torso shot of the candidate in her bikini at the beach!! Sunglasses and everything  We didn't invite her for interview...

There was a thread about this earlier in the summer ([url=http://www.expatwoman.com/forum/topic233722-oven-cleaning.aspx'>link[/url'>) with a recommendation for a company, now that Shaun has left Dubai :( Thanks so much Rawla: I just called them (mangrove cleaning) and they have a minimum charge of AED700 which still seems very expensive. Perhaps you should try doing a pregnancy test? Breakouts, no energy, nauseous... You can buy one over the counter from any pharmacy, no questions asked. If you're not pregnant, it could just be down to the upheaval you've gone through in your life (moving countries is stressful!), plus the heat won't help, the different water & food, probably a different routine. Lack of fresh air could also be responsible, or an ear infection for example. Maybe give it a few more weeks and see how you feel once you've settled down a bit more and the weather has cooled, then find a good GP if you still don't feel right. Welcome to Dubai by the way! bye:

Afternoon all, A few years ago we had a wall-to-wall fitted carpet put into our master bedroom in our rented villa. When the men came to fit it, it suddenly became clear that the only way to secure it would be to GLUE the entire carpet to the existing tiles....I reluctantly agreed after they told me it would be very easy to remove, and decided I'd worry about it when it was time to take up the carpet. The carpet is now pretty shabby and I want to rip it up but am terrified of what sort of mess I'll find beneath. Have any of you ever ripped up a glued down carpet? Was it easy to remove the glue? And how did you do it?? I called the shop where we got the carpet from and got the telephone equivalent of a blank stare and she just kept repeating 'Ma'am? Ma'am? Yes we have carpet'...

Until the debts are paid you are at risk . I have a friend who left in similar circumstances in 2008 who's husband has been travelling through Dubai a number of times after checking it was ok to do so until the last time when he was arrested , went to court and has ended up with prison sentence and he will have to pay what is owed before he leaves Dubai ! I know this sounds cruel but I am glad he was caught and has to pay off his loans (although I am sad to hear he received a prison sentence).

We're all spectacle wearers in my house and have had good to excellent experiences with Al Jaber in Town Centre. Several of the staff have been there for many years and I've always found them very helpful. The optometrist isn't always there so call before you visit to make sure you can get the eye test done and not have a wasted journey.

I don't blame the security guards, they're just doing what they're told (and honestly if I worked as much as they do for the wage they get, I would have zero interest in using my common sense or making exceptions and getting into trouble) It's the mall management that are at fault, they are the ones not providing seating areas. And don't even get me started on the fact that they can provide seats for the smokers but not for the elderly, disabled, weary, or clean-living lot!!

Thank you ladies for your replies. We have looked at pprune and not sure if this going to be a good move....but then again where is aviation is a good move! We have lived in Dubai before and love it and are well aware of the pitfalls, but life is not always greener on the other side. Thank you again ? HI dxbrw. We have just moved earlier on this year to DXB. My hubby is on the 777 roster. So far its been ok. I think its nice as there is a mixture of long haul flights and turn arounds. Average month he has had around 11 days off at home and that does not include rest days or turn around days. With regards to other long-haul airlines in the UK I think the rosters are fine and its just a hazard with the job. as you know. I have been quite happy so far with EK. In the UK it was always just long haul and could be away for a long time. He has only had one very long trip when he was away for 5 days on a SIN-BNE-SIN. There are a couple of long trips like this but he has had 1 in 6 months. Hope this helps I see you are still wearing your Rose Tinted Spectacles Catty! And long may it continue, however I suspect it's only a matter of time until you see things as they really are (perhaps it will be around the point where your husband only gets 50% of his leave for the year, or where month after month you can't plan anything as you only get his roster 7 days before the month starts, or where month after month he works with the minimum legal days off and works the maximum legal flight hours, or where he misses Christmas/birthday/anniversaries, or where you discover there's been a detrimental change to his contract that wasn't publicised...)

