Fab, thanks, good to know! Can I ask if you are happy with your maid? My husband seems to subscribe to the idea that all maids are lazy whereas I prefer to approach everyone with an open mind!

Hey mrs_kpt, probably not, I bought 3 singlets that would fit me before the birth and 3 singlets a size bigger for when I started breast feeding, when the milk first came through for me, the size of mine were huge but the good thing about these singlets is they stretch, like a good quality exercise top, so I used the bigger cupped sized ones for when I first started feeding DD and then I moved along to the cup size I was before giving birth when DD was about 2 months old , as my breasts seemed to go down in size a little, I am not huge up top (wish i was) and the support these gave were great, these are very popular back home in Oz :) x Thank you, very helpful. And yes they are 30% off though unfortunately limited sizes.

I opted for the Aussie Bonds tank tops with built in maternity bra, and they are super comfortable, once you are finished with them they are great exercise tops, I believe they can be bought online : http://www.bonds.com.au/maternity/maternity-support-singlet.html#80=65&142=513 Thanks, those were the exact ones that I am looking at! Was planning to buy a few online and have them sent to my mum to send over. Just wasn't sure about the sizing. I'm 35 weeks now....will I be the same size when I deliver and when I'm nursing as I am now? Thanks :)

[quote Hi mrs_kpt thanks for all the options. How much are you charged for the home visits if I joined you? Do you pay as you go or buy a set number? edited by StaceM on 10/02/2014 Hi. She charges AEd 300 per 1 hour session which will cover up to three people. We normally only have two so 150 each. More than what you would pay for a class at a studio but she comes to the house, tailors each session specifically for us, and is absolutely lovely so it's been money well spent for me thus far :) And no we just pay as we go and sort out each session around our schedules for that week. I'm 35 weeks this weekend so haven't got many more weeks to go but will be trying to get as many sessions in as I can pre birth, great for the mind as well as the body!

Hi All Thanks for all the help! More options than I thought in Dubai. Any Aussies out there that have tried the Bonds ones? I was thinking of buying some on line and having them sent over but not sure whether they are worth it or not Will check out the other options in the meantime Thanks again

Hi yes yoga would be good. It would have to be in the evenings or at weekends though. I have a lady that comes to my house and does pre natal yoga, normally saturday afternoons and / or Tuesday evenings. I've been sharing the classes with a friend but she is due this week so is dropping out and I'd love someone else to join me to share the cost. The classes are lovely and it's great to just do it at home. I'm in Jumeirah Park, if you are interested in joining me let me know :) Otherwise I can recommend the pre natal Pilates at Real Pilates in JLT, instructors there are fab. I also do pre natal yoga at Balance 360 at the Oasis Centre which I really enjoy and Zen yoga offers pre natal classes

We are currently doing the classes at Healthbay, almost finished. Its a four week course and yes all attendees are there as couples including Dads. Covers everything from pregnancy to labour to hospital issues to newborn care. Really informative and I would highly recommend it. Plus, the midwife that runs it is Australian and there are Tim Tams :)

I'm going through the same process at the moment and am told that no she doesn't but we have to pay a little extra in fees. That said we haven't actually started the process as she only started with us on the weekend so will soon find out. My maid is Sri Lankan and I'm not sure whether that makes any difference or not!

I found dealing with the British embassy staff much more enjoyable. The Aussie staff were quite rude and acted as though they were doing me a massive favour. edited by flydiver11 on 31/01/2014 Hi. Wondering whether you got both Australian and British? I'm Australian and my husband is British and we are planning on applying for both. Not sure tho whether there is any particular order that we should do it in or whether that makes any difference at all? Thanks :)

Good morning! My son and I always get up around 7am. So she should get up earlier than us to prepare breakfast like 6:30am? When do you let her to have rest time? Around 9pm? After 9pm is her own time? Thank you in advance! I think that setting the hours comes down to personal requirements and what you and your maid agree works for you. My personal view is that 6.30am till 9pm is a loooooong day, six days a week. I wouldn't want to work that myself and I wouldn't expect my maid to either. But if those are the hours that you need maybe give her a few hours rest in the middle of the day? FYI we've just hired a maid (our first) and found that a lot of people who applied for the job were looking to change from their current employer, sometimes only after 1 year, due to the long hours they were expected to work, often similar to what you have mentioned here. So worth considering if you plan to keep your maid for several years, she needs to have realistic hours. For the rest of it, it's all really up to what you want to offer and what they want to ask for in my view. Hope that helps :)

Those that give an allowance, how do you physically manage it? Where we live there is no supermarket nearby, the only way she could get there at the moment would be for me to take her. Do you give them an allowance and have them do their own shopping on their own time, or does she come with you and just pick out her own things and pay for them? We have our first maid starting this week and its all new to me!

