Carrefour sell frozen individual chicken pies they used to be 8.00dhs they shot up to 13.75!!!!! A friend wanted to buy some frozen prawns the small 250gm bag was 26.00 yet the same brand but 500gm were over 80!!!!!!!! hows that then..... Coz if you want gringo fodder you pay gringo prices! You want Gregg's pies live in Gregg's pie vicinity, why ***** and moan about 'western' food prices in a non western country - make your own?? I am entitled to moan!!! like the everyone else yes it does burn a hole in my pocket, I have plenty of Gregg's products when Im home, and actually I do make my own steak pie on occassions, just for you info..... As I said the sell them, didnt say I bought them....... edited by salsB on 11/09/2013 Crikey hiccup.... Who upset you?! Lol. Is it a craving for "gringo fodder"(whatever that is?) that's making you ever so slightly touchy??

Morning I have racked my brains and can't think of the name of the laundry..... So I will attempt at giving you directions (Most definately not my forte!!). Its Cluster E, where Park and Shop, Sucre Sale and Saba 1 Tower is. Basically if you come down the steps from Park and Shop, past the playground and up the steps again, its on the plaza level there... next to a computer supplies shop. I have used them a few times and they are good...And VERY cheap! Oh, and if i remember rightly, Its closed between 1pm and 4pm. HTH.

I wish to add some practical advice from my perspective married to a Pakistani but preface what I will say with the comment that my advise is from the NWF cultural perspective where divorce is not an option and there are several different cultural groups in Pakistan but sincerely hope that in general it may help you: As a Pakistani, you are well aware that when marrying in Pakistani culture in general, you marry not only your husband but his entire family and you are expected to be part of the greater whole and take your place in the family according to the birth order of your husband. From your posts, I gather your husband is not the first born son and therefore has no power/voice in the family. Your MiL, no matter what she is like, is the head of the household under her husband. You are required to obey her and all those above you - SiLs, BiLs etc. You have Internet access, use it constructively! Contact your brother or other family members in the UK and advise them of your intolerable situation. Perhaps he can talk to your husband and ask him to help you a little more. The discussion must be between the men, as you know, and preferably between the eldest sons of each family or between the fathers for each family. The fact that you have Internet access, a mobile phone etc is, in itself, a great step forward for you as so many women in Pakistan are not permitted any contact outside their new family including watching television, which is usually kept just for the men in their majlis. I know of many Pakistani woman who rarely have contact with their own families since their marriage. They live and work in the family compound rarely if ever, venturing outside the walls other than for a marriage party or to a hospital if a birth is proving very difficult. Of course, as you are well aware, your DD does not belong to you, not to your husband, but to the family and you would never be permitted to take her away should you decide to go back to your family. This fact you cannot change, ever ..... As several of the posters here have suggested, you need to consider your situation carefully, look deeply into your husband and learn to manipulate him. Find his "buttons" and push them, regularly so he feels you are worth standing up to his family over. If he is not the eldest son, it will be difficult for him to stand up to his family for his wife. I know I do not offer the advice for happiness and freedom that you desire, but I am presenting the truth, from the perspective that I know, as a Pakistani woman, you understand. Good Luck! Have I just read this right? Is it really 2013? Stop the world, I'm getting off.

Firstly, I agree with everything Alaingirl says.... Secondly, cats can live very happily in an apartment, so long as you take all the relevant precautions regarding balcony doors etc. But taking on a pet here is a long time commitment. Please ensure that you have thought about the long term implications, including the transportation of the cat when or if you have to leave, the vets fees and what you will do when you go on your vacations. I'm not trying to put you off..... I wouldn't be without my boy..... But you do have to think carefully about these things.... Far too many animals are left abandoned when owners leave...Or when children tire of them.... If you still feel a pet would fit into your family, then please contact Feline Friends.... DO NOT buy from a pet shop. HTH

I am brand new in Dubai and have no idea what "normal" is.... But I certainly do not need to go to a "top" salon for just a trim :-) There is one in the Marina next to Bobs fish and chips ( Opp Byblos and Marina Sail) I would not trust them to colour my hair but they have trimmed and blow dried it I cannot remember the cost but they were not "top salon prices" I pay 100 for a decent trim but she comes to my house Think the one you are thinking of is called Desire. I have used it many times and had a decent trim etc.... Refuse to pay the over inflated prices of the recommended "Western" salons over here. Just, as with everything here, be clear what you want and use hand signals if necessary... They are decent hairdressers, but the language barrier (From both you and the hairdresser!), often creates a problem. They are also good for nails... HTH

Sheraton at JBR is still probably the cheapest at AED100. Riva on The Palm is not a hotel but a beach club and is lovely. Entry is AED100, beach is nice with sunbeds aplenty, great loungers round the pool and its licsenced. Do love The Westin, but the price has increased significantly lately. If you look in Time Out, many hotel pool/beach days are listed.

AmyAus82.... It's comments like this that make my blood boil. Yes, practically every new mum suffers from some kind of "Baby Blues", as the body adjusts to changing hormone levels... Perfectly normal. BUT... Not every new mum will suffer from post natal depression, which, incidendtly, is a debilitating and potentially devastating condition. To advice the OP that it is common and more or less every new mum will feel the way she is feeling at the moment is, at best, patronising, and at worst, dangerous. OP.... I'm sorry I don't have any recommendations for you, but I'm sure someone will come along with the name of a good doctor. I wish you all the best. xx

Thanks fairwater.... You have summed it up. Its not that I can't make new friends... Sure I could. Its just that I have found my best friend in the world and no one can replace that. Shame that I found her in a transient society and I wasn't experienced enough to know the difference. But I really appreciate your input and experience..... Guess birthdays and Christmasses are going to be long distance flights and lots of tears! Thanks again for your kind words. Mean lots x

Just because you she is moving away, doesn't mean you can't ever see her again or keep in touch. There's email, skype, messaging, etc. Of course, things will take its natural course and people get busy with their new lives. So even though you say you don't want friends, you have to accept reality and get out there and be open to new friendships. No one can necessarily replace what you currently have, but that doesn't mean you have to be miserable:) Yea... I understand that. But I feel sad and miserable. Thanks anyway

Does anyone remember with whom that Maid's Action List originated? Alex's shoes have gone down in the annals of EW, the list needs accrediting :) If I remember correctly, it was a very "Contraversial!!" poster called Jumeirah Jane who dug it up from somewhere... Singapore rings a bell..... And who was consequently promptly banned as it gave rise to fairly heated "Debate"!! lol No I don't think that is correct. I seem tor remember several posters taking the mick about the list and it's a standing joke since. ;) Yes I know that... But think it was JJ who dug it up!

It is more about the loss of independence, feeling valued and having a role in the big wide world, beyond that of just being a wife and mother. I think that this, as said by Scribs, is what a lot of us find difficult, after years as independant women, part of a team... My hubby is not tight.... And neither was I a "Money Hoarder" in my previous life!.... I no longer have access to my own money. And that takes adjustment! Like buying birthday presents for him... Yes the money is there, yes I don't need permission to spend it... But, In my opinion, It takes away the element of surprise and I preferred to "save" a little out of my salary to do these things.
