Hi there, starting a company here is quite expensive from the start. I just saw this event recently and recommend you check it out. It seems for entrepreneurs like you who haven't launched yet: www.entrepreneurinaweekend.com I noticed they are having an event on Sept 22/23. Best of luck!

After being here for many years I can say that it is much cooler than it normally is during the month of August! Normally you walk outside for a few minutes and have sweat through your clothes. Today I was at the beach and it was gorgeous! A relatively cool breeze and water was slightly cool to the touch. Normally you can't even go into the water, it is like having a hot bath as you suffocate on the heavy humidity! Al Hamdulillah, hope you are all going to enjoy it!

I would also strongly recommend the ALC in the Trade Center. I have studied there and you get fast results. Because they teach you the "spoken language" first, you can go out and hear other people speaking and recognize the words, etc. Also, if you speak to them, they understand you. In a lot of the other courses here they teach you the more academic approach which is not very effective or practical.

Hi, I had one about 6 months ago with the optometrist there. I think it costed about 250 AED and she did the regular tests. It was an Indian lady, not sure of her name. I didn't think it was anything special that another optometrist couldn't do (ie: in the normal glasses shops etc.) unless you have an eye condition.

Forget about the phone conversation, I can handle that. It seems that everytime I have gone to relax at NStyle in the mall, they allow women with babies and young children inside. Several times I have gone and had babies crying inside with the mother not very considerate at all and expecting the staff to pick the baby up, etc. I notice when I complain, they are very passive saying "What can we do maam?" It's gotten to the point now that I myself have just gotten up and walked straight over to the mother and told her that we are all paying to have a relaxing time, not to hear crying babies!! So you're right, this needs to be enforced by the owners and staff but it seems that they are not very confident in handling clients who are demanding.

I would say to trust your instincts as a mother. Do you feel "light" or "heavy" when you imagine sending him to nursery? If you have a "heavy" feeling then I would say it doesn't resonate with you. You know your little one better than anyone else and can judge what they need. I know from experience, that living in Dubai away from our families makes it difficult to get a trusted outside opinion and so listening to other parents' advice and experiences can make us feel like we are doing something wrong if we go against the grain. But these parents are doing what is best for their kids and this is not necessarily what is best for yours. I hope that helps!

I've been in Dubai 10 years and studied in many language institutes here in all those years. Save yourself some time and lots of money and go to the Arabic Language Centre at the World Trade Centre. The way the teach it, you can start speaking Arabic right away! I have done 4 classes there so far (each 2 months long) and I really enjoy it!

What are the tests that they use anyways to do these assessments in schools? One of mine did something called the MAP test (online) but the British school didn't use that and wouldn't tell us what they used. Also didn't give us any results to take away with us, which I thought was ridiculous since I'd paid 500 Dhs.! Any idea?

I wouldn't advise you to call in sick on your first day. Haul yourself in and then when they see you they can decide to take pity on you but first impressions count so much and part-time jobs are hard to come by! Get well

I know what you're going through! I followed the advice of "smile and nod" and learned to compromise. I guess everyone generally has the best intentions but it also doesn't hurt to let people know where your boundaries are in a gentle way. Best of luck!

Hi there, I'm so happy you are writing about this because I have suffered with this as a result of an injury from running about 5 years back and discovered an amazing therapy that works almost immediately! Basically surgery is not generally recommended unless you are in a dire situation but the good news is that there is an excercise that you can do called "eccentric calf raises" that many studies have proven are often more effective than surgery. http://triathlon.competitor.com/2013/10/training/monday-minute-eccentric-calf-raise-2_46973 Once I learnt about them, I started doing 12 reps x3 sets about 3 times daily. This is when I had severe pain. I was amazed that I started healing right away and within 2 weeks my 4-year injury was basically gone. I still do these once daily as a rule and then before/after a run or intense exercise. The funny thing is that I had been to so many specialists here and none of them told me about this!! I guess we have to be our own doctors :) You can do some research too and see that it's highly-recommended. Good luck

Did you try Dubai London Clinic? I had to travel to India in October and they had a few of the vaccines that were not available in the travel clinics--typhoid, etc. So maybe it'd be worth to ringing them.

I went for some nutrition consultations with Bespoke as well. Although somewhat pricier than others, I would say that they really know they're approach and how to help.

Hi, I just posted something similar on another thread about my DD. We got her retested a few months after she did the IngeniousEd. intervention programme and she no longer met the criteria for dyslexia. We did the test at the same place in the UK and they didn't have to do the full tests again, just separate sections and it was much cheaper. But I still keep her enrolled once a week with IngeniousEd. just to keep her motivated and monitored because I'm not sure that they give her the right kinds of reading books at school. It seems that they just have parents monitoring the kids reading over there. With IngeniousEd. it is a short-term programme. They are specialist consultants, fully qualified. I paid 300 Dhs. for an hour session which is well worth it. And they communicate with the school at for no extra fee.

Hi again, try Francesca McGeary at IngeniousEd., she helped my DD so much. Her number is 050-323-1251. They charge about 300 Dhs a session but you'll end up paying less in the long run.

Well from what I know of my DD who was diagnosed at 8, dyslexia was just a gap in her learning and then once we got her support she absorbed everything and when we got her reassessed a year later back in the UK, she no longer had the gaps in her reading and writing to be considered a "dyslexic". So it really depends on what is causing the dyslexia. My DD did the IngeniousEd. intervention programme and made leaps and bounds in a short time. We continued with them for another 2 months in their weekly programme then that was all she needed. About 4 months later we did a full developmental and psychological assessment and she is now close to the same level as her peers this year. When your kids have problems, you really need to go to a specialist who knows what they're doing. Even her teacher at school was amazed by her progress. But we keep up with her reading everyday regardless if it's a holiday or not. We have to make sure that she keeps developing the right habits.

I would say just sit down with him and deal with the issue directly. You don't have to mention about the possible other woman/women, just deal with the facts that have already been brought up. Find out if he is still committed to making it work or not. Go from there. Wishing you all the best, I'm sure it's not easy :(

I would refuse to send my kids for those prices! I would just tell my child that we will do something else as a family because it's too expensive and then take them somewhere else. These schools need to get the message.

I've been doing the 5:2 for a few months now and seen good result. Although I've only lost about 5 kilos so far, I feel very healthy fasting and know I'm doing good things for my body. So I know that the results will all come with time and dedicated effort. I do 500 cals for my evening meal and it works best since I can't fall asleep otherwise. My advice is just stick with it and don't worry about feeling hungry, just go with the flow and drink a lot!

Sometimes what I do is call the company and ask them for a reference of someone who's used their services before--ie: a parent in this case. If they don't have anyone it would be a bad sign.