We are doing the same and I had the same thoughts. I just asked her and she told me what she wanted! We had plenty of bedding and towels but I bought her new ones as I thought that was nicer. I've also bought her a welcome pack of toiletries from the Body Shop, no idea if she will use it or not. She is starting on Friday and Saturday I will take her food shopping to get her essentials. I've supplied her room with bed, blinds, bookshelf, some photo frames, clothes hangers and towels etc. And asked her to let me know what else she wants. For the kitchen items, her room is right next to the kitchen and I've made it clear I would much prefer she use the kitchen than cook in her room, I don't like the safety aspect of having her cook in such a small space. We are out working all day so she has plenty of time to use the kitchen without us there if she prefers that. And yes to internet access, that was the one thing that she asked for. I trust her from the start that she will do the right thing with it, hopefully those are not famous last words!!

hi All. Can anyone please help with some further information on this thread. We have found a Sri Lankan maid that we would like to hire. She is currently employed here in Dubai on a residence visa which expires at the end of this month and her sponsor would like to cancel her visa. I would then like to hire her. What I can't figure out is can she stay in the country during the process or does she have to leave and come back? She has a medical certificate that was done in November 2012 and attested etc. Does that mean we can just apply for new visa once her old visa is cancelled without her leaving the country? If anyone has information please share, it is all so confusing! Thank you :)

Hi All. Hoping for some help. After much searching have finally found three good candidates for our live in maid position, Sri Lankan, Phillipines and Zimbabwean. All seem very nice. I'm leaning towards the Sri Lankan but not sure about her sponsorship (this would be our first time sponsoring). The candidate is currently employed but there are planning to cancel her visa end this month. She thinks that we can just obtain a new visa with her in the country but I have been told that there are new rules that mean that you can only sponsor a Sri Lankan while she is in her home country. Does anyone know anything about this and could help me please? If we have to send her back home and then do sponsorship that would be a bit of a game changer due to our timing requirements! Thanks!

Anyone got any feedback on Medcare please?? I need to decide by tomorrow whether to stick with my Dr and Medcare or whether to switch to a new dr (I can go with either Dr Raj or Braithwaite at American). Big decision considering that I am 30.5 weeks and need to be closely monitored between now and the end date seeing as I have a single umbilical artery condition.

Anyone got any feedback on Medcare?? (sorry to hijack your thread OP but see you are asking about them as well). Am currently trying to decide whether to stick with Medcare as that is the only place my Dr delivers or whether to change hospitals which means changing Drs :( I've heard only bad things about Medcare and would love to hear something good! OP - we are booked into start Antenatal classes at Health Bay Polyclinic this week and also hear they are great. I've also been looking into Hypno birthing with Jasmine Collins, you may want to look her up if you are interested

So the three doulas that I have contacted today all tell me that they won't do Medcare bookings as it is such an unfriendly hospital for natural births. Seriously thinking about changing Dr's now, which is the last thing that I wanted at 30 weeks :(

Thought so when you sweetly put that you have hospital PJs - dont take them darling, they will only get ruined or not worn ;-) They are more for my husband than they are for me....personally couldn't care what I look like but he will be happy if I make an effort at least. It could all go out the window once we get in the thick of it but at least I will have something nice to wear at home post birth :)

Okay so this is going to sound a little strange but I was just visiting a friend of mine in Australia who had a similar problem with her three year old who wouldn't allow her hair to be washed. Might be a little unorthodox but she found some videos on youtube of children who had nits and showed these to her daughter. Apparently ever since, the child has been obsessed with having her hair washed and put into pony tails!! She seems to now be a little terrified of the thought of catching 'nips' from others and wants to be as clean as possible! Not making any recommendations here, just passing on something that I heard!

Yes I have bought some stuff just yesterday from Destination maternity at Dubai Mall on sale. I got some nice sleep wear for the hospital. A lot of the sale stuff of course was only the extra extra large sizes but I've found that their stuff is probably the most reasonably priced of all the shops at the Dubai Mall. I've also bought quite a bit of stuff from Gap online and had it sent over via Shop and Ship

There are some great hypnobirthing instructors in Dubai, but you'll have to start practicing soon if you're due in March. Good luck and best wishes for a healthy and safe birth! Hi - thanks for the feedback. wondering which hypnobirthing instructor you used in Dubai? I've been looking at Jasmine Collins, she seems to be the main one, wondering your feedback if you used her? Many thanks!

Thanks all. My Dr is Dr Farnaz at Family First and she does seem very pro natural, delivery at MedCare. However I have three friends that have used her and all have ended up with c sections. Obviously in the heat of the moment if I'm told that the baby is in danger and c section is required I'm not going to question it but it is nice to hear that a natural birth is possible here!