My friend took her nanny of 8 years to the UK on holiday. The nanny got on a train to go to the shops and was never seen again. Well, not quite, they have station CCTV footage which showed her meeting a man and getting into his car. Clearly pre-arranged. I think that it's very common for that to happen: one friend of mine went to Sweden with her maid and the maid disappeared within 24 hours. Another friend took her maid to Paris for the summer and the maid 'fell in with a bad crowd' whilst they were there and would meet with gentlemen in hotel rooms for an hour at a time... The worst though was another friend who moved back to the UK and was able to take her maid with her permanently: the maid hung around for about a year before disappearing with much of the contents of the house, and was wanted by both immigration and the police. Apparently she is now back in dubai  ETA I think the cost is entirely justified, and am kind of surprised it's that low...

I have just made a carrot cake using the Organic Cafés olive oil and my cake taste of olive oil...I'm a useless baker, but wanted to try to make something for a change. Please share your secrets for cakes like carrot cake that has oil in the recipe. I always use canola oil, made from oil seed rape, as I always have a bottle on the go (it has a very high 'smoke point' so is good for roasting/frying etc). It's allegedly a healthy oil as far as oils go, and it's completely tasteless, unlike stinky, yucky, nasty coconut oil! (Can you tell I'm not a fan?!) It's very economical and available at all supermarkets.

Hey Rawla, I've just signed up for Shop & Ship and have ordered a few pieces of clothing from USA - wondering what happens when all of the items have arrived at the US address? Do they repack them or just send to Dubai as is? Am a bit worried as the website I ordered from is sending the items out separately - so guessing there will be 4 boxes with 4 small T shirts in!! I know through bitter experience that they will all be sent to you separately, so not only do you have to pay for each package individually, but you have to be around for the courier each time. I only made that mistake once!

We've used all three Catteries mentioned above (DKC, Posh Paws & Churchwoods) and have to say DKC wins our vote by a mile. Both of my cats came home distressed after staying at Posh Paws (on several occasions, not just once), and it does take about 40 mins to get there. The kennels & cattery are merely a money maker for the (amazing) animal rescue work the owner does. I personally found Churchwoods miserable & depressing and found the owner kind of disinterested in the cats. I think DKC is a bit more expensive than others but the staff do seem to genuinely care and take an interest in the pets staying with them.

We could ONLY find condenser dryers everywhere when we were looking recently, no-one seems to stock vent dryers anymore. We ended up buying a Siemens one from Better-Life: it has dozens of options for different fabrics, different temperatures, different timings etc, but it drives me mad because when drying large items like super-king sized duvet covers and sheets, it seems to tie everything up into one tight knot then stops the cycle as the outer layer of the 'knot' is dry, whilst the middle stays completely wet. It also produces a huge amount of heat. We had a cheap & cr*ppy old Bompani one for 10 years prior to this that did a much better job!

We have a samsung fridge and also use the water pump/bottled water thing and used to find it extremely loud. What is your pump fixed to? We originally screwed ours to the side of the cupboard but moved it after a while to the wall and the volume decreased a lot (I think because there is less vibration). I also make sure the hoses/wires are not touching the bottle as that seems to increase the volume. It is still quite loud but not remarkably so.

I have a KOBO (it's affiliated with WH Smith in the UK) and I really don't recommend it at all...the books available on the website are trashy, not particularly current and there isn't a great back catalogue. They all seem to be expensive, and the deals are mainly on books that are in a similar category to 50 shades of grey but even cheesier and even more badly written! The free classics are brilliant though, but that's the only positive as far as I'm concerned.

As Monnie said, Boric Acid is exactly what you need. The Life Pharmacies usually have it, it's only 7AED. We mix equal quantities of boric acid with honey and try to leave it near to the ant's entry point to the house. I think it is poisonous to people & animals so be careful around kids & pets.
