I bought a car from Mannai and there was no negotiation there. I even brought my Arabic speaking, thobe wearing friend with me and he was unable to charm the manager. The situation really annoyed him and he wanted me to walk away from the deal. Only I really liked the car I eventually wound up buying. :-)

I'm in Tower 1. I checked with Qatar Maid Service to see if they had anyone who could help (that's who cleans my apartment), and they said no. I'm not currently on the Networking Page, but that's an idea. Thanks.

Hi. My beloved dog walker of two years is returning to the UK at the end of the month and I'm having trouble locating someone to take her place. I have a small (6 lb.) dog (a papillon) that came with me from the States, and I'm looking for someone to walk him in the late afternoon (4:00ish), Sunday through Thursday. Does anyone have any suggestions?

I'm working with someone from Absolute Fitness and I know their trainers will go to towers and compounds. Email Jonny Parr at [email protected] and he can arrange for a consultation. They're great!

I looked at the International Chinese Body Care House at the Sheraton (http://www.cbodycare.com/home.html) because a doctor I'd seen in the UK recommended acupuncture for my back. While they were recommended by a friend of mine, I found them very difficult to deal with. I work and they kept offering me daytime appointment hours the day before they wanted me to come. I explained that I had some flexibility in my schedule, but I had to tell my boss if I was going to be out. I couldn't suddenly say I was going to be out for an afternoon, particularly when we would be talking about multiple treatments. The person I spoke to said their doctor set their schedule the day before and that was how they operated. I followed up with them twice more to see if perhaps they might be willing to give me more notice, but got nowhere, so I finally gave up. Maybe if you're at home during the day it won't be such an issue for you.

Just in case anyone else is interested, I called the Dip Club and they have a 50 minute massage available for QR250 or a 90 minute massage available for QR400. Those are non-member prices. She said they can tailor the massage to whatever you need--aromatherapy, Thai, sports massage (or deep tissue), etc. <em>edited by krasch on 16/11/2011</em>

Hi, Jonners. I haven't been to the Dip Club yet. But that sounds like a great idea. I'll check it out. Thank you! Is there any therapist in particular you like?

Hi, Chizz. If you were able to find out where dogs are walked at the Pearl, that would be great. I'm really happy to hear other dogs are about. I was a little concerned about how unique my pooch would be. High rise living shouldn't be too hard for us because he's so small (I can pick him up for elevators trips or even in the lobby if it comes to that). But I didn't know if people would think that seeing a dog was strange or even scary. However, given he's a fluffy little papillon, he's not as scary as some. :-)

I'm moving to the Pearl (Tower 1 in Porto Arabia) in December, and I was told dogs weren't a problem (mine only weighs 5 pounds, so he's easy). Does anyone know where people walk dogs? Are they allowed on the Crescent or is it more on the sidewalks between buildings that people walk them?

Talk to the folks at [url=QVC'>http://www.qatarvet.name.qa/QVC/HOME.html[/url'> and/or [url=Dogs in Doha'>http://dogsindoha.weebly.com/[/url'> and see who they recommend. I'm sure they'll know someone. I have a friend's daughter watch mine. But she's only in high school. Her family lives around the corner, so the situation works for us, but might not work for others. Good luck!

We had a business lunch at Khan Farouk and it was delish--Egyptian style moussaka, kababs, and the most wonderful falafel I've ever had. We each got an entree and then passed the plates around. We thoroughly enjoyed it.

I haven't had gel before. But I was so bummed about my last pedi not lasting at all (I'm used to getting 3-4 weeks out of a pedi in the States), that when the tech said, "This will last a long time," I said, "Sign me up." So far it's been great. The mani has been great too. That wasn't gel color, just regular nail polish. I even went bowling in it the other night, and there aren't any chips. My nails are short, though, so that may be why.

I know this is really general, but honestly it depends on where you go. I got a pedicure at Dados that cost QR165 (and the technician didn't use a top coat so the whole thing lasted 5 days--I'm really not happy with Dados right now). Then last week I got a gorgeous mani/pedi at the salon in my compound, Samrya Gardens, that cost QR170 for everything (it was a little more than a normal mani/pedi because she used gel polish on my feet and did a design). So you really need to shop (which it sounds like you're doing). Truly though, look at Samrya Gardens (next to Doha College). I was really impressed with their work.
